Jason: I admit, you have intelligence; but, to recount How helpless passion drove you then to save my life Would be invidious; and I will not stress the point. Your services, so far as they went, were well enough; But in return for saving me you got far more Than you gave. People who dress up for an occasion, or put on a show to match their possessions, are only reminding themselves of their own rank. I tell you, Megadorus, we poor men don t keep up a state above our station. Megado rus: Enough is enough, I agree; and may the gods make it so for you. May they ever preserve for you that which you now hold. Euclio [a side]: That which I now hold! I don t like the sound of that. He knows what I ve got as well as I do myself. The old woman has blabbed, I knew she would. Megadorus [seeing him distracted]: You seem to have withdrawn from the debate? Euclio: I have. I was meditating how I could bring an action against you Plautus, The Pot of Gold, p.31 4 (a) That which I now hold! (line 6). What does Euclio think Megadorus is referring to?
