11 RSC Library guide 9 Internet access policy The library team are pleased to provide you with access to the internet and its rich array of chemistry resources. Please note the following rules for Chemistry Centre I.T. users: 1. Users are prohibited from visiting sites that contain obscene, racist, hateful or pornographic material. 2. Users are prohibited from visiting sites that contain violence, weapons, terrorism or militant material. 3. Users are prohibited from using the internet to send offensive, defamatory or harassing material to other users. 4. It is forbidden to download, view or transmit any material that is in violation of any law or regulation, defamatory, in breach of intellectual property rights or in breach of trade secrets. 5. Because of the volatile nature of the internet and its constantly changing nature, it is not possible to set out definitively what is or is not acceptable use. RSC Members are considered capable of recognising sites which contain inappropriate material. 6. If you open any such website detailed above accidently, you should close it immediately and inform the librarian. 7. File sharing using p2p networks, torrent software, or newsgroups is not permitted. 8. Attempting to gain access to any system for which authorised access has not been granted is prohibited. 9. Installation of any software onto the equipment provided is prohibited. Because the Members Area is a public place, Chemistry Centre staff have the authority to end an internet session when inappropriate material displays on the screen. If, in their judgement, the user is intentionally displaying such content, staff and volunteers also have the right to require the offending individual to leave the premises. The RSC reserves the right to monitor members internet use. The RSC reserves the right to modify these policies at any time.
