4 Vocabulary - The Tell-Tale Heart 2 minutes per poster Directions: With your group, walk to each poster and read the example sentence. Discuss what you think the word means. Write your group s inference for the meaning and part of speech on the poster. Write the word on your notes page. 1. Cunningly 2. Resolved 3. Stealthily 4. Vex 5. Audacity 6. Derision For the meaning: look at the whole sentence and use context clues. For the part of speech: look at how the word is used in the sentence and its relation to other words.

6 Proper Title Punctuation 1. The novel The Outsiders is my favorite book to teach to middle school students. The titles of books are in italics or underlined. 2. Poe s short story The Tell-Tale Heart is my favorite creepy tale. The titles of short stories are in quotations. 3. I absolutely love the song Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.The titles of songs are in quotations. 4. Did you ever watch the movie The Goonies? It s a classic in my opinion. The titles of movies are in italics or underlined. 5. When I was in eighth grade, one of my go-to TV shows was Family Matters; I remember the episode Polkapalooza as being a particularly funny one. The titles of tv shows are in italics or underlined; the titles of episodes are in quotes. 6. Poem titles like Nothing Gold Can Stay are placed in quotations; however, Beowulf is in italics because it is the length of a book.the titles of most poems are in quotations; if the poem is as long as a book, it is in italics or underlined.

16 Friday, October 20, 2017 How should the criminally insane be treated once it s proven they committed a crime? Write a thorough, well-developed response of at least five sentences. Write in complete sentences. Before you write, consider these thoughts: JOURNAL Is the person considered criminal or insane? Or both? Should a mentally unstable person be imprisoned or treated in a hospital? What is the moral thing to do? What is the just thing to do?

Thursday- Patriots Against Drugs (Everybody wear your Patriot gear!) Friday- REDOUT (Wear as much red as you can!) *Competition is by 1st period! Ms. Hass will provide a prize for the class with the most participation throughout the week! **DOOR DECORATING CONTEST: Best decorated + stayed true to theme: Your future is key, so stay drug-free! By 3rd period class Tuesday 10/24: Go to 3rd 8am instead of 1st. Dress nicely for the play.

20 Vocabulary 30 minutes For each vocabulary word, either 1. Draw a detailed scene in which a person is demonstrating the word. 2. Write a detailed paragraph in which a person is demonstrating the word. Even though she missed home, she felt lucky to be surrounded by the stars and planets.

21 The Tell-Tale Heart One-Pager Turn your notebook paper one-pager into a creative one-pager. Transfer all of the information from the notebook paper onto copy paper in a sort of creative collage. Do not just make a list. That s BORING! Add at least two illustrations to the paper to represent the story. Use colors. Add more to the required information! Write your name on the back.
