1 Name Period Broad Leaf Collection and Identification Project Due: October 17, points Materials: Observation record sheet and pen to record s Leaves collected from 1-1 different broad leaf trees collected, pressed, and dried (you are collecting and drying more leaves than you need to ensure you can identify at least to 1 leaves) Old phone books, magazines, books or other leaf press Paper towels, napkins, or old newspapers in which to press leaves White card stock or construction paper to mount leaves on (it is easiest if you select a card stock that will feed through your home printer) White liquid glue (any brand) Computer, printer, and access to Internet Labels (optional) - you will need to affix labels on to your mounted leaf pages if you cannot print the on card stock in your home printer. Please note, these labels may be a sticker type mailing label or you can create your own from paper and glue them on. A binder to put the leaf sheets in Procedure: 1. Collect a minimum of 1 to1 different broad leaves Record s on field provided. Please record your s in pen It is helpful if you have a friend with you Place the collected leaves between paper in a book to begin pressing in the field prior to transporting them home Number the leaves to match with your entry on your field, so you can identify which s go with which leaf 2. 2 . Record your identification on your field and the source you used to identify the leaf. Mount each leaf onto card stock by slightly thinning glue with water and painting a thin layer of glue all over back of the leaf 7. Wipe away excess glue and allow glue to dry. (If the paper begins to bend due to excessively wet glue, press paper with a book. 8. Bind leaf collection exhibit in a notebook - include the following: A typed cover sheet- including a title, your name, class, period, date, and an interesting background/artwork A typed table of contents with page number referenced sheet (this will be your handwritten field s ) -1 leaf exhibits ( mandatory plus 2 points extra credit for up to additional leaves) A typed works referenced sheet (see sample of how to create a works referenced page) Be sure to number all pages except the cover sheet Include scoring rubric as last page of project (this page does not need to be numbered or listed on the table of contents)
