3 As a feature film and documentary sales company, for the last eight years, we have presented films that tell stories of the world today. In 2015, we all had to face and deal with many tragic events. On a very personal level, our team and myself have been greatly affected by the loss of Chantal Akerman. Her last film, No Home Movie, is part of our daily office life and the resonance of what Chantal always showed in her work and what we are facing today could not be stronger. In Berlin, we present four films in the official selection, three documentaries and one feature. The documentaries share a common theme: there is no home for so many of us in this world, there is no peace for all of us. And we struggle to find political or even personal answers. Our feature film portrays a young girl growing up in France today. Far from being preoccupied by global issues, she is challenged by her own problems - like we all are in our daily lives. Artists have always been the first to detect failures in our systems. They take risks we do not take. And they send out powerful messages. But they need us to bring their work to people. We would like to thank all of you, who over the last years have been on our side to give our films a home and our artists a voice. Let us continue to make people think and react whether with laughter or tears. And let us ensure that we will not be able to say we did not know. 4 fuocoammare (fire at sea) BY GIANFRANCO ROSI official competition Samuele is 12 years old and lives on an island in the middle of the sea. He goes to school, loves shooting his slingshot and going hunting. He likes land games, even though everything around him speaks of the sea and the men, women and children who try to cross it to get to his island. But his is not an island like the others, its name is Lampedusa and it is the most symbolic border of Europe, crossed by thousands of migrants in the last 20 years in search of freedom. Together, they question the status of the refugees in Israel using Theater of the Opressed techniques. What leads men and women to leave everything behind and go towards the unknown? Why does Israel, land of the refugees, refuse to take into consideration the situation of the exiled, thrown onto the roads by war, genocide and persecution? Can the Israelis working with the asylum seekers put themselves in the refugee s shoes? Can their collective unconscious be conjured up? Advertisement, justice, police are on his side. He decides to open his agency for us. The documentary shows the perspective of the favela youth and aims to find the relation between the favela funk lyrics and their personal, daily (love) lives, dominated by a lawless subculture of drug gangs, violence and sex. The film gives an insight into the current Brazilian underground music and its corresponding sexual values, but it also shows a search for faith, hope and love. The people who live in Jackson Heights, in their cultural, racial and ethnic diversity, are representative of the new wave of immigrants to America. 167 languages are spoken in Jackson Heights. 23 hissein habré, a chadian tragedy BY MAHAMAT-SALEH HAROUN Habré s arrest in Sénégal, in 2013, was a decisive breakthrough in a 23-year struggle pitting the ex-tyrant against survivors. The documentary will give voice to the victims who have shown that, with courage and obstinacy, it is possible to bring a dictator to justice. They want justice making sure that those who committed crimes do not go unpunished. It is a universal story which aims at putting words on untold stories marked in victims skin, who still wonder how it is still possible to live after having been through monstrous events. The judgment due for autumn 2015 will be a Historical moment for African justice. It is a film also about Africa and its relationship with the rest of the world... They try to inspire the love of cinema in a ravaged land, despite the autoritary regime of Omar Al-Bashir. One of their last heroic act is to resuscitate a cinema theater in Khartoum.
