5 ABSTRACT The title of this paper is Semiotic in Minions Memes. The discussion of this study is focused on the analysis of the meaning and function of five most popular minion memes in despicablememinions.org ( Kevin meme, Dave meme, Jorge meme, Stuart meme, Bob meme). The data source of this study was taken from The theory from Saussure about semiotics and Chandler about semiotics and signs are used to analyze the first problem about meaning and function of each meme. In analyzing the meaning of the memes, the features of each memes were analyzed using semiotic theory from Saussure. Next, the function of each memes in the post was analyzed using the theory from Chandler. The results show that memes in despicablememinions.org are in the form of human being facial expressions that has specific features for each memes. From the features or the signifiers of the memes, the signified or abstract concept from each of them can be known, and it leads to the meaning of each memes. For example, the features or signifiers of Kevin meme are different from the Bob meme and the other memes that have their own special features or signifiers. This causes different signified leads to different meaning. The function of this memes is showed up clearly toward the utterances that used on the post.
