2 Spotlight on Youth Theatre YOU Teaching fraternity & ADMINISTRATORS: HANNAH CROWTHER (Int. Drama & Snr. Music Theatre Teacher) MATT PEARSON (Snr Music Theatre Assistant & M.D.) TERRI WOODFINE (Primary Teacher) JACY MOORE (Film & TV Teacher) Val LEFTWICH (YT Administrator) KAY HAWKER (YT Accounts) Early December we were all treated to a wonderful Junior Drama production Bedtime Stories that was written and directed by Terri Woodfine our Junior Drama teacher. Terri and Hannah have worked really hard on this production and it was evident that the students were really enjoying the experience. The scenery was minimal and the students had to use their imagination and portray this to the audience, it was really well done. The students learned how to use props and have them in the right place at the right time a great learning experience for them. The production was followed closely by the Intermediate and Senior Music Theatre students producing Seussical Jr. and Legally Blonde Jr. This was a huge event with both productions on the same night for four performances. It was a great success and very evident that we have some amazing talent coming up through the classes of Spotlight Youth Theatre. At the end of the productions we had presentations and also graduations. Students who reach the age of 8 by the st January 09 leave Spotlight Youth Theatre and this is always a sad event. Some of the 9 students had been with us since Junior Drama and this is always difficult for the teachers and myself. I have come to know these students and their parents and although I know I will see them in future productions at Spotlight and hopefully other theatres, it is still a loss for Spotlight. We wish them well and they know if they want to come back to attend the occasional class they are most welcome. I have sent out forms for 09 and I ask that everyone who wants to take up a place in 09 complete the new forms. I would point out that some of our classes are getting extremely full and even if you are in a class now, we will not be able to hold the place unless we have a 09 form returned to me. Please do not return to Shirley or Kay, they have to forward them on and that is where forms can get lost. If you do not have a form please me on valleftwich4@gmail.com and I will make sure you get it. A big thank you to the parents who have already sent in their forms as this saves me so much time. From Kay and myself we take this opportunity to wish all of you a very happy Festive Season and thank you for your co-operation during the year. 11 Happy New Year to you all. PRESIDENT S REPORT I hope that you have a restful and enjoyable Christmas and are able to catch up with those that are nearest and dearest to you. The theatre as always has a full playbill in 09 and is the busiest community theatre on the Gold Coast. Our year begins in the Basement Theatre with Spark and the Crystal Crusade created and directed by Aiden Ossovani and Millie Talbot. This pantomime, with lots of audience participation, opens on Wednesday 9 January with two performances a day at 0.30am and pm. Great Family entertainment! The first 09 Musical opens on Friday 8 February in The Halpin Auditorium and is Disney's The Little Mermaid co-directed by William Pulley and Rodrigo Medina Noël. The show is deep in rehearsal and those that attended Spotlight on Christmas were rewarded by getting a sneak preview of this cast performing. Our Youth Theatre Orientation Day is being held on Sunday 0 January in The Halpin Auditorium. A big thank you to Jamie Watt and Tenéle Graham for all their efforts creating and making Spotlight on Christmas a great night of entertainment. Thank you also to Erica Graham for the outstanding achievement to get over 50 prizes for our raffle. The full list of prize winners is published in this edition of The Spotlighter.
