1 WHAT S ON AT WELLS MALTINGS SPRING 2019 Arts Heritage Community SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE! Box Office: wellsmaltings.org.uk ft

2 A WARM WELCOME TAKE A LOOK AT THE WELLS COMMUNITY TAPESTRY The Wells Community is full of talented seamstresses, embroiderers, knitters, appliqué and textile artists who bring together our heritage and spirit of place and who tell a story of the handiwork of the women along the coast who knitted ganseys, sewed naval uniforms and looked after the clothing for their families. These simple acts of love translated into a tapestry created by 37 Community Groups that represent Wells-next-the-Sea. This wonderful work is now on display around the building in the café and bar, Clore Community Space, Fourth Space and other areas. Take time to have a look at this terrific tapestry when you re here next and pick up a leaflet to find out more. Welcome to the new season brochure for Wells Maltings, taking you on a journey of wonder, enjoyment and discovery from January through to April Since opening our doors fully in July 2018, tens of thousands of visitors have joined us in connecting with the arts, heritage and each other. Responses to the building, our exhibitions and our programme of events have been overwhelmingly warm and positive, and community spaces are filling nicely with a heady mix of everything from yoga and Zumba to birthday parties. This season, I m proud to present the very best in theatre, music, family events, talks and entertainment world class events for a world class venue. Jockeying for your attention are such gems as top children s illustrator Nick Sharratt, the hugely fun and talented musical exploits of Bowjangles, a celebration of a pioneer of electronica, joys of musical theatre, Shakespearean icons, Wagner opera live, our own stand-up comedy club and a touch of baroque. We are particular proud of two new artistic partnerships - a co-production with Up The Road Theatre for Peril at Sea, and a new residency from the internationally renowned Villiers Quartet. The Wells Heritage Centre gears up for a new year of interactivity and discovery, and you can always immerse yourself and enjoy the very best visual art in our Handa Gallery. To keep our film programme as current as possible, we ll be issuing regular bulletins featuring the latest film titles in Wells Maltings stateof-the-art auditorium, and our partnership with Screen-next-the-Sea continues to grow through their twicemonthly screening nights. If you want to make the most of your support, please consider joining the Maltings family as a Friend or Patron.
