1 ROCK OF AGES AUDITION INFORMATION * NOTE - THIS SHOW HAS ADULT CONTENT AND, IF CAST, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO PERFORM AS SCRIPTED/DIRECTED. RESEARCH THIS SHOW BEFORE AUDITIONS SO THAT YOU WILL UNDERSTAND WHAT MAY BE ASKED OF YOU.* Johnson City Community Theatre is proud to announce auditions for the smash broadway hit ROCK OF AGES. Auditions will be held at Johnson City Community Theatre on Friday, March 25, and Saturday, March 26, with callbacks on Sunday, March 27, if needed. Scott Elliott, Director/Music Director, and Keegan Byington, Choreographer, will begin rehearsals on April 11, with Performances: June 3rd - June 18th. Weekly rehearsal schedule will be determined based on cast availability. Please bring all possible date conflicts. AUDITION INFORMATION: Ages 17 and up welcome. Please be aware of the very adult content of this show before auditioning. Anyone under the age of 18 will be required to have their legal guardian sign a consent form before auditioning. This form can be found by following this link forms.html. Singing/Acting auditions slots, in 5 minute increments, will be available from 6pm - 7pm, and 8pm - 9pm, with Choreography auditions from 7pm - 8pm, and 9pm and 10pm. You will only need to sign up for Singing/Acting auditions as Choreography auditions will immediate begin after your Singing/Acting auditions. Please audition@jcct.info for available time slots. If you a specific audition time we will try to accommodate you, but this will be first gets first choice. If you don t with a specific time you will be added to the first available time slot. You can also use this address for any questions and/or concerns. A return will confirm your time slot. If able, please complete our audition form on our forms page, and bring it with you. Otherwise, please arrive early enough to be able to fill out an audition form before your time slot. IF YOU DO NOT AND REQUEST AN AUDITION TIME, YOU WILL ONLY BE SEEN IF TIME ALLOWS.

2 AUDITION REQUIREMENTS Please prepare a song, of your choice, from the 80 s rock songs that you know. It can be from ROCK OF AGES, or from any other band you are comfortable singing. Please be prepared to sing one verse and a chorus, no more than 2 minutes in length. Please bring sheet music, IN THE KEY YOU WANT TO SING IT for the accompanist. It MUST be an UPTEMPO song. No ballads. It needs to show off your voice, range and power. ACT THE SONG. Don t overinterpret it, but we want to see you PERFORM, not just sing. Please prepare a monologue of your choice. It needs to show emotion. If your strong suit is comedy, then select a monologue where you can show us your comedic timing, etc. No longer than 2 minutes. Current Headshot and Theatre Resume. If you need help, please follow the format of our sample resume on the forms page, or us at audition@jcct.info. Experience is not required Headshot should be current and look like you do at the time of the audition. Headshot s should be 4x6 or larger, please. Bring your list of any and all date/time conflicts. This could be anything from work, school, church, or other events. If you are cast, and you miss a rehearsal that is NOT on your conflict sheet, you may be recast. This show requires lots of preparation, and absences, other than known conflicts, are detrimental to the process. Also, be prepared to answer questions about the possibility of wearing a wig or dying your hair, shaving, etc. Be sure to note which roles you are auditioning for on your audition sheet. ANY is an acceptable role selection. If you don t specify a certain role you may not be considered for that role. Please go to our forms page and download the audition sheet. Have this sheet filled out when you arrive. HOW THE AUDITION WILL BE RUN: You should arrive at least 15 minutes PRIOR to your assigned audition slot. You need to be dressed for the part(s) you want. We want to see you as a rocker, rock legend, groupie (within reason - don t take it too far). Once it is your turn, the Stage Manager will bring you on stage for your audition. When you walk in the room, hand your music to the accompanist, explain any markings or tempos you wish, then find the mark on the stage. Introduce yourself with projection and tell us what song you will be singing. You will sing your selection first, then perform your monologue. We (the audition panel) may ask you a few questions while you are in the room, or we may not. Once your audition is completed, you will return to the lobby. BRING A CHANGE OF CLOTHES. After your audition, change in to comfortable clothes and be ready for the choreography segment of the audition. Once that has completed, you will be free to leave. By doing auditions this way, you are guaranteed to be at auditions LESS than 2 hours.

3 ABOUT THE SHOW: It s the tail end of the big, bad 1980 s in Hollywood, and the party has been raging hard. Aqua Net, Lycra, lace and liquor flow freely at one of the Sunset Strips last legendary venues, a place where sex machine Stacee Jaxx takes the stage and scantily clad groupies line up to turn their fantasies into reality. Amidst the madness, aspiring rock star (and resident toilet cleaner) Drew longs to take the stage as the next big thing (and longs for small-town girl Sherri, fresh off the bus from Kansas with stars in her eyes). But the rock and roll fairy-tale is about to end when German developers sweep into town with plans to turn the fabled Strip into just another capitalist strip mall. Can Drew, Sherri and the gang save the strip - and themselves - before it s too late? Only the music of hit bands Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake and more hold the answer! CHARACTERS: *Note ALL characters will be in various states of dress and undress. If cast, please be prepared to wear revealing/skimpy clothing.* RESEARCH THIS SHOW SO THAT YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT MAY BE ASKED OF YOU. DREW BOLEY - Age 20 s. An appealing, good-guy rocker with great, easy comedic timing, a boyish charm, vulnerability and a very strong rock tenor voice. Drew works at the legendary Bourbon Room hoping and waiting for his dreams to come true. He finds an instant attraction to Sherrie, the beautiful new arrival from the Midwest, who encourages him to go after his dreams. (Vocal Range: Bb3 - D5, with some higher "screams") SHERRIE CHRISTIAN - Age 20 s. Caucasian female, as in0shape, pretty, fresh faced, innocent Midwestern girl stepping right off the bus into a new world to pursue her dreams of stardom. Strong comedic timing, strong rock belt, good movement ability. Should be comfortable in revealing/skimpy clothing. (Vocal Range: G3 - F5) LONNY BARNETT - Age 30 s - 40 s. The narrator of the piece, charming, mischievous, welcoming, vibrant personality, a guy who would be fun to spend one drunken night with. Strong, honest comedic timing/improv skills and strong rock vocals. Needs to be comfortable with a possible kiss with another male. (Vocal Range: D3 - D5) DENIIS DUPREE - Age Classic stoner type guy who runs the famous Bourbon Room club. Torn about whether he should sell the club to Hertz, a German businessman. Very strong comedic timing. A laid back, easy going dude. Bari-tenor rock vocals. Needs to be comfortable with a possible kiss with another male. (Vocal Range: D3-G4) STACEE JAXX - Age A sexy rock star. Decided to leave his successful hair/metal-rock band to try it solo. Self important, confident, intriguing in all the wrong ways, the ultimate bad boy; he is all about sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll. Great strong comedic timing and rock tenor voice. (Vocal Range: C3 - Eb5)

4 JUSTICE CHARLIER - Age Strong presence, an easy sensuality about her, once a performer, she now operates a strip club where Sherrie winds up working. Takes on the maternal role for the girls that work for her. Strong, soulful vocals and belt needed. (Vocal Range: G3 - Db5) HERTZ KLINEMANN - Age An attractive older German male. Uptight, cold, intimidating businessman trying to buy up the Strip to develop it. The bad guy of the piece. Strong coedic timing and baritone vocals. (Vocal Range: F3 - G#4) FRANZ KLINEMANN - Age 20 s. Hertz's son, young German male. Works for his father but not by choice. Pressured and intimidated by his father. Shy, gentle with a big heart. Strong vocals and comedic timing. (Vocal Range: Db3 - E5) REGINA - Age 20 s. A fun, hippit type, in shape, earthy girl who fights against the attempted take over of the Strip. Strong comedic timing, belt vocals and comfortable in revealing/skimpy clothing. (Vocal Range: A3 - Eb5) MAYOR, JA KEITH, JOEY PRIMO, ENSEMBLE - Age Strong character actors with good comedic timing to play these roles, strong rock bari-tenor and strong dance/movement ability needed for some. (Vocal Ranges: D3 - B4) FEMALE ENSEMBLE - Age 20 s Sxy female dancer/singers. Sassy, beautiful. Must be conmfortable in very skimpy/sexy clothing. Strong dancers help, along with comedic ability and strong rock vocals. MOTHER - Age Sherrie s Mother. Could be doubled by another cast member. FATHER - Age Sherrie s Father.
