The Drowsy Chaperone The curtain rises on a present-day musical theatre fanatic eager to tell you about his favorite Broadway musical -- The Drowsy Chaperone. He s the ultimate everyfan and Drowsy is his guilty pleasure. To chase his blues away, a modern-day musical theatre addict known simply as Man in Chair drops the needle on his favorite LP the 1928 musical comedy The Drowsy Chaperone. From the crackle of his hi-fi, the uproariously funny musical magically bursts to life on stage, telling the tale of a pampered Broadway starlet who wants to give up show business to get married, her producer who sets out to sabotage the nuptials, her chaperone, the debonair groom, the flaky chorine, the Latin lover and a pair of gangsters who double as pastry chefs. Man in Chair's infectious love of The Drowsy Chaperone speaks to anyone who has ever been transported by the theatre. Music and Lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison Book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar

From the Director There s a certain magic when it comes to theatre, and for me, this is especially true when it comes to musicals. Several years ago, I stumbled upon The Drowsy Chaperone and it was love at first listen. I had no idea what the story about, I just knew I loved this music. The soundtrack became, and still is, a staple in the stash of CDs (yes, CDs) I have in my car. I could listen to this show s music over and over without ever getting bored of it. That s when I knew I had to bring this show to LSC, so more people could fall in love with the songs, and the madcap characters just as I did. I would like to thank our zany cast of characters, and our wonderful production crew for their hard work over the past couple of months. Many thanks to our choreographer Margie, who made our cold feets hot; our vocal director Brian, who made sure we showed off our voices; our orchestra director Jeanne, who made sure our music was always lovely; and our producer Jill, who made sure nothing was an accident waiting to happen! Thanks also to anyone who contributed their time and effort to this production in any way, shape, or form. We couldn t do this without you! In the words of the Man in Chair, The Drowsy Chaperone does what a musical is supposed to do: it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head A little something for when you re feeling blue. I hope this show does just that for you; I hope it takes you to another place, and gives you a little tune to carry with you. Thank you for being here and supporting community theatre. Carissa Sloan, Director

From the Cast & Crew I am happy to be returning to LSC in my eleventh show here in the Drowsy Chaperone. I am playing Mrs. Tottendale, and I am grateful to be having fun with many of my old friends at Loveland! Cathy Alter Mrs. Tottendale Being a part of The Drowsy Chaperone means getting to take on a role I've wanted to play for over 10 years. I've been hooked on this show ever since the day I saw it on Broadway and I am grateful that Carissa gave me the opportunity to see my dream become a reality. I am so proud of the cast I get to share the stage with and I hope they're having as much fun as I am. Megan Archibald - Kitty From the very beginning of rehearsals The Drowsy Chaperone is keeping us all in stitches and we all need to laugh. Carissa Sloan has put together a very talented cast. Margie has, once again, choreographed some fabulous dance numbers. This show is a lot of fun and will definitely put a smile on your face. Come and enjoy. Jill Gornet - Producer Being cast in Drowsy has allowed me to explore the dancer in me. I have always dreamed of being a suave dancer ala Fred Astaire. There are a couple routines that are reminiscent of the old silver screen choreography. It has been a challenging rehearsal process, learning the steps, singing a song, and acting. But it has allowed me to grow and find some new things out about myself. The cast and crew are a fantastic group of people to work with. Everyone has been supportive and that makes a strong cast. Micheal R. Kiser- Robert Martin It is great to be in this happy cast that includes some old friends. Everyone is really putting their all into the show. Personally, working with the cast and being creative is something that I always appreciated about shows at LSC. Drowsy is no different. The idea is to create enthusiasm and that shines through as we get closer to show time. The cast is sharing laughs and working hard to make everything right. Carissa is doing a fine job directing us while still allowing us to create within our roles. Dave Marcus - Feldzieg

From the Cast & Crew It s been an amazing experience working at the Loveland Stage Company especially under Margie's excellent tutelage as a choreographer. Who would have thought I put on on January 1st, 2019 my first ever pair of tap shoes. Joshua Marcus - George I am very excited to be in Drowsy Chaperone, my first of what I hope is many shows with Loveland Stage Company. It s a thrill for me to be able to perform alongside of some very talented people!! The show is high energy and a whole lot of fun! The audience will love it!! Joseph Moreland - Underling Being a part of The Drowsy Chaperone has been a hope of mine for a long time. It's such a fun show, especially getting to play the role of Aldolpho. There aren't many musical comedies with characters that push the boundaries in so many directions like this one. With such a strong cast and crew, this show is exceeding my every expectation. Tom Morris Aldolpho This is my 26th show (79th overall) with Loveland Stage Company and each show is as exciting as my first. To see a director and cast take the printed word and breathe life into those words and the characters is always an amazing thing to see. As a Lighting Designer, my job is to enhance the mood the director has created, to at times create a visual effect, such as lightning, car headlights or camera flashes that are not usually found inside a building and to enhance the spoken word. Gregory Carl Smith Lighting Design

Loveland Stage Company is made up of a diverse mix of people. Families, youth, not so youth with one thing in common, the love of theater. This section highlights us. SPOTLIGHT ON JILL GORNET When and how did I become involved at LSC: I became involved with LSC over 4 years ago. My son, John Sloan, talked me into auditioning for Fiddler On The Roof. I auditioned and made the ensemble. Such a wonderful experience with a very talented cast and Director. When I m not at the theater, what do I do: When I m not at the theater, I sing in Sharonville Chorus, a group of singers who are all over 50. We sing at retirement and assisted living residences. It is so much fun and such dear sweet people who all LOVE to sing. I also babysit my grandchildren two days a week and it s so wonderful to see life through their eyes. They ve brought me so much joy and love. Why theater? Why LSC?: I love theater and always have since high school. LSC was first a place to go see my son in a theater production. Then I grew to love the atmosphere and the quality of work they produced. Once I got involved at LSC, I knew I could pursue my love of the theater there. It s always nice to pretend to be someone else. What have I been involved in at LSC: I have been on stage four times at LSC. Fiddler on the Roof (Rifka/chorus), Will Rogers Follies (quartet), White Christmas (Quintet/asst seamstress/ensemble) and have just been seen in MEMPHIS (Clara/ensemble). I worked in sound booth for Cabaret. Was co-producer for Don t Drink The Water and A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To the Forum, which I won an Orchid for. The Drowsy Chaperone is my first solo producing gig. Where do I see LSC in 10 years: I see LSC as always producing quality work. They re always open and helpful to new directors with awesome new ideas. They may have a few classics now and then, but they re on board and open to the latest plays. What would I like to say to LSC and the members: There is nothing more wonderful than portraying a character on stage and working on music, dance and dialogue. Sure there is stress, but there is also the costumes, the makeup, the fun, the friendship and the love of the stage. Thank you to those who work tirelessly whether it s on stage or in the background. Thank you to all the members for their support. LSC is a great theater.
