4 Veena Chandra, Sitar Faculty Concert Friday September 12, 8pm Veena Chandra is an internationally renowned sitarist, composer, teacher, and choreographer, and Skidmore Music Department faculty member since Patrice Malatestinic, Horn Faculty Concert Sunday, September 14, 3pm Patrice Malatestinic has been a horn instructor, brass coach, and director of the horn ensemble at Skidmore for 23 years. Program includes music by Mahler, Vinter, Bizet, Franz, Nehlybel, and Bentzon. Performers include; Todd Sisley, piano, and Brass Takts; Eric Latini, Trumpet, Gerald Zaffuts, trombone, and Patrice Malatestinic, horn. Sterne Virtuoso Concert Series Eric Harland with Voyager Friday, September 26, 8pm Multi-Grammy nominee Eric Harland has been recognized in the Boston Globe, New York Times, JazzTimes, New Yorker, and other prominent publications for his undeniable skill as a jazz drummer. He brings his widely recognized group Voyager to perform on the Zankel stage for the first time. Finger Lakes Guitar Quartet Thursday, October 23, 8pm The Finger Lakes Guitar Quartet is an ensemble of accomplished guitar soloists; Joel Brown and Brett Grigsby, both Skidmore Music Department faculty, along with Sten Isachsen and Paul Quigley. The quartet has performed throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. A Jacob Perlow Series Event Pola Baytelman Sunday, October 26, 3pm Celebrating the Music of Jewish Composers: Milhaud, Schoenfield, Mendelssohn, Schulhoff and Schoenberg. Acclaimed pianist and Skidmore faculty member Pola Baytelman has toured extensively in China, Europe, Hong Kong, South America, and across the United States. Her broad repertory spans from the 18th to the 21st centuries, contributing to her strong reputation as both an artist and an educator. Klemperer Trio Concert Monday, October 27, 8pm Formed in 1980, the Klemperer Trio has performed to critical acclaim in the United States and Europe. The trio consists of Erika Klemperer, violin; Ronald Crutcher, violoncello; and Gordon Back, piano. 8 The Complete Beethoven String Quartet Cycle Presented by the ELM Chamber Music Residency Six internationally renowned guest artists will present the full cycle of Beethoven s 16 string quartets over the course of the next two years. Talich Quartet Saturday, November 1, 8pm For several decades, the Talich Quartet has been recognized internationally as one of Europe s finest chamber ensembles, and as the embodiment of the great Czech musical tradition. Beatlemore Skidmania 2014 Friday, November 21, 8pm Saturday, November 22, 2pm The 14th annual concert of music by The Beatles performed by Skidmore students and faculty recognizes the 50th anniversary of the arrival of the Beatles in America. Music that the band released in 1964 included both new material and material they had already released in the UK the previous year. Proceeds will benefit local nonprofit organizations. 11 FALL2014 Arthur Zankel Music Center Since opening in 2010, the Arthur Zankel Music Center at Skidmore College has served as a gateway building for the campus. The center boasts approximately 54,000 square feet of teaching, practice, performance, and administrative space- including the 600-seat, acoustically tuned Helen Filene Ladd Concert Hall and the 75- seat Elisabeth Luce Moore Hall- and has become a hub of musical activity, hosting renowned visiting artists and student performers, including a number of the area s best-known performing groups. The center is named in memory of Arthur Zankel, a financier and philanthropist who was a Skidmore trustee, parent, and longtime supporter. His bequest to Skidmore of $46 million is the largest gift in the college s history. Of the bequest, $15 million went to the Zankel Music Center. Support Zankel Skidmore welcomes the support from alumni, parents, and friends to enhance the operations of the Zankel Music Center. When you name a seat in the Helen Filene Ladd Concert Hall, an inscribed plate will be permanently attached to it, creating a lasting legacy in your name, in the name of a friend or faculty member, in someone s memory, or in recognition of a company or organization. Gifts of $3,000- $15,000 will name a seat in various locations within the hall. Accessibility The Zankel Music Center s Ladd Concert Hall and restrooms are handicapped-accessible. Two handicapped parking sections are located near the building s main entrance, and there is a drop-off location adjacent to the handicapped ramp outside the main entrance. When purchasing tickets, please let the box office know of any special requests or needs. House Policies The taking of photographs and/or the use of recording devices during performances is strictly prohibited. Latecomers will be admitted at the first convenient pause in the performance and will be seated at the discretion of the events manager. Latecomers will be able to view/ hear the event from the lobby. Food and beverages are not allowed in the concert hall. Our Assistive Listening System can aid patrons with a hearing loss of up to 75 percent.
