1 British Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences 33 Bibliometric Study of Electronic Journal of Academic and Special Librarianship Dr Vaishali Khaparde Head and Associate Professor Department of Library & Information Science, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad (Maharashtra) India Abstract Bibliometric Analysis is a branch of Bibliometrics which deals with the study of complex relationship between cited of citing documents the present study analyzed list citations appended to 84 articles publish at 5 volumes during in the Electronic journal of Academic of special librarianship. The methodology is based on Bibliometric techniques of bibliometirc Analysis. The study shows than an average number of citations are round 14, 19, 16, 13, 22 pert year the. The journals are cit - ed more than other information sources more than other half of the citations are single authored Geographical distribution of citations indicates that India, New York, London & USA. Occupied the top four positions covering 76.74% of citations. This study made an attempt to examine the year wise distribution of citations, type of information sources used, authorship pattern, Geographical distribution & core journals in the field of Electronic Journal of Academic & special librarianship. Key words Bibliometrics, Bibliometric Analysis E- Journal, Academic Library, Special Library. Introduction Bibliometrics is an emerging trust area of research in the field of library Information science. It values the quantitative evaluation of publication of all micro and macro- communications though mathematical and statistical calculation. Bibliometrics Analysis is now considered as an active area of bibliometric research. Etymologically the word bibliometrics is derived from two Greek words Biblio means books metrics means scale or measure Alan Princhard (1967), was first coined the term bibliometrics and defined it as the application of mathematical and Statistical methods to books and other media of communication. Bibliometrics The idea of using bibliometric method in connection with construction and maintences of knowledge organization system is not new but only few actual construction attempts have been made (Patter & Garfield, 1970). Bibliometrics Analysis Scientific research is a cumulative and continuous process, a new research is always based on the earlier works. A reference is the acknowledgement that one document give to another, citations are the List of references appended to each articles painting to prior publications that were used in writing a paper. Bibliometric Analysis is that area of bibliometrics which deals with the study of relationship between the cited and citing document ( Malin,1968). Eugene Garfied, (1983), define the bibliometric analysis as the examination of the frequency patterns and graphs of citations in articles and books.

2 British Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences 34 Bibliometrics analysis is a branch of bibliometrics where the unit of anlaysis is a document that is being cited as a bibliographic references. It is the study of distribution of scattering of references these studies help in the selection of documents saving large amounts to the organizations. It helps in planning and organization of resources sharing, networking and consortia. E- Journal A journal is Academic in nature which is published using the world, wide, web, such a journal usually uses internet technology, refereeing of papers. Many e-journals pride themselves on rapid refereeing and consequent repaid publication ( Gupta,1998). E- Journals defined as the grouping of information that is sent out in electronic with some equality. It covers and serial or serial like publication available in electronic format, which is produced published and distributed electronically (Remesh, Yeramagula, 2003). Electronic Journal of Academic and Special Librarianship Electronic Journal of Academic and Special Librarianship is an independent professional, referred electronic journal dedicated first and foremost to advancing knowledge and research in the areas of academic and special librarianship without regard to region or country, it is also committed to principles of open access for academic and special librarianship it is quarterly published journal. Methodology Bibliometric approach is used for the present study. The data relating to all the bibliographical references appended to the articles published in Electronic Journal of Academic and Special librarianship from were collected analyzed and tabulated the scope of the study is restricted to five years only. Objective of the study The study has been carried out with the following objectives. To study the year wise distribution of articles. To study the year wise distribution of citations To know the different types of Information sources used by the authors. To study the authorship pattern of citations. To identified the core journals in Electronic Journal of Academic and Special Librarianship. To study the obsolescence of the Journal To study the country wise distribution of citations. Scope and limitation The present study limited to 1151 citations appended to 84 articles in 5 Volumes and 15 issues.from in Electronic journal of academic and special librarianship.

3 British Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences 35 Data collection The relevant data was collected from the Electronic Journals of Academic and special librarianship published from time to time which was treated as a basis for the study. Data can be numerically expressed that is quantifiable on objectives (Fasibis off and Dely 1990). The data was collected from 5 volumes, 15 issues of Electronic Journal of Academic and Special Librarianship during In all 1151 citations appended to 84 articles were further analyzed. Data Analysis Analyzed of information or data is one of the important part of any study. Data analyzed is done for the purpose of reducing hug volume of data into meaningful case report. Analysis of total 1151 citations appended 84 articles was done of the journal during The study was done by using varies parameters like to identify the core journal, rank list of cited journal, rank list of the cited author of cited to find out geographical distribution of citations to find out the types of cited documents. The data of information was presented in the form of table and graphs to show the result prominently. Year wise distribution of article The year wise distribution of 84 article published from 2005 to 2009 in 5 volume is containing 15 issues of the Journal is presented in the table No.1 the table 1 shows that highest number of articles were in the year 2009 with 22 articles. The range of article published per year during the period is between 19 and 16. It is noted that the average number of articles published per volume is Table No. 1 Year Wise Distribution of Articles Sr.No. Year Volume No. No.of Articles Cumulative Published Total 5 84 Year Wise distribution of citations: The year wise distribution of citations is present in table 2. It shows that the highest number of citations were used were in the year 2009 with 311 (27.01%) citations. The range of citations found under the study is between. 255(12.15%) and 220(19.11%) in five years. The average citations per volume are the average number of citations per articles is approximately. 9 British Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences 41 Figure no 3. Obsolescence of Electronic Journal of Academic and Special Librarianship above Obsolescence of Electronic Journal of Academic and Special librarianship The obsolescence rate of literature can be assessed by citation analysis which can give an indication of how far a research er must go back to obtain a reprwsentative sample of the publish literature in a given field All these citations fall into five year sequences. The table clearly indicates that ages in year sequence has highest number of 215 (18.68%)citations followed by 125 (10.88%) citations in the age in years and 115 (9.99%)third rank with years and 107(9.29%)ranked fourth in number of citations in years. Obsolescence has been defined as the decline over time in validity or usability of information. It is found to vary from one subject to another and from one country to another and characteristics of subjects etc. It has been found that a large number of obsolescence studies have been reported in the field of science and technology than in library and information science. Conclusion Bibliometric studies do provide some guide lines for the librarians and Information scientist in the decision making process in their acquisition policy. These finding are much. helpful for librarians and information scientists while taking decision regarding collection development removing out dated documents from the shelves and also in maintaining need based collection in librarians. The following conclusions are drawn - In the year wise distribution of articles. 84 articles published from in 5 volumes containing 15 issues of the journal is presented in the table no. 1. It was seen that the number of articles published in higest in the year. - Distribution of citations in different types of information sources inpresented. It is revealed that number of citations from journal articles. 390 (33.88%) are higest than other documents. - The authorship pattern shows that 535(47.95%) of the citations are contributed by single authors and followed by two authors with 230 (19.98%) and corporate authors with 210(18.24%). - Geographical distribution of citations indicated that India done publish 28.41% followed by New York with 8.45%. - Regarding core journal in the study the first six journal titles account for 28.16% of citations.

10 British Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences 42 - The study revealed that the obsolescence or half life period of Electronic Journal of Academic & Special Librarianship. - Distribution of citations different types of information sources is presented majority of the citations are from journal articles which are higher than other documents.how ever it can be seen that social science researchers use journal articles for their research.
