The study covers issue no s 1 to 4 of volumes published from has been carried out. The present study demonstrates and elaborates the various aspects such as year-wise distribution of articles, rank of cited authors etc have been analysed. Key words: Authorship pattern, Citation analysis, length of article, Rank of cited authorship, Statewise distribution of articles. It is a quantitative study of various coverage to grain insight into the dynamics of growth of knowledge in the area under consideration. This can lead a better organisation of information sources which is essential for effective & efficient use. The first recorded study of Bibliometric topic was in 1917 by Coles & Eates with the Statistical analysis of literature of history of comparative anatomy which served as a model for apply the counting techniques in the evaluation of international activities 1.Biblometrics has attained sophistication & complexity with national, international & interdisciplinary characters. The term bibliometrics was coined by Pritchard in 1969.A pioneering example of a bibliometric study was statistical analysis of the literature of comparative anatomy from done by counting book & journal titles and grouping them by countries of origin and periods. 2.in 1923 a study was conducted by Hulume entitled statistical analysis of the History of science. The institutions may eliminate rarely cited titles from their subscription lists and also weed out unused material to save costly stocking space and reduce maintenance cost SCOPE AND PURPOSE The scope of bibliometrics includes studying the relationship with a literature (citation studies) or describing a literature typically, these descriptions focus on consistent patterns, involving authors, monographs, journals or subject / language. It is a quantitative science and it is divided into two basic categories. Description and Evaluative bibliometrics. The descriptive Bibliometrics further includes the study of the number of publications in a given field or productivity of literature in the field for the purpose of comparing the amount of production during different periods or the amount product in different subdivisions of the field. This kind of study is made by a count of the papers, books and other writings in the field or often by a count of these writings which have been abstracted in specialized abstracting journals. Evaluative Bibliometrics includes the study of literature used by research worker in a given field. Such a study is often made by counting the references cited by a large number of research workers in their papers. 3. Indian Journal of fisheries is published quarterly by the ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) ordinal contribution in the field of fish &fisheries science, which is an apex body for the promotion of agriculture research in India. ICAR has started this publication long back in 1954 with two volumes up to volume 3, volume 31 having three volumes and from volume 32 journals started publishing four volumes per year. original contribution on fish and fisheries dealing with one or more of the of the following subjects such as fishery resources and studies related to fish population and stock assessment ;fishery biology, fisheries hydrograph and limnology, fish preservation and processing and development of fishing gear and fishing methods. 3. NEED FOR THE STUDY Periodical are the indicator of literature growth in any field of knowledge. They emerged at the main channel for transmitting knowledge,due to the escalating cast of periodical and lack of adequate library budget are selection of particular journal for a library should be done carefully. Bibliometric analysis has many application in library and information science in identifying researcher tends, core journals and there by framing subscription policy for tomorrow. 4. METHODOLOGY The methodology applied in the present study it bibliometric analysis which is use to study in detail the bibliographic feature of the articles and citation analysis of the references and end of each article published in Indian journal of fisheries from thirteen volumes (vol 46 to 59and missing vol 47) containing 5 issues of IJF have been taken up for the study. The details with regard to each published articles, number of authors, name of author, number of references and their forms, number of pages etc then they are tabulated and analyzed for making observations. Data Analysis of the Study All the details such as author(s), title, year of publication, pagination, institutional affiliation, etc. of all articles published from 1999 to 212 were recorded for the following analysis. 8 editor@iaeme.com

4 Bibliometric Analysis of Indian Journal of Fisheries Year-Wise Distribution of Article Table 1 indicates the year-wise distribution of articles in the journal. The numbers differs from year to year and there is also steady increase in the number of articles from the year 1999 to 212.Out of total 868 articles, the maximum numbers of articles are in the year 212 contributing 11 articles, which are to the total publications. The minimum numbers of articles are in the year 28 with 28 articles, which are 3.22 to the total publications. The largest number of articles had more than three authors 282 (32.48). This is followed by two author 244 (27.42), three authors 238 (27.42) and single author with 14 (11.98) of the total articles. Out of citations, vol.59 has the highest number i.e., 2329 (15.22) and vol.55 has the lowest number i.e. 388 (2.53). Out of 868 contributions, the highest number, i.e., 184(23.5) has been contributed by authors from Kerela and lowest number i.e., 1 (.13) has been contributed by authors from Skkim, Pondicherry and Arunchal pradash. 7 Asifa Jan and Ridwana Ranking of contributors of articles Table 7 shows the ranking of authors/contributors of articles. In the rank list the contributors who have contributed more than 3 articles. There are a total of 6 of contributors for 868 articles. P P Manojkumar and M Dasgupta has contributed four articles whereas Sadashiv Gopal Raja contributing 3 articles. It is found that the maximum numbers of articles are in the year 212 contributing 11 articles, which are to the total publications. The analysis shows that majority of the articles in the Journal are more than three authored and majority of the contributions are from Kerala. However, journal refers to a record of events, experiences, thoughts, and observations kept on a regular basis by an individual for personal use. Writers often keep a daily journal to record ideas and material that may subsequently be incorporated into their works.
