1 THEATER BUS For the Over 55s January February 2019 Theater Bus, Inc. is a nonprofit organization committed to enriching the quality of life for all adults over 55 residing in the greater Madison community by providing safe, affordable, escorted outings to theatrical, cultural and social events. Bring on the New Year Happy New Year! We are excited to begin another year of scenic bus rides, making new friends, dining at fine restaurants, seeing great shows and supporting community theaters in Wisconsin and beyond. as they perform authentic folk music of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Czech Republic. Come thirsty and hungry for the tapping of the Fasching Keg and the delicious buffet of German dishes! We will kick off 2019 at the Palace Theater in the Dells with the heavenly musical hit, Forever Plaid. You are sure to enjoy this fun revue chocked-full of classic barbershop quartet harmonies and pitch-perfect melodies of nostalgic pop hits of the 50 s. Our second pick for January is for all Agatha Christie fans. We are headed to Sunset Playhouse in Elm Grove, WI to see A Murder is Announced. This is a classic Miss Marple mystery. The plot is unbeatably intriguing. Don t miss this fun whodunit. We will have lunch at the Western Lakes Golf Club in Pewaukee before the show. Once again, it s time to Go Dorfin in Johnsonville, WI. Please join us for our favorite February event, the Fasching Dinner Celebration Show. This will be our 12th trip to this event at Laack s Ballroom. We keep coming back for more. You are promised a lively afternoon of entertainment by the Dorf Kapelle band Next up is another favorite, Lend Me A Tenor. This is one of the most-produced contemporary farces. Don t miss our trip to the Palace Theater in the Dells for this popular musical comedy. Set in 1934, the wacky story and hilarious shenanigans in Lend Me a Tenor provide an escape into laugh out loud comedy land. The one-liners, mistaken identities, and slapstick transport you directly into the films of Charlie Chaplin and the Marx Brothers. Enclosed with this bulletin is our year end appeal. Your tax deductible donation will brighten the life of an older adult and support the arts! Thank you for choosing Theater Bus. Best wishes for 2019! ~ Bonnie P.S. Our office will be closed December. 24 through January 1, We will open Jan. 2, Make a Year End Gift Please keep us in mind when you are making your year-end gifts. Theater Bus is an independent non-profit organization. We rely on the generosity of our friends and participants to support our work. Your year end gift enables us to provide Madison area seniors with opportunities to socialize with others while enjoying affordable day trips to plays, musicals, comedies, boat cruises, mystery trips and fine restaurants.
2 1 Forever Plaid & Lunch Date: Wednesday, January 16, 2019 Price: $80 Place: Palace Theater in the Dells Time: Lunch/Show: 12:00/1:00 p.m. Deadline: Dec. 14 9:45 a.m. West (Oakwood Village) 10:00 a.m. West (Cov. Pres. Church) 10:30 a.m. East (East Towne Shopko) Estim. Return to West: 4:30 p.m. Forever Plaid celebrates the delightfully goofy reincarnation of four male singers killed in a car crash on the way to their first big concert and now, miraculously, revived for a plaid-fabulous time for audiences everywhere. Singing in the closest of harmony, squabbling boyishly over the smallest intonations, the Plaids are guaranteed to smash with a series of well-loved songs and right-on patter that keep you laughing when you aren t humming along to some of the great nostalgic pop hits of the 50s. Lunch at the Palace is Tenderloin Beef Medallions over bed of Wild Rice. Dessert is Rainbow Sorbet. *The menu is subject to change without notice. 2 A Murder is Announced & Lunch Date: Sunday, January 27, 2019 Price: $ 76 Place: Sunset Playhouse, Elm Grove, WI Time: Lunch/Show: 11:15/2:00 p.m. Deadline: Jan. 4 9:15 a.m. West (Theater Bus Office) 9:30 a.m. West (Oakwood Village) 10:00 a.m. East (East Towne Shopko) Estim. Return to East side: 6:00 p.m. An announcement in the local paper states the time and place of a murder to occur in Miss Blacklock's Victorian house. The victim is not one of the home's occupants, but an unexpected and unknown visitor. What follows is a classic Christie puzzle of mixed motives, concealed identities, a second death, a determined Inspector grimly following the twists and turns, and Miss Marple on hand to provide the solution, at some risk to herself in a dramatic confrontation just before the final curtain. Lunch at Western Lakes Golf Club is your choice of: *Grilled Chicken or *Crab Stuffed Sole or *BBQ Ribs 1/4 rack Dessert is chef s choice. We thank the Pleasant T. Rowland Foundation for their generous donation to underwrite the cost of printing this newsletter. This newsletter is printed by Thysse Printing Service.
3 3 Fasching Celebration Dinner Show Date: Sunday, February 10, 2019 Price: $70 Place: Laack s Ballroom Sheboygan Falls, WI Time: Lunch/Show: 12:00/1:00 p.m. Deadline: Jan. 18 8:45 a.m. West (Theater Bus Office) 9:00 a.m. West (Oakwood Village) 9:30 a.m. East (East Towne Shopko) Estim. Return to East side: 5:45 p.m. 4 Lend Me a Tenor & Lunch Date: Wednesday, February 27, 2019 Price: $81 Place: Palace Theater in the Dells Time: Lunch/Show: 12:00/1:00 p.m. Deadline: Dec. 14 9:45 a.m. West (Oakwood Village) 10:00 a.m. West (Cov. Pres. Church) 10:30 a.m. East (East Towne Shopko) Estim. Return to West side: 4:30 p.m. No matter what you call it, many cultures throughout the world celebrate the pre-lenten season with elaborate celebrations and revelry. Whether intended as one last fling before the fasting and austerity of lent or just to scare away the evil spirits of winter, we gather together at Laack's Hall in Johnsonville. The performance begins with the tapping of the Fasching keg (Look Out For The Spray). Sit back and enjoy as the Dorf Kapelle band entertains you with more than two hours of great music. There will be door prizes too! Buffet menu: Smoked Pork Chops, Goulash, German Potato Salad, Mashed Potatoes, Sweet Sour Red Cabbage, Mixed Vegetables, dessert and beverage. The riotous tale of mistaken identities and unexpected romance explodes in this brand new musical comedy based on the Tony award nominated play. It s 1934 and Opera virtuoso Tito Merelli is about to revive Pagliacci for the ten-year anniversary of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company. When Tito becomes unexpectedly incapacitated, a replacement must be found. Max, the Opera Director s sheepish assistant, is charged with the daunting task of finding a suitable replacement. Who is cavalier enough to replace him? With the help of a menacing soprano, a tenor-struck ingénue, a jealous wife, and the Cleveland Police department, mayhem, lunacy and shear panic ensue, but in the end, the show must always go on. Lunch at the Palace is Chicken & Dumplings and baked potato. Dessert is Rainbow Sorbet. *The menu is subject to change without notice. The Theater Bus mission is supported by Oakwood Village University Woods. We thank them for their belief in our organization.
