2 Speech Due: Famous American Report and Speech Guidelines Students will have the chance to research an influential American figure from history and magically become that person for our Historical Americans Wax Museum on. We will be spending lots of time in school researching and taking notes. About half of the project should be completed at school and half will be completed at home. We will be working on this project during two days of our Social Studies time when we go to the library to do research. During the middle of March, we will be using our Language Arts time to work on the writing part of the report and speech in class. Researching and writing will have to be completed at home too. The research report will count as a Language Arts grade and the speech will count as a Social Studies grade. REPORT GUIDELINES * Cover Page (Famous American s name, hand-drawn picture in color of person, and your name) * Five Paragraph Report Written IN YOUR OWN WORDS (see outline) * Bibliography Showing Each of the Sources Used (see examples) * Report Should be in Final Copy Form (blue/black ink and cursive or typed- neatly stapled or in report cover) * Five or More Resources Need to be Used (two must be books)

17 Famous American Speech Reminders You will be giving your speech in front of people who will be visiting our Famous Americans Wax Museum. This includes me when I will be grading you on your speech for a Social Studies grade. You need to write your main points on note cards so you can peek at them if you need to during your speech. Your speech will be a mini-version of your Research Report. Your speech should not go over five minutes and should be at least three minutes long. Remember to dress up like your character and when talking about the famous person, use I and me in your speech. On the other hand, your paper will be written in third person, using he, she, and they. Make sure you speak in a loud and clear voice and maintain eye contact with your listener(s). Pay close attention to your speaking speed and don t rush your speech. Have fun!
