Roert Burns first ulished this old Scottish song in the 796 edition of the ook entitled Scots Musical Museum. Burns transcried it (and refined the lyrics) after he heard it sung y an elderly man from the Ayrshire area of Scotland. It is often said that AULD LANG SYNE is one of the most oular songs in the orld yet fe kno the lyrics. The term syne literally translates to old long since and means times gone y. The song asks hether old friends and old times ill e forgotten and romises to rememer fondly eole of the ast. Lomardo first heard AULD LANG SYNE in his hometon of London Ontario here it as sung y Scottish immigrants. When he and his rothers formed the famous dance and Guy Lomardo and His Royal Canadians the song ecame one of their standards. Lomardo layed the song at midnight at a Ne Year s Eve arty at the Roosevelt Hotel in Ne York City in 99 and a tradition as orn. After that Lomardo s version of the song as layed every Ne Year s Eve from the 930s until 976 at the Waldorf-Astoria. In the first years it as roadcast on radio and then on television. It has een said that AULD LANG SYNE must e layed for the American ulic to really elieve that the ne year has arrived! Roert W.
