Forbes Magazine The Wolves by Sarah DeLappe directed by Marti Lyons a part of the Women s Voices Theater Festival begins January 17, 2018 Studio kicks off its new year with Sarah DeLappe's The Wolves. The play, a 2017 Pulitzer finalist, arrives at Studio on the heels of its remount at Lincoln Center, following last year s sold-out New York run. Together with acclaimed Chicago-based director Marti Lyons, set designer and Studio s Director of Design Deb Booth (The Father, The Hard Problem, Constellations) will install an indoor soccer turf in Stage 4 to bring audience members even closer to this award-winning, double-extended play. Sarah s burst onto the scene with this play, said Artistic Director David Muse, and I understand the fuss: She s got a way with talk, a real sense of style and theatricality wait until you see nine young women doing passing drills with soccer balls in Stage 4 and has some real things to say about teenagers and coming of age today. I think DC is going to flip for her. The Wolves is Studio's official entry into the citywide Women's Voices Theater Festival, which highlights the scope of new work being written by women and the range of professional theatre produced in DC. Studio was among the seven founding theatre companies that launched the festival in In the inaugural festival, Studio commissioned and premiered Animal by Clare Lizzimore, which opened Off Broadway at the Atlantic Theater Company in May of 2017.

2 About The Wolves Winter indoor soccer. Saturdays. Over quad stretches and squats, a team of young women prepares to defend the Wolves undefeated record, their banter spilling from tampons to genocide to the pressures of preparing for their adult lives. With an ear for the bravado and vulnerability of the teenage years, The Wolves follows a group of 16-year-old girls who turn into warriors on the field. A Pulitzer finalist play from a new voice, Studio-commissioned writer Sarah DeLappe. About Sarah DeLappe Sarah DeLappe s play The Wolves premiered Off Broadway at The Playwrights Realm, following an engagement at New York Stage and Film, and development at Clubbed Thumb and the Great Plains Theatre Conference. The Wolves received the American Playwriting Foundation s inaugural Relentless Award, and was a finalist for the 2016 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and the Yale Drama Series Prize. Ms. DeLappe is the Page One Playwright for The Playwright s Realm and was a resident artist at the Sitka Fellows Program and SPACE on Ryder Farm. An alumna of Clubbed Thumb Early Career Writers Group and New Georges Audrey Residency, she is currently a member of the Ars Nova Play Group and a Resident Playwright at LCT3. Commissions: Playwrights Horizons, Atlantic Theater, Studio Theatre, Two River Theater Company, EST/Sloan, and Actors Theatre of Louisville. Ms. DeLappe received her MFA in Playwriting from Brooklyn College. About Marti Lyons Marti Lyons most recently directed The Mystery of Love and Sex by Bathsheba Doran for Writers Theatre, Short Shakes! Romeo and Juliet for Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Wit for The Hypocrites, Give it All Back by Calamity West for Sideshow Theatre, and The City of Conversion by Anthony Giardina for Northlight Theatre Company. She directed Wondrous Strange, by Meg Miroshnik, Martyna Majok, Jen Silverman, and Jiehae Park for the Humana Festival at Actors Theatre of Louisville, staring the theatre's Apprentice Company, and a reading of Meg Miroshnik's Lady Tattoo for the Pacific Playwrights Festival at South Coast Repertory Theatre. Marti has also directed Will Eno s Title and Deed for Lookingglass Theatre Company and a reading of Martín Zimmerman's On the Exhale for the New Stages Festival at Goodman Theatre where she received the 2015 Maggio directing fellowship. Other projects include Laura Marks Bethany, Marks' Mine, and Will Nedved s Body and Blood for The Gift Theatre, where she is an ensemble member; Catherine Trieschmann s Hot Georgia Sunday and Theresa Rebeck's Seminar for Haven Theatre; Prowess by Ike Holter, The Peacock by Calamity West, and The Last Duck by Lucas Neff for Jackalope Theatre; The Play About My Dad by Boo Killebrew for Raven Theatre; Mai Dang Lao by David Jacobi, 9 Circles by Bill Cain, Maria/Stuart by Jason Grote, and co-directed The Golden Dragon for Sideshow Theatre, where she is an Artistic Associate. 3 About the cast Merissa Czyz s credits include the national tour of Hair and HBO s High Maintenance. Ms. Crzyz received her BFA in Musical Theatre from Boston Conservatory. Chrissy Rose s New York credits include productions with Four Words Theatre Company and Classic Stage Company. Ms. Rose received her MFA in Acting from Columbia University and studies comedy improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) theatre. Lindsley Howard is a New York-based actor whose recent credits include Playing Hot at Ars Nova and The Trojan Women at The Flea (Drama Desk nominee). Sarah Turner received her BFA in the Performing Arts from the Savannah College of Art & Design. She has also received training from the Actors Theatre of Louisville as an Acting Apprentice. Jane Bernhard has worked regionally at Barrington Stage Company, Goodspeed Opera House, and Red Mountain Theatre Company. She recently recorded songs for the new musical comedy Amazon pilot "Single" with Larry O'Keefe and Ethan Kuperberg (Transparent). She received her MFA in Musical Theatre from Boston Conservatory. As a teenager, she ranked 17 in the nation for soccer. Katie Kleiger was last seen at Studio in The Effect, directed by David Muse. Off Broadway credits include Ring Twice for Miranda at New York City Center and The Fall at Soho Playhouse. DC credits include Miss Bennet at Round House Theatre; the premiere of the new play Home, Again at the Kennedy Center; and A Christmas Carol at Ford s Theatre. Maryn Shaw is a NYC-based actor, singer, and violinist. Most recently, Maryn performed with the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival, under artistic director Davis McCallum. Shanta Parasuraman is a DC-based actor that has performed with Imagination Stage, Adventure Theatre, Arts on the Horizon, and The Welders. She received her B.A. in Theatre and Telecommunications from Indiana University. Gabby Beans s theatre credits include Curse of the Starving Class, Tar and Feather, Far Away, and Blue Ridge at Williamstown Theatre Festival. Television credits include a recurring role on Netflix s House of Cards. Ms. Beans received her MA in Classical Acting for the Professional Theatre from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and her B.A. in Theatre and Neuroscience & Behavior from Columbia University. Anne Bowles has numerous Broadway credits (Collected Stories; Reasons to be Pretty; Inherit the Wind) and has been seen in the DC area at theatres such as Studio Theatre, Olney Theater Center, and Round House Theatre. About the Creative Team Set Designer Deb Booth is Studio s Director of Design. She has designed dozens of Studio productions, most recently The Father, The Hard Problem, and Constellations. Costume Designer Sarah Cubbage returns to Studio after designing costumes for last season s The Hard Problem. Her Off Broadway credits include Soho Repertory Theatre,

4 Theatre for the New City, Aquila Theatre Company, Urban Stages, Ohio Theatre, and Atlantic Stage 2. Lighting Designer Paul Toben is a Chicago-based lighting designer. His New York credits include The Story of My Life (Broadway, with Ken Billington), Electra in a One Piece (The Wild Project), Saturn Nights (The Incubator), The Realm (The Wild Project), Romeo and Juliet (Columbia Stages), Futurity and Too Little, Too Late (HERE Arts Center), When in Disgrace (Examined Man), and The Redheaded Man (Fringe Encores). Sound Designer/Composer Mikhail Fiksel s design credits include work with Playwrights Horizons, Goodman Theatre, The Civilians, Dallas Theatre Center, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Timeline, The Old Globe Theatre, Victory Gardens, St. Louis Repertory, and many others. Movement Coach Stephanie Paul is a Chicago-based choreographer, director, performer and educator. Her credits include work with Chicago Shakespeare, Court Theatre, American Theater Company, Adventure Stage Chicago, City Theatre, and The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis. Soccer Consultant Manya J Makoski is a retired professional soccer player whose professional career as midfielder spanned nine years with the National Women s Soccer League. As a teenager, she was part of the 2002 U-19 World Cup Team that won the FIFA World Championship in Alberta, Canada. She currently serves on the coaching staff of the University of Maryland s women s soccer team. About Women s Voices Theater Festival The Women s Voices Theater Festival is dedicated to highlighting the scope of plays being written by women and the range of professional theater being produced in the nation s capital region. The Festival s debut in 2015 featured world premiere plays by female playwrights on stages across Washington, D.C. and was heralded as a landmark in striving for gender parity in American theater.
