4 Dialogue Working with the Dialogue If your class hasn t yet learnt about the five senses in English, you can teach or revise them using the Five Senses worksheet on the following page. Begin by asking your class if they know the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Tell them (or let them tell you!) that the Big Bad Wolf disguises himself as Little Red s Granny. Does he look like her Granny? Why/why not? How can she recognise him? You can use the colouring pages from the back of the Teacher s Pack to compare and contrast, and write some of your ideas on the white board. Now, tell your class that you are going to listen to a conversation between Little Red and the Wolf, when he is disguised as her Granny. Play the dialogue to find out how she recognises him. At the end of the conversation the wolf takes off his disguise and he wants to eat Little Red! Does he eat her or can she escape? How do they think the story ends? Listen again and this time your class must point to the parts of the body (eyes, ears, nose, hands, teeth) when they hear them on the recording. Finally, read the text yourself and omit the key words (body parts and five senses), letting your class fill in the gaps in chorus. If they can learn this conversation they will be able to join in during the show!!! 2014 Face 2 Face Theatre Company 11
The Five Senses Do you know the five senses in English? Draw a line to match each picture with the correct word. 1 2 Hands Eyes Teeth Ears? Nose Now use the words to fill in the gaps below! We use our... to see We use our... to hear We use our... to smell We use our... to touch We use our... to eat, and it tastes good! 2014 Face 2 Face Theatre Company 12

Red and yellow and pink and green Purple and orange and blue I can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow too Face 2 Face Theatre Company 13
The Story 6 Every Saturday, Little Red walks to her Granny s house on Main Street. She likes visiting her Granny. Granny has a cat called Mittens, and she makes chocolate chip cookies! I m going to see my Granny replies Red Where does she live? Asks the wolf. Stop! Stranger danger. I m sorry, I can t tell you says Red. And she continues walking Face 2 Face Theatre Company 14
6 The Story The wolf disguises himself as a flower seller. Red buys some flowers for her Granny. They are lots of different colours: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and pink. She tells the flower seller her Granny s address, so that he can deliver the flowers: 208, Main Street, Apartment 10D. Red 2014 Face 2 Face Theatre Company 15
The Story The wolf runs to Granny s house. She s not at home! The wolf goes inside and disguises himself as Red s Granny. Red arrives. She looks at the wolf. 6 Granny, what big eyes you have! All the better to see you with! says the wolf. Granny, what big ears you have! All the better to hear you with! the wolf. Granny, what a big nose you have! All the better to smell you with! says the wolf. Granny, what big hands you have! All the better to hug you with says the wolf. Granny, what big teeth you have! All the better to eat you with! says the wolf Face 2 Face Theatre Company 16
6 The Story The wolf chases Little Red. But she is very clever. She tricks him and pushes him into the oven Just then, Granny gets home, and they all eat chocolate chip cookies just like any other Saturday Face 2 Face Theatre Company 17
6 Story Lesson These activities use the text from the previous page, together with the recording of the story on Audio Track 6. Create interest Colour in and show your class some of the colouring pages from the back of the story pack. Ask them questions: Who is this? What are these? What do they think the story is about? Pre-teach vocabulary Look through the storytelling text and pre-teach any words you think your children might find difficult and which have not been dealt with elsewhere in the Teacher s Pack. Tell the story We have included a recording for you, however you are likely to get better results by reading the story aloud yourself, adapting to your class s needs and engaging with them in a way that a recording cannot do. Please feel welcome to edit the text according to your class s age and ability. As you read, try to include as many actions and sound effects as you can, to bring the story to life. You can also use pictures from this pack to illustrate key words. When you have finished, ask your class what characters were in the story. What do they think happened? Who is Little Red going to visit? Who does she meet? What does the wolf want to do? Total Physical Response Now tell the story again, and this time encourage your class to join in with the sounds and the actions, responding to the words they hear. Eliciting the story Now that your class are familiar with the story, it is their turn to tell it on their own! Re-read the story with your class, complete with the sound effects and actions you have already established. This time, however, omit as many as possible of the key words. Instead of saying the word yourself, do an action, eliciting the word from you class. They must respond with the word in chorus. This will test not only their English, but also their memory! Use all of the stimuli that you can to help the students, and be prepared to adapt this activity for their level; older children or those with a higher level of English may be able to manage many missing words or even large chunks of text by themselves, especially material which has been worked on elsewhere in the story pack. The focus is on boosting their confidence and improving their understanding of the story! 2014 Face 2 Face Theatre Company 18
6 Comprehension Eliciting the story Look at these pictures and put them in order writing a number (1-6) in each box. Phrase Sequencing Now read these sentences and put them in order writing a number (1-7) in each box. The wolf disguises himself as Granny Little Red is walking to her Granny s house Granny, what big teeth you have! says Little Red Granny gets home The wolf disguises himself as a flower seller The wolf runs to Granny s house She meets a Big Bad Wolf! 2014 Face 2 Face Theatre Company 19

7 Extension Activities Chocolate Chip Cookies! Red s Granny loves making chocolate chip cookies. Listen to her song Cookie Boogie (Audio track 7), which is a recipe for making cookies. Ask your students to listen out for the ingredients and together, make a list of what you need on the white board. Then listen to the song again to find out how to put the ingredients together. Now your class can use Granny s recipe to make your very own chocolate chip cookies! Chocolate Chip Cookies (Granny s Recipe) Ingredients: - Butter - Sugar - Flour - Chocolate chips - Eggs Recipe Writing When you have finished making (and eating!) your cookies, ask your class to write a neat copy of the chocolate chip cookie recipe to take home, so that they don t forget it and they can make chocolate chip cookies whenever they want to Face 2 Face Theatre Company 22
