4 DVR Main is the front end of your DVR. 5 1. Time And Date: The upper right corner of the DVR Main program shows the current date and time. 2. Backup: An icon of a video tape represents the backup program. Double-clicking on this icon will launch several operations, depending on the shade of the icon: A. Black - Currently disabled and will now open per user/password validation. B. Gray - Enabled and waiting. Double-clicking will simply bring up the interface. C. Green - Currently backing up data. Double-clicking will simply bring up the interface. D. Red - Waiting for user input (Media Is Full, Invalid Specification, Etc.) 3. FIFO Point: The lower portion of the box displays the date and time of the oldest available video on your hard disk (s). This FIFO (First In First Out) point will automatically refresh as it overwrites the oldest clip one frame at a time. 4. Screen Split: Available camera display configurations (1, 4, 6, 9, 10, and 16) are located in the right-middle portion of DVR Main. Display configurations that are not available due to the number of total cameras, or the absence of an overlay (pro series) will show a circle with a line through the middle as you hover your mouse over the split choice. NOTE: Single-Left-Click desired camera to display one split. Single-right-click anywhere on screen to return to original display from full screen. 5. Control Pad: The control pad contains buttons that provide additional function. 6. Full Screen: This button enlarges system display to full screen. 7. 6 8. Color Adjust: This button launches display adjust utility. (pro only!) 9. P/T/Z: This button opens the pan/tilt/zoom controls. 10. PTZ Controls: Any Pan/Tilt/Zoom camera configured to operate with your DVR can be controlled with these simple buttons. From top left: power on, lamp on, zoom+, zoom-, focus+, focus-, pan/tilt arrows, auto-pan (future feature). 11. Launch Pad: The launch pad contains buttons that launch the most common used dvr utilities. 12. DVR Search: this button ( magnifying glass ) will launch the search program. NOTE: SYSTEM CONTINUES TO RECORD WHILE SEARCHING CLIPS! 13. DVR Setup: This button ( tools ) will launch the setup program. NOTE: SYSTEM CONTINUES TO RECORD WHILE CONFIGURING SETTTINGS! 14. Event Search (Section 2.4): This button ( lightning bolt ) will launch the event viewer program. The event viewer will only contain viewable video links providing: 1. Event log checkbox is checked in the general portion of your settings. 2. At least one or more camera(s) is set to record an event (motion or sensor) or if any camera (s) experience video loss. Note: event viewer is designed to be a quick reference monitoring tool and can cause system video lag if misused. (Event Viewer is displayed concurrently with DVR Main and therefore shares system display allocation. 7 Search for extensive viewing as system display is diverted to search until main program is returned to the foreground of your screen (at no time does recording of video cease as a result of either search program.).) 15. Camera Bulbs: Green = Idle Red = Recording Black = Not Present Or Off PRO FEATURE: if display is showing one split (1 cam), you can drag desired bulb number with your left mouse button on top of display for picture in picture! 16. Exit: This button ( universal power symbol ) will exit the program. = RMS Connection: This icon appears when someone is remotely connected to the server (DVR). = Sensor Activity: This icon appears when a sensor is triggered. 8 DVR Search is the utility used for viewing your available video clips. Your DVR system has a FIFO (first in first out) point where the video file system (reserved hard disk space referred to as baskets) is overwritten frame by frame according to the oldest clip on the hard disk. For example, if you begin recording video on january 1 at 10:01 a.m. and on February 14 at 4:30 p.m. your baskets on the hard disk reach their capacity; the video marked 01/01/02:10:00:01 is overwritten with the video marked 02/14/02:16:30:00 and so forth. You have three extremely useful archiving options before the desired clip is overwritten: 1. A Manual / Scheduled backup routine. P AVI (audio video interleaved) save Win95/98/Me/XPP osxp Linux/UNIXP. P JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) save of individual frames. 9 1.3 DVR SEARCH USER OPERATIONS 1. Calendar: The upper right corner of the DVR Search program shows a calendar that represents video storage days. Any day appearing in red indicates that video was recorded. Simply click on a red day to pull recorded video data to the hour grid for access. 2. Hour Grid: The bottom of the DVR Search program shows a grid of colored blocks from 0-24 that represent hours in which there are recordings. Blue = motion, green = normal, yellow = sensor, white = no video (watch) NOTE: Darker colored blocks indicate hours containing audio. Click desired hour block to begin viewing video. The fist second of the hour is pulled by default and if no video was recorded on that second, a logo or perhaps black screen may appear. 3. Minute Grid: The minute bar is located just above the hour grid. A single line of colored blocks from 0-60 represent minute increments in your recordings. Blue = Motion, Green = Normal, Yellow = Sensor, White = No Video (Watch) 4. Image Display: once you have clicked on the desired box in the minute grid, the first available frame from the selected minute will be automatically displayed. Playback Controls: The controls used to playback your video are very similar to a VCR/DVD player or multimedia player such as windows media player and Winamp. = Play = Play Backwards (Feature Not Available To Video Using H.263 Compression.) = Next Frame = Last Frame = Previous Frame (Feature Not Available To Video Using H.263 Compression.) = First Frame = Stop 6. 12 10. Speed* Controls playback speed as well as audio mute. 11. Save/Avi - Converts clips to either JPEG Image Or AVI Video. 12. Saving (Jpeg) Images: A. 13 C. Under save method select still image (jpeg): D: Now you have the option of choosing where you would like to save your images. You can choose your Floppy Drive (JPEG Only), Hard Drive ( HDD ), or Most Commonly the CD-R (W) Drive ( CDROM ). E: After you have chosen the location where you want to save the file you can then either accept the default name of the file such as shown below. Example of default file name: (2002 Year 11 Month 26 Day 13 Hr 21 Min 30 Sec.) Or you can rename the file into something more fitting to the incident. Make sure the directory set box is checked. See example picture above: F: Once you are satisfied with the name and location of your JPEG Image Or AVI Video, Simply Left-Click On The OK Button. (Left-Click Cancel to exit without saving.) 14 G: Now you can view the saved image by double-left-clicking on my computer ( tools menu on your format utility or top left corner of your desktop), then double-left-clicking on the appropriate drive, and finally doubleleft-clicking on the saved file. 13. Saving AVI Recordings: A. From the search program click on the button labeled save. A. This will open the save mode dialog box. 16 As your video plays, the status will change on dialog box shown above (G:). The rapidly changing number represents the running file size of your AVI save. The second unchanging number represents the total number of bytes available on the media you have designated (Floppy, HDD, CDROM). When you reach the point in the video where you would like to stop, simply push the stop button. = Stop You should receive this message: The file has been recorded and saved in the location you selected. I: Now you can view the saved image by double-left-clicking on My Computer ( Tools menu on your Format Utility or top left corner of your desktop), then double-left-clicking on the appropriate drive, and finally doubleleft-clicking on the saved file. *NOTE: ONCE YOU HAVE RECORDED THE AVI FILE TO A CD IT CAN BE PLAYED IN ANY COMPUTER THAT HAS WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 6.1 OR LATER.* 14. Print Prints the current displayed image. * User Control should be selected for optimal audio sync in search if the camera has been allocated less than 25 frames per second. Any camera given 25 or more frames can utilize the normal setting in your speed control. 17 15. Tool Set 2: These controls offer additional modifications to your video clips. Clockwise from top left: 1. Sharp Sharpen images incrementally. 2. Blur Blur images incrementally. 3. B/W Convert color image to black and white image. 4. Cancel Undo the most current change. 5. Zoom* Magnify selections within clip. 6. Original Return clip to original state. *To Zoom (Magnify) a video clip, hold down your left mouse button and drag (draw) a rectangle over the portion of the video clip you want enlarged. When you are satisfied with the dimensions of the rectangle, simply release your left mouse button to initialize the digital zoom. 16. Video Mode/Size: Just below the date and time you will find information regarding your video record mode, compression, and file size. This information is provided frame by frame. Ex. (Above Picture): Record Mode = Normal Compression = H.263 Frame Size = 0.10KB NOTE: If audio accompanies the video, the mode and compression will temporarily read sound. 17. 18 A. Launching Motion Search: You can open Motion Search from your tool set panel located on the right hand side of your Search program by left-clicking on the button marked Motion. B. Selecting an Area: You can search for changed pixels (motion) by the whole image frame or by a selected area. This is available to video recorded in both jpeg and H.263 compression. If Partial Area is selected you can draw a box around an object or portion of the image frame the same way as in your motion & display settings (section 1.8). C. Bookmark: Once you have selected Whole Area or defined a Partial Area you can bookmark that frame for quick and easy future reference by: 1. Left-Clicking the Add book mark button; 2. Right-Clicking image and left-clicking Add book mark. 19 If you click ok to confirm the bookmark save you will receive the following: D. Motion Search Options: 1. Auto Search: While the Motion Search box is still visible on your screen you can hit the Forward Play button to Auto Insert any frames detecting changed pixels in your selection without any user input. The minor setback with this option is the speed of your playback. Motion Search is designed to run incredibly fast, therefore, every detection instance is not guaranteed to be marked on your list. For a comprehensive search you should use the Manual Search. 2. Manual Search: While the Motion Search box is still visible on your screen you can hit the Next Frame button to Manually Insert any frames detecting changed pixels in your selection. The search will move forward at lightning speed and automatically stop at the next detection. You will then have the option to manually add the image to the bookmark list if you wish. 20 A few important reminders concerning DVR Search : Speed adjustments are very useful for frame/rate compensation in playback. Remember to stop playback before accessing a new hour/minute box. Sound is automatically detected. You do not need to click the sound button. Darker shaded boxes indicate audio has been recorded. (After first full hour.) Quick Search limited to video using JPEG compression. Backwards play and previous frame not available in H.263 recordings. 21 DVR Setup is the utility used for configuring and applying changes per the way that you want your DVR to behave. Only a qualified user should access and change your DVR settings. WARNING: MISCONFIGURING YOUR DVR CAN CAUSE THE SYSTEM TO CEASE FUNCTIONING! Ex. All cameras are set to notify remote site with no I.P Address/Phone # assigned; audio is assigned to Mic 1 when no Audio Expansion is present; Partial Area Motion is selected with no defined areas to detect; etc. The Setup program has a multitude of features to enhance the performance of your DVR ranging from screen split (number of camera views displayed at the same time) to detecting motion - then trigger alarm outputs - while automatically launching remote software at specified monitoring site - accompanied with an notification containing an attached JPEG image of the very motion that triggered the event! The most important step in configuring your DVR settings is determining exactly what is required of the specific siteoriented application. For instance, a warehouse that simply needs monitored in case of theft will require very little input and attention. A site in need of quality audio sync, heavy backup traffic, and constant remote notification to multiple I.P. (Internet Protocol) addresses around the world will require much input and regulated attention. This is not to say that it cannot be done. All features are compatible with each other, however, some common sense, a good deal of DVR knowledge, and lots of patience will inevitably be the deciding factors of your system s performance. 22 1.5 DVR SETUP USER OPERATIONS: GENERAL 1. Interval and Initialization A. Composite Monitor Display Interval: This pertains to the number of seconds the system will pause between the cycling camera outputs from the composite out (RCA Male Labeled 17 On Your Camera Bridal.) B. Pantilt Control Seeing Composite Monitor: If checked, opening the PTZ control panel will freeze the composite display on the assigned PTZ camera. This is extremely helpful for using the composite out as an aiming monitor for fluid, real-time PTZ Movement. NOTE: Even if you are not using a ptz camera, you can still utilize this feature. C. Initial Screen Split: This is the default screen split for the DVR display. Every time the software is launched or initialized, it will return to this setting. D. Full Screen: Software will default to full screen (Camera Views With No GUI) upon launch or initialization. E. Change color on Recording: When enabled, camera name and mode overlay will repeatedly flash red when motion or sensor activity is detected. 2. 23 A. Event Log: This must be enabled to log all motion and video loss data to be accessible in your Event Viewer. 3. System Controls A. Shutdown Time: Enabling this will force the system to completely turn off at the designated hour and minute. NOTE: This should only be enabled if someone is designated to turn the system back on. B. Disable: This disables inherent Windows keys or combinations (CTRL+ALT+DEL, ALT+F4, Windows Key, CTRL+ESC, etc.) to increase the security of your DVR. NOTE: after enabling, please shut down the DVR software. The system will shut down. Simply turn the system back on to initialize the added security. C. Watchdog: The Watchdog is a hardware feature that will send a pulse to the reset trigger on your motherboard. If for any reason your system should encounter a fatal software situation (Lock-Up, Non-Response, etc.) your capture card will wait for the selected interval time, then reboot the system. This clears all errors and system problems and resumes recording in a matter of seconds. D. Restart Time: (Recommended) Enabling this will force the system to reboot at the designated hour and minute. This is important for the overall stability of your DVR. 4. Site Location : Stores name to identify specified site. 5. Program Version Information Clicking this button will display the specific version numbers for every program installed with your DVR system. 25 1. Select Camera Cameras can be selected one at a time by left clicking on the desired camera number in the upper left corner of the screen. When selected, the respective camera button will indent and be ready for configuration. The Apply same value to all camera button will copy common settings ( Use, Compression, Schedule, Resolution, etc.) from the selected camera to all cameras available to the system. 2. 26 A. Use: This checkbox enables the camera to be accessible to the DVR system. B. Hide View On PC Monitor: Without affecting any settings, the specified camera(s) will not be displayed on the main screen. Cameras with sensitive imagery are now disguised and ambiguous to a user-level operator. NOTE: This is not carried over to remote connection. Camera will be visible to anyone that has been given remote access. C. Remove from external monitor rotation: Per camera, you can block images from being transmitted to the composite (CCTV) monitor. D. Beep and show one Split on Event: You can specify any camera that detects motion or sensor activity to automatically be displayed in a single one split. 3. Pan/Tilt A. Use: This tells the system that a Pan/Tilt/Zoom camera is assigned to the associated camera number. B. Receiver: Click the dropdown list to identify the PTZ vendor that matches your camera. If the company name is not listed the camera is currently not supported. New PTZ cameras are added on a regular basis. 27 C. Speed: This refers to the COM port speed specified for the camera s protocol. Check manufacturer tech sheet for appropriate setting. D. Port: COM port used for RS-422/485 input. E. Parity: Parity Setting. See Manufacturer Data. F. Data Bits: Number Of Data Bits. (Manufacturer) G. Stop Bits: Number Of Stop Bits. (Manufacturer) WARNING: THE FOLLOWING CAMERA SETTINGS SHOULD BE ADMINISTERED BY AN EXPERIENCED USER. IMPROPER CONFIGURATION OF THESE SETTINGS CAN CAUSE MANY PROBLEMS AND POTENTIALLY CAUSE PERNAMENT DAMAGE TO YOUR DVR SYSTEM!!! 4. Size & Quality Adjustment A. Compression: 1. JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) = Stores each frame of a moving picture sequence in JPEG compression, then decompresses and displays each frame at rapid speed to show the moving picture. NOTE: JPEG (MJPEG) produces a higher quality picture with extremely large file sizes. 2. H.263 (ITU Standard) = Records images only when the video s pixels are changed. This is true even if the camera is set to record 24/7. A benchmark or reference image is documented and compared frame by frame, therefore anytime that there is no change in the video; the reference frame sits idle, relieving the system of stress caused by constant video encoding. 28 B. Resolution: x 240 = Default image resolution for DVR recordings. This resolution is referred to as 1X in your search program. 320 x 240 will provide the smallest file size of the three available resolutions as well as the smallest viewing area x 240 = This resolution is provided for users who want a larger viewing area for their video but do not want files that will quickly fill the file system x 480 = Resolution for largest and highest quality video. This resolution is commonly applied to high risk or evidentiary camera views. C. Quality: This slider bar simply marks the measurement of quality assigned to a camera. Lower quality = lower file size and image quality. Higher quality = higher file size and image quality. HINT: Once the slider bar has been accessed you can use your left/right arrow keys on your keyboard to pinpoint the desired number (this applies to all slider bars). 5. Embedding Character In Recorded Image A. Use: This box must be checked to include camera name, and/or date and time stamp on your recorded video. B. Position: This dropdown list configures the stamp(s) to be located in the left/right, top/bottom of the image frame. C. Contents: Check the corresponding boxes to include one or both image stamps. 6. Adjust Camera Frame Rate A. Maximum Averaged Frame Rate: This default selection allocates the average shared frame rate according to how many cameras are enabled and active. Select Frame Rate By Camera: While being mindful of the system s total available FPS, you can set the frame rate per individual camera (30/Sec. Max). This is extremely useful for prioritizing cameras. Built-in validation safeguards against mathematical errors and inconsistencies, however, it is strongly recommended that you error check your math to help assure system efficiency. Note: Cameras recording audio should be set above 20 Frames/Sec. (25 Recommended) If Audio/Video Link Is Desired Result. 7. Sound A. Use: This box must be checked to enable sound recording (per camera). B. MIC/CARD: This dropdown list contains potential audio hardware to record sound along with your video. There are several variables that decide your audio record options: 1. Expansion Card: The MIC options refer to an optional Expansion Card(s) accessory that is purchased separately. 2. Frame Rate: For every 30 frames your DVR is capable of rendering, A MIC becomes available for use. Ex. 30FPS=1, 60FPS=2, 120=4, 240=8 3. Sound Card: Currently all DVR systems come standard with internal sound card. This CARD option refers to the internal sound card. Customers relying on quality sound recordings are urged to purchase the expansion card(s) and only use the internal sound card for remote 2-way audio feature (In/Out/Duplex). IMPORTANT: SOUND RECORDINGS ARE 100% DEPENDENT ON VIDEO RECORDINGS! Sound recording should be approached as a feature of your Digital Video Recorder designed to enhance your security needs. If you are experiencing difficulties or simply wish to tweak your audio performance, the following tips may be of assistance: FRAME RATE: As mentioned above, audio is 100% dependent on video. A motion picture playing at your local theater displays at 24 (Twenty-Four) FPS (frames per second) which roughly translates into 30fps per DVR encoding standards (extra frames for concurrent display/record capabilities). If you have purchased a 120FPS DVR and have 16 cameras set for Maximum Averaged Frame Rate, your video is being recorded at 7.5 FPS. Fortunately, your DVR records audio at or around 24 FPS regardless of video frame rate. Unfortunately, this presents a 17 frame discrepancy in linking your audio to video. Although the User Control speed setting in the Search program offers the capability of adjusting video playback to better match your audio, you will rarely link the two satisfactorily. Tip: Assuming you have adequate frame rate capabilities, try to set any camera recording audio to 20 fps or higher (25 Recommended). This greatly increases the possibilities of an audio/video link. VIDEO RECORDING: Once again, restricted by video, audio will only be recorded when video is recorded. If the desired camera is set to record motion and there is no activity within the frame, your video, as well as the audio will not be recorded. Ex. If two people enter the camera view, say good morning while shaking hands, then stand completely still while finishing their conversation; your recording will show the handshake while playing back the audible good morning. The next thing you will see or hear would be after the conversation had expired. Tips: 1. If drive space conservation is desired, try increasing the Rate Of Motion and Sensitivity (lesser number ex. 10% changed to 5%) in the Motion And Display screen. 2. Set associated camera to Normal record (you can lower resolution and quality to conserve space). 3. Set the camera to Normal And Event record. Not only will the camera constantly record audio with the video, when motion is detected within the frame, the camera is given immediate priority and All FPS configurations are usurped to give the camera 30fps until the motion is ceased. HARDWARE: The better the microphone, the better the audio! (Rd. =Lou roué, Sony) 8. Pre Post Recording * A. Pre: The Pre dropdown list refers to the number of frames you wish to add before motion or sensor activity triggered your recording. If the Pre is set to 1 (one) or higher, the system will virtually record that camera as Normal. When it detects that the pre assigned number of frames have expired, the system will dump theses frames from the system memory. The default Pre setting is 0 (zero) and should only be adjusted a system recording 60FPS and higher by A DVR expert (ex. 120FPS DVR with all 16 cameras set to Pre record 10 frames, would put an undue amount of stress on the system and potentially cause the system to cease recording. B. Post: The Post dropdown list refers to the number of frames you wish to tag onto the end of your event activated recordings. When Post is set to one (1) or higher, the system will simply delay the shutoff point when an event ends to add the desired number of frames. The default setting is 1 (one), however, the system is capable of adding up to 500 frames. This is not as detrimental to the system as adding multiple frames to the beginning of recordings, however, should be utilized in moderation to achieve optimal system performance. *Pre/Post settings are ignored when using Normal and Normal And Event schedules. C: Sensitivity Adjustment: Use the slider bar to adjust sensitivity, the lower the percentage such as 10% the more the system will pick up on motion. JPEG: Selecting JPEG compression for the remote transferring of your video will provide the highest quality picture for viewing. This method will also cause the highest network traffic and slowest frame rate. B. H.263: (Recommended) Selecting H.263 compression for remote video transfer will slightly decrease your image quality, however, will allow for a higher frame rate with a dramatic decrease in overall bandwidth usage. *Keep in mind that a single frame using JPEG can be as large as 80KB. That means a 120FPS system has the potential to render 10mb/sec of data. A user with an ISDN internet connection would have to wait an average of 2.5 minutes to pull just one second of video (one camera, recorded at 30fps) in their Remote Search. A single frame using h.263 can be as small as 1kb, meaning that in the same 2.5 minutes the user could pull 80 seconds of video compared to only one. 3. 36 A. Use: When checked, the system is prepared to contact the remote sites of your choice according to the parameters set on this screen. B. TEL. NO / IP: According to the choice made in the dropdown list directly below the Use box (TCP/IP, MODEM); either the TEL. NO or IP field will be enabled and waiting for your input. Telephone numbers should contain no spaces or parentheses and I.P. address should be entered one set at a time per the separators already provided (ex. xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx). The numbers refer to the REMOTE destination and not your DVR. C. Cameras: Cameras are set individually by single-left-clicking the appropriate camera number. Different cameras, as well as different schedules can contact multiple different sites. *RMS Software package includes a program titled: Event Cap. Simply select the hour(s) of the day(s) you wish for motion or sensor activity per camera to contact the specified remote machine(s). 37 1. Select Sensor: Click on the sensor you wish to define or change. 2. Options: A. Use: This turns on the following functions for the selected sensor Location Sensor Enter the name of the sensor. It is a unique ID applied to a specific Sensor that has been selected. B. Sensor Type: 0-Low Keeps the circuit in a Normally Open state 1-High Keeps the circuit in a Normally Closed state C. Connected Camera: This option allows you to dedicate a camera to a sensor. If the sensor is triggered, the camera you assign to that sensor, will start to record if the camera is on a sensor involved schedule. 3. Sensor Value: A. Check Interval: Tells the system how often to check the sensor for an alarm. Value is indicated in milliseconds and the default is 100. B. Output Port: When an alarm comes in, there is an option to send it to multiple outputs. This option is great if you have other external alarms that need to be signaled when a sensor is triggered. C. Modifying A User: A. Update: Left-click on the desired user to modify system settings. Once the user is highlighted in blue you can adjust any settings other than the account (user) name. 39 DVR Backup is the utility used for permanently archiving video. This utility will also backup audio where it applies. These backup routines are compressed for size optimization and can be viewed and listened to on any windows based pc. WARNING: MISUSE OF THE BACKUP PROGRAM CAN SEVERELY DAMAGE YOUR FILE SYSTEM! The backup program consists of two equally effective methods: manual and scheduled. Unless you are required to document months of video at one time, it is highly recommended that you use The Manual backup. This method is designed for incident oriented archiving and offers the widest range of media compatibility as well as cost-effectiveness. For example, in most cases an entire robbery would fit on one cd-r (w) disc at an average cost of $.65. This particular media is extremely mobile and 100% compatible with any windows98se/me/2000/xp computer on the planet with a cd-rom drive. If you require comprehensive video archiving the schedule backup would be more appropriate. The Schedule backup runs: daily (specified hour); hourly (specified minute) or per Size increment (Every KB). An Auto Start Point feature guarantees that your backup will never waste time and resources on the same video clips, and the schedule backup runs hands-free. Hesitation to implement the schedule backup is due to heavy drain on system resources (backup and main running at the same time) combined with the excess cost and limited accessibility of large media solutions (Removable Hard Drives, DVD-RAM, File Server, etc.). WARNING: MANUAL BACKUP SHOULD BE USED AFTER CLOSING DVR MAIN PROGRAM! Unlike The Schedule backup, Manual backup does not automatically validate the Auto Start Point ; FIFO point ; or current clip status. This is designed intentionally to guarantee that you preserve your video regardless of built-in validation, however, is potentially dangerous to the file system if new video clips are being added to the file system concurrently. You can select the entire date (check the box directly left of the date), camera number for that date (check the box directly left of the camera), hour per camera for that date (check the box directly left of the hour), or single minutes per date, camera, hour (check the box directly left of the minute). Selections set to backup are denoted by a White box with a Red checkmark. A Gray box with a Red checkmark denotes the associated day/hour of the selection that will not be backed up. B. Answer Yes to Proceed. 2. Scheduled Backup: Left-Click On Scheduled Backup Tab A. Adding A Schedule: Left-Click the Add button located in the lower right portion of the screen. Check the box next to any specific camera(s) you would like to backup on a regular basis. You can Select All or Clear All, or you can just leave all cameras checked by default (it is harmless to have cameras checked that are not present on the system.). Click Next to continue. C. 43 1. Hour: This is considered the Daily Backup. It is the only backup schedule that runs on an actual schedule rather than concurrently. The hour and minute selected will be the time that the backup initializes and begins where it left off (whole new day). Although extremely reliable, the daily backup is not the best archiving method for an extremely active dvr. Lag times resulting from applications fighting over CPU priority can cause backup schedules to run into each other depending on the file sizes, therefore never giving The DVR a chance to breathe. Steady archiving on an active DVR is best realized with the next option. 2. Minute: The Minute backup is the most efficient of the schedules and a great combination of reliability and functionality. The number (15 shown above) denotes how many minutes elapse until the next backup routine. A Minute schedule set to 5 minutes would fire off every five minutes starting at first initialization. Common sense would suggest that this would cause the most stress on the system rather than the least stress. However, considering that the Backup files are compressed.dat files, it only takes a matter of seconds to catch up with 15 minutes of new data using a smaller work load. This is opposed to the Daily backup which is 24 hours of new video and a very large work load. 3. Size: This Option Is For DVR Experts Only. 44 DVR Backup Viewer is the utility used for viewing archiving video. This utility can be automatically copied to a backup routine as an installation file to be installed on any PC running Win98SE/ME/2000/XP. Although some key features offered in the DVR Search program are unavailable (AVI Save, Photo Tools, etc.) Many useful assets still remain. Audio is backed up when applicable, and the speed and mute controls retain full functionality. Identical to the feature in Search, a single frame JPEG image can be saved to the hard disk or printed with the click of a button. The Watermark is also carried over into the backup viewer allowing for authentication and complete validation of all archived images. There is an additional feature called Origin Image which displays the image in the resolution it was originally recorded. A 320x240 image would appear exactly the same size as the default box in the viewer. If the image was recorded at 640x480 the image would appear in the appropriate sized image box. The JPEG image save works the same way. 1. Viewing A Backup: A. The Image Tool conveniently supports saved JPEG Images from both DVR Search and DVR Backup, guaranteeing that your clip, whether current or archived, will always carry validation. 1. Open Image: At the Image Tool Screen Click on the Button Labeled Open. A. The next screen you will see is an open file box. Choose the file that you want to view and verify. In the example below you will see we have selected TEST as are example file. B. The image will appear in the image tool screen. 50 The Event Search is designed for quickly reviewing an event without having to leave the monitoring interface of your DVR. The Event Search will only pull the most recent event data available, and only records this data when Event Log is checked in your General settings (section 1.6). This is not designed for comprehensive searching and does cause minor stress to the system, however, this is not significant in small doses. To view an event simply left-click on the row desired.
