4 INTRODUCTION The XTENDEX Series ST-C6HD-HDBT HDMI HDBase-T Extender transmits uncmpressed digital HDMI signal, IR, and ptinal SPDIF digital audi up t 600 feet ver a single CAT6a/7 23AWG cable (r up t 450 feet with slid CAT5e/6) using HDBase-T technlgy. Each vide extender cnsists f a lcal unit that cnnects t an HDMI surce and IR emitter; and a remte unit that cnnects t an HDMI display, IR receiver, and ptinal SPDIF speakers. The XTENDEX Series ST-C64K-300 4K HDMI Extender transmits uncmpressed digital HDMI signal, and IR up t 300 feet ver a single CATx slid wire cable. Each vide extender cnsists f a lcal unit that cnnects t an HDMI surce and IR emitter; and a remte unit that cnnects t an HDMI display and IR receiver. The XTENDEX Series Extender is extremely simple t install and has been thrughly tested t insure reliable perfrmance. Thrugh the use f CAT5e/6/6a/7 (CATx) cable it is pssible t ecnmically increase the flexibility f an entertainment system. 9 LIMITATIONS The use f CAT5e r f any stranded cabling will reduce the maximum distance and reslutin. WARNING: If the CATx IN r CATx OUT prts f a pwered Remte r Lcal extender are cnnected t the RS232 prt f anther Remte r Lcal unit, the CATx prt will be damaged and render the XTENDEX unusable and vid the warranty. PREPARATION FOR INSTALLATION Lcatins shuld be chsen fr the mnitr that als has space t cnnect the Remte unit within the distance prvided by the cables. If extensin cables are needed, cntact NTI fr the cables required. The CATx cables must be run t the lcatins where the Remte and Lcal units will be cnnected. Be careful t rute the cables away frm any surces f magnetic fields r electrical interference that might reduce the quality f the vide signal (i.e. AC mtrs, welding equipment, flurescent lighting, etc.). All cables shuld be installed in such a way that they d nt cause stress n their cnnectins t the equipment. Extended lengths f cable hanging frm a cnnectin may interfere with the quality f that cnnectin. Secure cables as needed t minimize this. Prperly shut dwn and discnnect the pwer frm the vide surce and mnitr t be separated. If ther equipment is invlved whse cnnectins are being interrupted, be sure t refer t the instructin manuals fr that equipment fr prper discnnectin and recnnectin prcedures befre prceeding. Be very careful nt t bstruct the air vents n the Remte Unit in its installed lcatin. 12V mdel is pwered at the Lcal Unit nly. Pwer supply sld separately. 6

10 INSTALLATION Installing The Remte Unit 1. Psitin the Remte Unit such that the CATx cable, the mnitr cable(s), and audi cables (if applicable) can each reach the Remte Unit withut putting strain n the cables. 2. Cnnect a HD-xx-MM (r DVI-HD-xx-MM cable depending upn what cnnectr yur display will accept) t the female HDMI vide cnnectr labeled "HDMI Out" n the Remte Unit. 3. Cnnect the RCA cable (ptinal) between the audi device and the SPDIF Audi Out n the Remte Unit. Nte: The audi signal will be present at the SPDIF Audi Out cnnectr if an audi surce is cnnected t the SPDIF Audi In cnnectr n the Lcal Unit. 11 Installing The Lcal Unit 1. Cnnect an HD-3-MM (supplied) r DVI-HD-xx-MM cable (page 3) between the vide surce and the "HDMI In" cnnectr n the Lcal Unit. 2. Cnnect a RCA-3-MM (supplied) between an audi ut prt n the audi surce and the SPDIF Audi In cnnectr n the Lcal Unit (mdel ST-C6HD-DA-HDBT nly). Figure 3- Cnnect the XTENDEX Lcal Unit t the surce Cnnect the CATx Cables Cnnect the CATx cable between the CATx prts n the Lcal and Remte Unit. (See Figure 4) When prperly inserted the cable ends shuld snap int place. Nte: The ST-C64K-300 can be cnnected with a maximum 300 ft cable (CAT6a/7 STP).! WARNING: Never cnnect the XTENDEX t an Ethernet card, Ethernet ruter, hub r switch r ther Ethernet RJ45 cnnectr f an Ethernet device. Damage t devices cnnected t the Ethernet may result. 12 SPDIF and Stere Audi Feature Mdels ST-C6HDA(E)-HDBT include extra prts t supprt the cnnectin f a separate audi surce if desired. Either a SPDIF digital audi surce OR a stere audi surce can be cnnected (nt bth) t the Lcal Unit. The audi surce will be heard at the Remte Unit thrugh digital speakers and/r self-pwered stere are cnnected t it. 13 Plug-in and Bt Up 1. Plug the pwer crd frm the mnitr int the pwer utlet. 2. Cnnect an AC adapter pwer cnnectr t the 24VDC prt n either the Remte Unit r the Lcal Unit. Plug the AC adapter int a pwer utlet. The green LED n the RJ45 cnnectr f bth the Remte and Lcal Units shuld illuminate, indicating that a prper pwer cnnectin has been made t them. (See Figure 7) 3. Turn ON the vide surce and mnitr. The yellw LED n bth the Lcal and Remte Units shuld illuminate. The vide surce and mnitr shuld each react as if directly cnnected t each ther. NOTE: The ST-C6HD-HDBT-12VNPS is pwered by a 12VDC 2A pwer supply (sld separately) and at the Lcal Unit nly. The Remte Unit is pwered by the Lcal Unit thrugh the CATx cable. 14 INFRARED CONTROL The XTENDEX includes prts fr cnnecting an infrared emitter and receiver (included) t wrk in cnjunctin with the IR remte cntrl used t perate the signal surce. Cnnect the receiver t the IR IN prt n the Remte Unit and the emitter t the IR OUT prt n the Lcal unit. Psitin the end f the receiver such that the signal frm the remte cntrl can easily reach the IR sensr. Psitin the end f the emitter such that the extended signal can be sent t the signal surce. Nte: The IR Emitter and Receiver wrk within a frequency range f 30-50kHz. 15 100BASET + RS232 SUPPORT If yu have purchased the STC6HDE-HDBT, then yur unit includes additinal supprt fr 100BaseT and RS232 extensin. With the 100BaseT supprt ptin, the Ethernet Prt can be used t extend a Lcal r Wide Area Netwrk (LAN/WAN) cnnectin. The Lcal r Remte unit can be used t cnnect a mdem, Blu-Ray player, ruter r switch r a netwrk device (PC, printer, hub etc) If the netwrk device is cnnected at the Lcal Unit, then the LAN/WAN cnnectin must be at the Remte Unit, and visa versa. Cnnect the DB9F t RJ45 adapter (supplied) t the CPU and a CATx patch cable between the adapter and the RS232 prt n the Lcal Unit. Cnnect the DB9M t RJ45 adapter (supplied) t the mnitr and a CATx patch cable between the adapter and the RS232 prt n the Remte Unit. WARNING: If the CATx IN r CATx OUT prts f a pwered Remte r Lcal extender are cnnected t the RS232 prt f anther Remte r Lcal unit, the CATx prt will be damaged and render the XTENDEX unusable and vid the warranty. 12
