1 Congratulations on your purchase of the ProVu PD6000 process meter! This quick start guide will briefly describe some of the common setup procedures for this meter. 2 Basic Wiring for ProVu Meter The connectors label, affixed to the top of the meter, shows the location of all available connectors. Connect your wires to the provided connectors and plug into the meter as indicated ma Input Wiring Wiring for a 4-20 ma input using either an external power supply or self powered transmitter. 3 Program and Scale 4-20 ma Input These instructions show you how to program the ProVu meter to accept a 4-20 ma input and display a value associated with that range. When the meter is receiving a 4 ma input, it will display the low end of the display range; when receiving a 20 ma input, it will display the high end of the display range. The input values (InP 1 & InP 2) can be changed if needed, but the steps to do this have been omitted for this quick start guide. For example: If the meter were used to display the level of a 100 ft tall tank, the transmitter should send a 4 ma signal when the tank is empty and a 20 ma signal when the tank is full. The meter should be programmed to interpret these inputs on a display range of 0-100, so that at 4 ma the meter will display 0.00 and at 20 ma the meter will display press to SEtup (Setup) 4 accept nma (Milliamp) as the input type. 5 multiple times, until the dec pt (Decimal Point) menu is displayed and press 7 to InPut (Input) until the desired decimal point location is displayed and press 8 ProG (Program) SCALE (Scale) 9 10 three times, until dis 1 (Low Display Value) is displayed. Use which and the selected digit. to change to increment when done. d-scal (Dual Scale) menu, press to select yes or no, then press. 4 Program and Scale 0-10 V Input These instructions show you how to program the ProVu meter to accept a 0-10 V input and display a value associated with that range. When the meter is receiving a 0 V input, it will display the low end of the display range; when receiving a 10 V input, it will display the high end of the display range. The input values (InP 1 & InP 2) can be changed if needed, but the steps to do this have been omitted for this quick start guide. For example: If the meter were used to display the level of a 100 ft tall tank, the transmitter should send a 0 V signal when the tank is empty and a 10 V signal when the tank is full. 5 Program Relays for Automatic Reset These instructions show you how to program the ProVu meter to turn on the relays at programmable set points and turn off the relays at reset points. Note: If the set point is higher than the reset point, the relay will be a high alarm. If the set point is lower than the reset point, the relay will be a low alarm. press to SEtup (Setup) until the relay (Relay) menu is displayed and then press 4 until the appropriate relay number is displayed (rly 1-8) and then press Act (Relay Action) 5 accept Auto (Automatic Reset). Note: See PD6000 Instruction Manual for details on additional relay actions. 7 the selected digit. when done to accept the new set point value. 9 the selected digit. when done to accept the new set point value. return to Run Mode. 6 set (Relay Set Point) 8 rst (Relay Reset Point) Note: select a different relay during step. If you need to program more relays, simply repeat steps -9 for each additional relay. Up to eight (8) relays can be installed using the ProVu meter. Consult the ProVu PD6000 Instruction Manual for information on additional relay action types. 5
6 Program Pump Alternation Control These instructions show you how to program the ProVu meter to alternate between relays when the set point is reached. This relay action is most commonly used to alternate between primary and backup sump pumps so that they wear evenly over their life spans. Note: With pump alternation active, when the first set point is reached the meter will alternate between the relays set up with the altern relay action. The other relays will be activated in turn if the subsequent relay set points are reached. They will also be deactivated in turn as their reset points are reached. press to SEtup (Setup) 4 until the appropriate relay number is displayed (rly 1-8) and then press This will be the relay that will activate the primary sump pump. 5 until altern (Pump Alternation) is displayed and then press to accept. 7 8 the selected digit. when done to accept the new set point value the selected digit. when done to accept the new reset point value. 6 until the relay (Relay) menu is displayed and then press Act (Relay Action) 6 to set (Relay Set Point) to rst (Relay Reset Point) next relay (rly) This will be the relay that activates the backup sump pump.

Program Custom Unit Tags These instructions show you how to program the ProVu meter to display custom unit tags for the process value. The secondary (little) display shows this custom unit tag by default. Note: The custom unit tag has no bearing on the meter s operation or the process value. Displaying a custom unit tag is simply for ease of reading. press to SEtup (Setup) 4 The meter will display the default unit tag (ma). Notice here that the letter 'm' uses two 7 segment LEDs. This is true of the letter 'w' as well. until the units (Units) menu is displayed and then press letter is selected and to increment to the next letter. when done to accept the new custom unit tag. 7
8 Program 4-20 ma Analog Output These instructions show you how to program the ProVu meter to output an analog signal based on its display value. This signal is commonly output to a PLC or chart recorder. Note: The display values programmed for 4-20 analog output do not need to be the same as those programmed as input scale values, though they most commonly will be. until the aout (Analog Out) menu press to is displayed SEtup (Setup) and then press 4 dis 1 (Display #1) This is the display value at which the low range of the output will be transmitted. 5 Out 1 (Output #1) This is the output signal which represents dis 1. 7 dis 1 (Display #1) This is the display value at which the high range the selected digit. when of the output will be transmitted. done to accept the new display value Out 2 (Output #2) This is the output signal which represents dis 2. 8 the selected digit. when done to accept the new display value. 6 The default value of (4.000 ma) should be sufficient for most applications. accept the default value. 8 The default value of ( ma) should be sufficient for most applications. accept the default value. return to Run Mode.
9 Program Round Horizontal Tank These instructions show you how to program the ProVu meter to display the volume of a cylindrical tank that is laid horizontally. In level applications, the Round Horizontal Tank feature will automatically account for the non-linear increase in volume as a function of tank height. Just provide the diameter and length of the tank and the meter will do the rest. and until hold for the SELEct five seconds (Select) menu to enter the is displayed Advanced Features Menu. and then press 4 Functn (Function) rth (Round Horizontal Tank) 5 6 select whether to use Inch (Inches) or Cnm dianmr (Diameter) (Centimeters) for the diameter and length measurements. 10 Program Multi-Point Linearization These instructions show you how to program the ProVu meter to linearize the display for non-linear signals such as those from level transmitters used to measure volume in odd-shaped tanks. Meters are set up with 2-point linearization by default (meaning that the measurement scale is completely linear). This is a more advanced version of the Round Horizontal Tank feature described on the previous page. and until hold for the SELEct five seconds (Select) menu to enter the is displayed Advanced Features Menu. and then press 4 Functn (Function) 5 6 to access the linear (Linearization) select no PtS (Number of Linearization Points) the number of linearization points (2-2) and then press. 7 8 SCALE (Scale) 9 10 twice, InP 1 (First Input Value) is displayed. This is the input value (in ma or V) which represents the lowest display value. Use and to change the value. when done. twice, dis 1 (First Display Value) is displayed. Use and to change the value. when done. 10 twice, InP 2 (Second Input Value) is displayed. Use and to change the value. when done.

Program Noise Filter These instructions show you how to program the noise filter on the ProVu meter in case you are experiencing an unusually noisy signal. The noise filter averages the input signal over a certain period. The filter level determines the length of time over which the signal is averaged. Setting the filter level to zero disables the filter function. and hold for five seconds to enter the Advanced Features Menu. the filter (filter) to enter the selected digit. when done to accept the new filter level. Program Process Rounding These instructions show you how to program the rounding feature on the ProVu meter. The rounding feature is used to give the user a steadier display with fluctuating signals and is used in addition to the filter function. This will cause the display to round to the nearest value according the selected rounding value. and hold for five seconds to enter the Advanced Features Menu. The meter will display saved (Saved). to return to Run Mode. until the round (Rounding) menu is displayed and then press when done. select the rounding factor and then press. 11
12 Setup Password Protection The ProVu meter can be protected against unauthorized changes with the use of three tier password protection. These steps show how to set up a password. press until the PASS (Password) menu is displayed and then press 4 and to increment the digit. select the type of password you would like to create. PASS 1: Allows use of function keys and digital inputs PASS 2: Allows use of function keys, digital inputs and editing set/reset points PASS : Restricts all programming, function keys, and digital inputs when done to accept the new password. The meter will display Locd (Locked). Note: In order to unlock the meter once it has been locked, press then and enter the password. In order to disable password protection, press then and enter the password. Then repeat the above steps and enter the password in the applicable password tier. This will remove password protection and allow programming of the meter. Consult instruction manual for additional information. Return Meter to Factory Defaults If a mistake has been made while programming the meter and it is unclear where the error occurred, the best option may be to perform a factory reset of the meter and begin again. These steps show how to perform a factory reset of the ProVu meter. and until hold for the diag (diagnostics) menu five seconds to enter the is displayed.
