2 California Highlights California - Germany 2012 Issue S3 German tour operators reported 2012 second quarter bookings to California increased 10 to 15 percent, on average, compared to second quarter 2011 bookings. Summer bookings to California were reported by the Germany trade to increase 4 to 9 percent compared to summer 2011 bookings. The majority of respondents projected fourth quarter bookings to remain higher. However, one quarter of the trade projected bookings to be flat year over year for the fourth quarter. 3 California Second Quarter 2012 Bookings German tour operators reported 2012 second quarter bookings to California increased 10 to 15 percent, on average, compared to second quarter 2011 bookings to the state. More than four out of five (85%) respondents reported an increase in bookings. Nearly two fifths (39%) of the trade reported bookings grew 16 percent or more. Approximately 8 percent reported no change in bookings year over year. In contrast, a small minority (8%) of respondents reported a decrease in bookings to California. By comparison, the trade reported bookings to the U.S. for second quarter 2012 increased 10 to 15 percent. 5 California Projected Fourth Quarter 2012 and First Quarter 2013 Bookings The majority of respondents projected fourth quarter bookings to remain higher. However, fewer trade were as optimistic for growth compared to the previous three quarters. On the positive side, just over two thirds (67%) of the trade projected the state would register higher (58%) and much higher (8%) growth in bookings. One quarter of the trade projected bookings to be flat year over year. In contrast, just under one in ten (8%) respondents reported bookings to be lower, compared to 2011 fourth quarter bookings.
