From June 2015, Cardiff will once again be alive with the sound of song as 20 of the finest young voices from around the world compete for the title of BBC Cardiff Singer of the World, and the chance to lift the Cardiff Trophy. Our team has searched around the globe for the best vocal talent, and with three prizes at stake the competition will be intense. The unique opportunity to sing to audiences in our two wonderful venues, St David s Hall and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, as well as thousands more via the BBC s networks, makes this competition a once in a lifetime opportunity for our singers. 3 THE COMPETITION THE SINGERS What makes of the World so magical? of the World is a life-changing experience for 20 young singers from around the globe. Selected from the hundreds that apply, our finalists have the chance to perform in front of a jury of distinguished opera experts. Two world class orchestras BBC National Orchestra of Wales, conducted by Thomas Søndergård and the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera, conducted by Martyn Brabbins. Performances are broadcast across the BBC s output to audiences around the UK and beyond. The jury select five singers to compete in the nail-biting grand final. 20 singers from across the world with two great orchestras. It s just them, a piano and some of the most beautiful Lieder and art songs in the repertoire. Unforgettable performances accompanied by pianists Llŷr Williams and Simon Lepper. Enjoy these intimate recitals at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, and the final at St David s Hall, The National Concert Hall of Wales. The Audience Prize Once again, audiences at home will get to vote for their favourite singer, and the Audience Prize will be presented during the grand final. Taking place at the venue 45 minutes prior to any concert and recital including the finals. Programme Book You can pre-order your competition programme book now for 10. A voucher will be sent with your tickets, redeemable at the first event you attend. (Separate booklets will be provided for the finals.) Postage and packaging for the programme book: 5 Access St David s Hall and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama are accessible to patrons in wheelchairs.
