It was capped off with the great offering by our Music Theatre students of CURTAINS The Musical Comedy Whodunit. Each audience was wowed by the professional and talented shows. Thank you to teachers Jess and Jono and also to Tony and Matt and all the behind the scenes supporters. Val Leftwich, our Youth Theatre Administrator, is in charge of enrolments for 08 but is away overseas until 5th January. If you have any questions about next year s classes please wait until after that date and then contact her on or valleftwich4@gmail.com. Classes do not start until school resumes so there will be plenty of time to organize places. Our Orientation Day will be on January 0th and we will advertise the format for the morning a week before. Everyone at Spotlight Youth Theatre wish all our families a safe and happy holiday and look forward to catching up with you in 08. 8 AUDITIONS MONDAY JANUARY 5th AT 7:00 p.m. For Information or an Audition Pack please BASKERVILLE A Sherlock Holmes Mystery is a mystery not for the faint of heart nor faint of wit. In the style of 39 Steps, which was highly applauded by Spotlight Basement patrons, the twists turn and the turns twist and Arthur won't know if he's Martha or Sherlock Holmes. 40 characters, not nearly as many actors... and a whole lot of fun! If you like your acting flexible and your scene changes whip fast, this is the play for you. The audition will involve some improvisation exercises followed by cold reads of script excerpts. Cast size determined by audition process, at least female and males required. 9 Farewell to Spotlight GOLDEN GIRLS The Spotlight Golden Girls have decided to hang up their dancing shoes, and give their voices a rest after 7 years performing for Nursing Home residents and Senior Citizens. The Girls have been performing since 990 when Isabel Williams and Pauline Davies decided to resurrect a group of ladies from Spotlight who had been performing in the s and call them the Spotlight Golden Girls. To the present time they have been doing this minus the "girls" who have passed on or are unable to perform and replacing them with new faces and new talents. Over the years the Golden Girls have been great embassadors for The Spotlight Theatrical Company and brought much joy, humour and respect to their audiences. They have also staged Benefit performances at Spotlight to help with funds on many occasions. A Morning Tea at the theatre to celebrate their wonderful contribution to society and Spotlight was organised and provided by Patricia Drew on Wednesday 3th December. Thank You Patsy. It was great to see so many of the early as well as recent members at the Farewell. Thank You Golden Girls you will be missed. 13 PRESIDENT S REPORT I hope that you have an enjoyable and relaxing Christmas and are refreshed for the year ahead. HAPPY NEW YEAR. As usual the company has scheduled a hectic but exciting year for 08. In the year that the Gold Coast hosts the Commonwealth Games we had to rejig the usual dates of shows so that our patrons were not inconvenienced travelling to the theatre. Our last production of the year was performed by our High School Musical students. What an outstanding performance of Curtains our students put on. Congratulations to the teachers on bringing out the amazing talent of these students. The energy and enthusiasm of the students shone through. Well done to all. Some of these students have now graduated from Youth Theatre and I wish them every success in their chosen careers. Our Annual Spotlight on Christmas showcased just some of the amazing talent that has graced the Spotlight Theatre stage over the years alongside some very special guests Bob La Castra and Drew Anthony & Friends and Santa. A fabulous night of entertainment and I would like to thank all the artists for giving of their time to entertain us and providing a memorable evening. I would like to thank all the people and companies that donated over $3600 worth of prizes for our Monster Raffle Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to all of you for supporting this raffle that raised $80 so that we can now get the air-conditioning improved in the Basement Theatre. A very appreciative thanks goes to Erica Graham who coordinated and procured the donations for this raffle. Unfortunately, the Golden Girls have performed their last show. Thank you to all our wonderful Golden Performers for providing such a valuable service entertaining those that are unable to get to the theatre. We all appreciate what you have done over many years and wish you all the best. The first production of 08 Snow White commences on the January 3 through to January 3 in the Basement Theatre. This will be great fun for the children and grandchildren so book your tickets now. The Main Theatre sees the cast busy rehearsing for the blockbuster Oliver! which opens on February 9. We enjoyed a preview of the kids singing Food Glorious Food at Spotlight on Christmas so please book early online to avoid missing out on this wonderful show. I would like to thank the Committee for their commitment to make the Theatre the best it can be and 08 looks like another busy but exciting year ahead for The Spotlight Theatrical Company.
