No marks for answers in French. No marks for more than one answer to Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). Full marks for acceptable alternative wordings. A penalty system may apply in certain questions in order to prevent the possibility of candidates listing all the possible answers to a particular question. 9 SECTION III Written Expression 60 marks It is not necessary to penalise every inaccuracy. Give credit for quality, initiative and coherence, especially where these outweigh minor inaccuracies. An utterance need not be flawless to earn full marks. If no message is communicated, no marks should be awarded. If, because of irrelevance, the mark for Communication falls below 50%, then marks for Accuracy of Expression should be based on 50%. Tick positive elements. Underline all mistakes. If candidate does not attempt a question, put a line through page and a dash at top of page. Reasonable Accommodations: Where a candidate has been granted Reasonable Accommodation: It may not always be possible to evaluate fully spelling and certain elements of grammar. In such cases, the totality (i.e. 100%) of marks available for language/expression in written production is to be allocated to the elements of language that can be tested. Candidates who are granted a waiver in respect of grammar and spelling are to be assessed for communication only; i.e. mark communicative tasks out of 32 for the letter (ignore grammar and spelling in format, which is assessed separately) and out of 20 for the postcard / note. See pages 9 and 10 for modified mark scale. Write only marks on the script do not underline or tick work. 8
