1 November 2016 For those of you who have stopped by Pacifica Senior Living at Modesto, we have three words for you: Pardon our dust! We are on the brink of completing major renovations both in and outside the building. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused, but we assure you it is almost over! Our residents homes will be looking even better than before! On another note, the holiday season is around the corner, and I would just like to remind you that our staff is not allowed to receive any personal gifts. If you d like to contribute to the holiday staff party please be sure to speak to myself or another manager. 3 Answer to WHO AM I On the front cover we have our wonderful resident Betty Filippini getting pampered. Betty Filippini was born in 1930 in Texas. She was a book keeper for 10 years, married to Victor Filippini, and had 3 children together. Betty loves painting, gardening, western music, and socializing. We are so glad Betty is part of our Pacifica family.

4 Cook s Corner Stuffing Ingredients 1 (1 pound) loaf sliced white board 3/4 cup butter or margarine November Resident Birthdays Jean Gregg 11/6 Dian Risch 11/12 Betty Weaver 11/23 1 onion chopped 4 stalks celery, chopped 2 teaspoons poultry seasoning Salt and pepper to taste 1 cup chicken broth Directions 1. Let bread slices air dry for 1 to 2 hours, then cut into cubes. 2. In a Dutch oven, melt the butter or margarine over medium heat. Cook onion and celery until soft. Season with poultry seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir in bread cubes until evenly coated. Moisten with chicken broth; mix well. 3. Chill, and use as a stuffing for turkey, or bake in a buttered casserole dish at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 to 40 minutes. A Moment with Marcy Due to the renovations happening in our facility, we have cancelled this years Chili Cook off. We apologize and have plans on bringing it back in the Spring of But do keep an eye out for the date of our Christmas tree lighting ceremony that will be coming up in the next few weeks. If you have any new activity ideas that your loved one might enjoy, please don t hesitate on letting me know so we can all enjoy a new activity! Jackie Hernandez Activity Director Welcome to the holiday season! While this season is meant to bring feelings of love and cheer, it s also the harbinger of holiday stress for many. The great thing about holiday season is that it is predicable. Set your priorities before you get overwhelmed by too many activities. It is important to decide what traditions offer the most positive impact and eliminate superfluous activities. The most important thing to remember is to have a good laugh. Laughter connects with people and social support makes tough times easy to manage. Try to enjoy the wonderful memories this holiday season will bring. Happy Distressing!! Happy Holidays!! 5 Reshmika This holiday season eat mindful, not mindless. It s holidays and for most of us that means eating lots of eating. Followed by weight gain and new years resolutions. But why not take a healthier approach to what we eat during this holiday season and beyond? I was reading an article online that state 18% of people say its hard for them to eat healthier because they want to stop eating their favorite foods. The good news is you don t have to! You can still enjoy your favorite foods but in moderation. Mindless eating is consuming food because its there. Simply put, its not paying attention to what we eat which can lead to eight gain. Try controlling portions during the holiday. You don t have deprive yourself just eat smaller portions and less often. Eat when you are hungry. Just because the clock says noon doesn't mean you have to eat right then. Plan and prepare healthy snacks through out the day. A little planning helps you heart and your budget. Slow down when you eat and enjoy every bite. Put your fork down after every bite, allowing your body enough time to trigger your brain that you re satisfied. Eating healthier is easier when you think!
