Provide full name of your explorer, the country of his/her birth, years of birth and death, and what prompted him/her to pursue the expedition. Include important dates. Famous Expedition (3-5 paragraphs): Describe the events and outcome of the exploration(s) that caused this explorer to become well known. What were his/her most important achievements, and what contribution to the world did he/she make? What newly-discovered technology did he/she make use of? Feel free to include other relevant, interesting details. Be sure to include important dates. Be sure to include a closing paragraph. Remember All writing must be in your own words. Copying sentences word-for-word during your research is plagiarism, and that s illegal. Map: Design a full-color map that shows this explorer s most famous route. Include and label the following details: Starting point Final destination Oceans Countries Red line showing the route Compass rose Key Flag: Create an accurate, full-color drawing of the flag of the country from which your explorer set off.
2 Monument: Design a monument (drawing, painting, sculpture, or any other creative idea) that celebrates your explorer s accomplishment. Include the explorer s full name, dates of birth and death, his accomplishment and why it was important. Mention the dates and routes of his expedition. As you try to decide what to do, think of things you might be familiar with, like plaques, gravestones, or statues. For more ideas, look up famous monuments that really exist, like the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and Statue of Liberty. Bibliography: Remember you must collect and record this information while you do your research, not after you write your report. **Please visit the public library to find a variety of resources (biographies, encyclopedias, history books) on your topic, as well as using the internet. You will have limited computer lab time at school to do research. Your final draft must be typed using a clear font (no fancy, hard-to-read type) and point type in black ink. Remember, revision is a very important step in the writing process.
