ABOUT THE BOOK Collecting quotes and misquotes has always fascinated me and has been my hobby ever since I was very young. They have been reflected in my paradigms and values. In school and college days, they were from Panjabi, Persian, Urdu and English writers and poets. The source of Panjabi quotes was stories and traditions which got encapsulated as quotes. They were handed down orally, generation to generation and got engrained into my consciousness by hearing them over and over again. By the time I left Government College, Lahore, my collection covered three notebooks. Unfortunately they were all left behind in Pakistan. But my interest in this hobby has not flagged. In the last few years, I have been saving them and interesting anecdotes in my laptop. I have made liberal use of World Wide Web in this endeavour. Many friends and family members have contributed by suggesting their favorite quotes, thoughts and tips. Quotations are used for a variety of reasons: to support an argument, to pay homage, as a means of inspiration or to invoke a stream of thoughts in the minds of listeners or readers. They are often used in diaries, calendars, newspapers and magazines for entertainment or inspiration. They may be adages, aphorisms, clichés, epigrams, maxims or proverbs. Some use them in their visiting card for spreading their beliefs, views and ideas. Misquotations generally harmless is often used

by speakers and writers to emphasise a point or idea because they find it convenient and suitable. Unfortunately at times vested interests have coinedmisquotations by twisting and even inventing words of famous personalities to promote their own ends. I have presented Quotes, Misquotes and Anecdotes in 2 volumes. They are meant to be informative, entertaining and thought-provoking books, an enjoyable leisure reading and useful for anyone interested in quotations or misquotations for any reason. This volume (Volume 1) covers: LIVING OR JUST EXISTING (ART OF LIVING, ENVIRONMENT, HUMOUR AND HAPPINESS). Lastly, a word of advice: Be careful who and what you quote! M.M.LUTHER

LIVING OR JUST EXISTING ART OF LIVING QUOTES AND MISQUOTES 'Never frown, even when you are sad, because you never know who is falling in love with your smile. ' The task ahead of you is never as great as the power behind you. The value of a man or woman resides in what he or she gives, not in what he or she is capable of receiving... The truest expression of a people is in its dance and its music. Bodies never lie. Age does not protect you from love. But love, to some extent, protects you from age. "All the beautiful sentiments in the world weigh less than a single lovely action." "Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced."--soren Kierkegaard Dwell not upon thy weariness, they strength shall be according to the measure of your desire arab proverb Men in general desire the good, and not merely what their fathers had-aristotle- I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who overcomes his enemies- Aristotle Let your desires be ruled by reason-cicero "The only good luck many great men ever had was being born with the ability and determination to overcome bad luck. - Channing Pollock "If only we wanted to be happy, it would be easy; but we want to be happier than other people, which is difficult, Quotes, Misquotes and Anecdotes...Vol.1 / 9

since we think them happier than they are." Monesquieu "Fools look to tomorrow; wise men use tonight." - Scottish Proverb "Action may not always bring happiness; but there is n o happiness without action." - Benjamin Disraeli "We have to do the best we can. This is our sacred human responsibility." - Albert Einstein "Every life has its dark and cheerful hours. Happiness comes from choosing which to remember." - Sol Gordon "The mere sense of living is joy enough." - Emily Dickinson "Never underestimate the power of hard work" - Alicia Keys "What will I do today, that my children will need therapy for tomorrow?" - Ronda Philp "May your memories never die- let them lead you to be a bigger and better person by learning from their lessons." - Rhonda Page "Smile!! Because your smile is the sunshine that lights your day..!!" -Alia Syarifiah "Where ever you go, there you are." Unknown "If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.." "Trust on God! But tie your camel." - HazratAli The Noblest vengeance is forgiveness. Be always at war with your vices, make peace with your neighbours. Benjamin Franklin The pursuit of happiness is the chase of a lifetime! It is never too late to become what you might have been. Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Forget about the ones who don't. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it. The 10 commandments are not a multiple choice. Quotes, Misquotes and Anecdotes...Vol.1 / 10

'Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.' Asharp tongue can cut your own throat. If you want your dreams to come true, you mustn't oversleep. Of all the things you wear, your expression is the most important. The best vitamin for making friends... B1. The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts. The heaviest thing you can carry is a grudge. One thing you can give and still keep...is your word. You lie the loudest when you lie to yourself. If you lack the courage to start, you have already finished. One thing you can't recycle is wasted time. Ideas won't work unless ' You' do. When things go bad, always remember: It could be worse. Never, never give up. Keep working on your speech and your life. Never lose your sense of humour. Laugh at yourself, laugh with others. Stem depression by thinking of reaching out to and helping others. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Pray, not for God to cure you but to help you help yourself. There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them." ---Denis Waitley If a window of opportunity appears, don't pull down the shade. A hammer sometimes misses its mark a bouquet never Quotes, Misquotes and Anecdotes...Vol.1 / 11

To err is human; to admit it, superhuman. Early to bed and early to rise and you'll never meet the rich and famous. If at first you don't succeed, deny you were even trying. The darkest hour is just before you're overdrawn. People who live in glass houses have faded sofas. The greatest pleasure I know is to do a good action by stealth and have it found out by accident. Fish for no compliments: they are generally caught in shallow water. How a man plays the game shows something of his character; how he loses shows all of it. "Often people attempt to live their lives backwards: they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want so they will be happier. The way it actually works is the reverse. You must first be who you really are, then do what you love to do, in order to have what you want."-- Margaret Young "Who does not thank for little will not thank for much."- - Estonian proverb If your heart acquires strength, you will be able to remove blemishes from others without thinking evil of them. - Mahatma Gandhi An invasion of armies can be resisted but not an idea whose time has come. - Victor Hugo Creativity is a type of learning process where the teacher and pupil are located in the same individual. - Arthur Koestler Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm- Winston Churchill "A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles." Christopher Reeve 'You create your own universe as you go along' - Winston Churchill Quotes, Misquotes and Anecdotes...Vol.1 / 12

People are like stained glass windows: they sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when darkness sets in; their true nature is revealed only if there is light within. If you want your dreams to come true, don't oversleep. The smallest good deed is better than the grandest intention. Of all the things you wear, your expression is the most important. Ideas won't work unless YOU do. One thing you can't recycle is wasted time. The heaviest thing to carry is a grudge. Don't learn safety rules by accident. Jumping to conclusions can be bad exercise. Everyone has a photographic memory, some just don't have film. Aday without laughter is a day wasted. Courage is the price that life enacts for granting peace. Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there. When everything comes in your way you're in the wrong lane. Life is unsure; always eat your dessert first. Smile, it makes people wonder what you are thinking. If you keep your feet firmly on the ground, you'll have trouble putting on your pants. It's not hard to meet expenses, they are everywhere. I love being a writer... what I can't stand is the paperwork. Life is a do-it-for-others, do-it-yourself project. Life is not accountable to us for meaning; we are accountable to life! Everything that is past is either a learning experience to grow on, a beautiful memory to reflect on, or a motivating Quotes, Misquotes and Anecdotes...Vol.1 / 13

factor to act upon. You have been given the greatest power in the world, the power to choose. Giant oaks do grow from little acorns; but first you must have an acorn! By thinking and acting affirmatively in this minute, you will influence the hour, the day, and in time, your entire life. You are your own scriptwriter and the play is never finished, no matter what your age or position in life. Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else. Life is like pulling a dog sled. If you're not the head dog, the scenery doesn't change much. Work like you don't need the money, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like no one is watching. Every thought we think is creating our future. The point of power is always in the present moment. We create every so-called illness in our body. We must release the past and forgive everyone. We must be willing to begin to learn to love ourselves. When we really love ourselves, everything in our life works. Use the power of imagination to create what you want in life. Life is an exciting business, and most exciting when it is lived for others. Journey of thousand miles begins one step. I have a love affair with life. If it were not for the rocks in its bed, the stream would have no song. When you see a good man, think of emulating him; when you see a bad man, examine your own heart. God gets weary of great kingdom but never of little flowers. You cannot walk with your eyes on the stars when Quotes, Misquotes and Anecdotes...Vol.1 / 14
