2 19th January MUSIC: BRENDAN POWER AND TIM EDEY Tim Edey, voted BBC Best Musician at The BBC Folk Awards 2012 is joined by the UK-based Kiwi harmonica player and composer Brendan Power acknowledged by many as one of the most versatile and creative mouth harp players in the world today. Tickets from: 10 24th January FILM: I, DOLOURS (2018) DIR MAURICE SWEENEY + Q+A I, Dolours is a documentary revealing the complex portrait of Dolours Price; militant IRA activist, hunger striker and vocal opponent of the peace process who Every Friday FREE WEEKLY TRADITIONAL MUSIC SESSIONS Our popular weekly sessions are the perfect way to introduce the weekend. Enjoy two years before she died gave a filmed interview on condition that it would not be broadcast in her lifetime. Including reconstructions of key events, I,Dolours presents one woman s story of life and death in the IRA. Director Maurice Sweeney will join us for a Q+A after the screening. Bar: 6.30pm; Starts: 7.30pm 25th January MUSIC: THE LOST BROTHERS RTE Radio 1 Folk Awards 2018 Album of the Year Nominee and Irish Times Best of Oisin Leech and Mark McCausland are two musicians who understand the meaning of the word harmony in both their music and friendship. It is a harmony that suspends all disbelief. Since forming the Lost Brothers in 2007, they have only gone from strength to strength with their new album winning their highest accolades so far. There is no telling where these two will go next! The Lost Brothers sound like the ghost of Hank Williams whispering a secret to the Everly Brothers. The Irish Time, Tickets: From 10 26th January MUSIC: COMPÁNACH Compánach is a performance of Irish music, song and dance which uses a backdrop of photographic images in a narrative which links place, cultural life and music in the history of Ireland. Based on the encyclopedia Companion to Irish Traditional Music, and featuring music from each of the 32 counties of Ireland, the Compánach show is a fabulous night of immersion in the music, people and landscape of Ireland. 02 a glass of wine or beer from the Bar: while listening to some traditional Irish music. A group of musicians lead the session and welcome musicians to come along to join in with an instrument or sing a song. Tickets from: 12. 3 31st January - 3rd February ST BRIGID S DAY CELEBRATIONS The 1st February, St. Brigid s Day, is fast becoming a major annual date in the Irish calendar along with St. Patrick s Day. Across the world on this weekend, women s creativity is being celebrated in honour of St. Brigid. In London, events are taking place to celebrate the pioneering and creative role of women in various aspects of life including fine art, literature, business, politics, theatre, music and sport. As part of these celebrations, the ICC is presenting three female-led events focused on art, politics and entertainment. 31st January ART: OLD VOICES, NEW PERCEPTIONS- ART EXHIBITION LAUNCH This exhibition showcases six female artists from Ireland: painters Margaret Egan, Hetty Lawlor, Julie Cusack, Deidre Walsh and sculptors Orla de Brí and Ana Duncan. They will be joined by artists from the community local to the ICC in Hammersmith in a special exhibition to mark St. Brigid s Day. Launch: 6.30pm 31st January (entry strictly by free ticket only, limited availability). Fri 1st Feb Sun 3rd Feb 10am-5pm 4th Feb -31st March 9.30am 5.pm Mon-Fri. Free Entry 1st February: TROUBLES, TRAGEDY AND TRAUMA: WOMEN IN NORTHERN IRELAND POLITICS Conference chaired by former President of Ireland, Mary McAleese 03. For most of its existence, politics in Northern Ireland was almost exclusively male dominated. However, since the Good Friday Agreement there has been a substantial increase in the number and influence of women politicians there to the extent that currently the leaders of three political parties in the Northern Ireland Assembly are female. The latest ICC annual conference on politics and society in Northern Ireland since the Good Friday Agreement will hear the personal political journeys of: Margaret Ritchie (SDLP), Claire Sugden (Independent Unionist), Avila McMurray (Northern Ireland Women s Coalition), Michelle Gildernew MP (Sinn Féin), Sorcha Eastwood (Alliance Party). Starts: 7.30pm Tickets from: 8 2nd February GAS GAELIC GIRLS ALL-FEMALE COMEDY NIGHT HOSTED BY ANNA CLIFFORD Tonight, in honour of St. Brigid s Day, we feature a unique all-female line up of hilarious comedians. Leading the posse as MC will be the boisterous and hysterically funny Irish comic Anna Clifford. All ages and genders likely to be falling out of their chairs with laughter!
4 9th February MUSIC: YE VAGABONDS SUPPORTED BY NÓTA Nominated Best Traditional Track BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Nominated Best Album RTE Radio 1 Irish Folk Awards Brothers Brían and Diarmuid Mac Gloinn grew up playing music together around their hometown of Carlow. After moving to Dublin in 2012, they quickly became a staple of the live music and session scene in Ireland, playing their own original songs as well as folk songs from Ireland, Scotland, England and America. Joining them will be the next generation of the Sands, the four piece band Na Leanaí (meaning The Kids ) who are fast being acclaimed around Europe as the new folk sensation!!
