2 Production Creatives Director Anne Somes Musical Director/Conductor Ian McLean Choreographer Jacqui Richards Vocals Sarah Darnley Stuart Repetiteur Nicholas Griffin Synposis The first Australian musical to conquer Broadway, The Boy from Oz was a huge success here in Australia with multi-award winner Todd McKenney as Peter Allen. The Broadway version was nominated for five Tony Awards in 2004, including Best Musical, and won Best Actor in a Musical (Hugh Jackman). The Boy from Oz focuses on the extraordinary life of legendary singer/songwriter Peter Allen, from his birth in 1944 in Tenterfield, NSW and humble beginnings growing up in rural Armidale to his meteoric rise to fame as an international star. The story covers Peter's career in Australia and the United States, as well as his relationships with legendary singing stars Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli, until his death in A juke-box musical, The Boy from Oz weaves many of Peter Allen s most famous and beloved songs into his life story: unforgettable songs like When I Get My Name in Lights, Quiet Please, There s a Lady on Stage, Everything Old is New Again, I Honestly Love You, Don t Cry Out Loud, I Still Call Australia Home and I Go to Rio.

Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli The roles of Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli require an emotional depth. Research these performers but make sure that you do not present a caricature or impersonation but show that you can embody the role. General All potential auditionees will be required to submit a 1 page bio/cv including photograph to freeraintheatre@gmail.com Please highlight theatre experience and all training where applicable. Make sure this is forwarded with your request for an audition time. If you have a specific area of expertise please make sure that is the main focus of your bio/cv. If you are a strong performer in a number of areas please ensure that you adequately cover those aspects. Please indicate with your CV whether you are a: Singer Dancer Actor Singer/Dancer/Actor Singer/Dancer Audition Forms are included in the Audition Pack and may be completed before arrival if you wish. Arrive early enough to fill in the appropriate forms and talk through your song with the audition pianist. Bring sheet music in the key you wish to sing (no taped music or requests to transpose). Please prepare your music in a folder with plastic sleeves for ease of page turning for the repetiteur. Prepare a monologue (about 200 words or no more 1 ½ mins) in contemporary language that is in keeping with the role you are auditioning for. Please be available for call backs and intensive workshop on Sun 27th October. This will involve character scene work, vocals from show and possible choreography. All auditionees will be required to participate in all aspects of the audition process.

7 Audition Requirements The panel wishes to know your strengths. You will note the expectations for all roles are indicated below. Please indicate in your request for an audition the role/s for which you wish to be considered. Make sure the role for which you wish to audition is in your vocal range. Please note the roles and the emphasis in terms of strengths required for each role. Dancers need to be proficient in modern and jazz styles with some tap experience. Please provide details of length of dance training/experience. Auditionees will be required to attend a separate dance audition. Singers/actors will be required to attend a movement audition. Dancers should wear comfortable/appropriate clothing (no loose tops or wrap arounds). Bring jazz and character shoes (and tap shoes if you have them, although not essential), and be warmed up before commencing your dance audition. AGREEMENT FOR The Boy From Oz All Cast members when committing to The Boy From Oz must ensure they fully honour their commitment to remain in the production. A cast member shall: Ensure that they are available for the entire production period. Attend all rehearsals and performances as called. Provide timely warning of any unavoidable absences to appropriate person. If one rehearsal is missed without apology, a member may be removed from the cast. Be punctual and remain at rehearsals as long as required. Be available for a range of Media & Publicity events during working hours.
