He has performed as a member of early music ensembles throughout the world and is also a founding member of the ensemble Ciaramella, which performs concerts of fifteenth-century music and has recorded on the Naxos label. 2 Reminder of Voting by Members At the January 2011 Meeting As previously announced, at the January meeting the members will be voting on approval of Articles of Association and amended and restated Bylaws for OCRS. These proposed documents are available for review at the OCRS website, Please plan to attend the January meeting so that a quorum of members will be present. Susan Mason, Treasurer President s Letter Don t know about you folks, but I think this season had started very well, indeed! The conductors have been well prepared and have brought us some really fine music! Too, we have learned a bit more about them and their commitment to music. We start off the new year with Adam Gilbert. I m looking forward to his session. Don t forget our workshop in March with Lysette Kielson, a mage from the East. I've heard nothing but good things about her. She will conduct us Friday night, conduct the workshop on Saturday and perform a concert that evening, then maybe private lessons on Sunday. We have six more months of playing together and I m certain that we will have entertaining and challenging music to play. Too, we have six more months to meet, maybe firm up some friendships, eat great goodies, and do what we all enjoy...playing a recorder! Happy New Year, one and all! Your co president, Jo Redmon Orange County Recorder Society Newsletter Page 2

3 Music Music is no longer being ed because it was a burden for some members boxes. Please go to the OCRS website at to download it (or just the parts you want to play). Music is supplied as PDF files, the same format as the better-quality version of the newsletter. If your computer doesn t read PDFs, click here and then click on the large red rectangle to find the appropriate version of Adobe Reader for your computer. Simply download as instructed and install the Adobe Reader program just as you would any other. Refreshments We thank Gloria Martin for her lovely Christmas snacks and Jo Redmon for the tasty punch. We are looking forward to January s snacks provided by Jim and Jay Forrest. Drinks by Shauna Roberts and David Malueg. January s Musical Prelude Andy Dykes, Susan Mason, and Steve Myer will present the prelude before the January meeting. They will be playing three movements from Will Ayton s Incantations for the Solar Year. The movements are entitled Winter Solstice Song, Dance for May Eve, and Rune for Autumn s Wind. We invite you or your ensemble to sign up to perform the pre-meeting prelude at 7:20 p.m. during a meeting this year. This is a great opportunity to perform before a friendly audience and show your friends what you are working on. If you sometimes need encouragement to practice between meetings, an upcoming performance is a good motivator. If you would like to perform, please contact Andy Dykes at ADykes@cox.net.
