Norton & Company, 2006). The second edition is much cheaper than the newer edition; you should be able to find an affordable used copy on Amazon.com or other online booksellers. You could also talk to any veteran of Fairview s History of the Americas classes Dr. Campbell Hale used this book for several years, and her former students may be willing to part with the copies they purchased. You are to read Chapters 1 and 2 prior to the start of school; you ll face a reading test about this material early in the year. SUMMER READING ASSIGNMENT ry Advanced Placement U.S. History Kathy Hicks H ist o Hello everyone! I'm so excited to have you all in class next year. Your World History teachers have had wonderful things to say about you and I'm looking forward to having a great year. We start off with summer reading. Because we are stretched for time, I have you guys begin with a textbook assignment. You should read chapters 1-4 from the American Pageant textbook to be picked up during registration or from your World History teacher. If you have not yet received a book, me at kathy.hicks@bvsd.org and we can work out a time to get one to you. You should take thorough notes on your reading and you will be given a reading quiz on the first day of school whereby you will be allowed to use your handwritten notes (nothing computer printed will be allowed). If there are events or people or concepts for which you have further questions after reading, your job is to pursue other resources (books, online sources, etc) to complete this task. Develop strong study skills over the summer and it will benefit you in the end! You will be tested the first week of school next year on the first four chapters. This test will be an example of all the tests you will take next year and it will simulate the AP Exam to be taken next May - 55 multiple choice questions, 4 short answer questions, a DBQ (document based question) essay and a Free Response question essay. This test will be based on your understanding of the summer reading and will be taken BEFORE we have any class discussions or lectures. Also, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have over the summer. Have a fantastic break and I'll see you in August! *THIS INFORMATION CAN ALSO BE FOUND ON MY WEBSITE. GO TO THE SCHOOL WEBSITE, ACADEMICS, DEPARTMENTS, SOCIAL STUDIES, AND KATHY HICKS. THERE YOU WILL SEE AP US HISTORY SUMMER READING ASSIGNMENT AS WELL AS APUSH (Advanced Placement United States History) CALENDAR. *BE SURE TO GET AN AMERICAN PAGEANT TEXTBOOK FROM ME AT REGISTRATION!
