2 Welcome TO OUR SEASON. We launch with a spectacular Festival dedicated to master choreographer Jerome Robbins and his profound influence on ballet, Broadway, and American culture. Two programs, seven ballets, and loads of Festival extras make this the must-see event of the fall. After years of planning, I am thrilled to present this fascinating festival of works by one of the greatest choreographers of our time. Our ALL PREMIERE program in November features a world premiere by PNB soloist Kyle Davis and two Company premieres by Alejandro Cerrudo and Alexander Ekman. Ekman s Cacti is like nothing you ve ever seen, with raw physicality, arresting design, musicians and cacti onstage plus enthusiastic ovations in the house. PNB s Sleeping Beauty, staged by Ronald Hynd, is the quintessential version of this charming fairytale. Classical ballet aficionados recognize Beauty as the Everest of technical challenges, while the younger set will be enthralled by Red Riding Hood, Puss in Boots, princesses, a bluebird, and the menacing Carabosse. DIRECTOR S CHOICE introduces the work of two choreographers new to PNB: Robyn Mineko Williams and Matthew Neenan. Providing opportunities for choreographers has been a guiding artistic principle of mine since day one. We continue to build repertory by Justin Peck with the welcome addition of his critically acclaimed In the Countenance of Kings. Audience favorite A Midsummer Night s Dream returns with the fair weather in April. This production is like none other, with distinctly Northwest designs. Expect laughter, beauty, brilliant dancing, and a little moss on the north side. The talent in our ranks is not limited to great dancing, as evidenced by PNB soloist Price Suddarth s masterful creation, Signature. Jose Limon s The Moor's Pavane makes a welcome return alongside two by Balanchine: Tarantella offers a playful battle of bravura while Theme and Variations enthralls as the epitome of technical precision and lyrical grace. The scope of this season is tremendous, offering the magnificence of classical ballet and the innovative new direction of dance as interpreted by today s finest choreographers. Repertory comes from as far away as St. Petersburg in 1890 and from the McCaw Hall stage in Join us for all of it. The best way to experience the joy of dance is to treat yourself and your circle to a subscription to PNB. 4 REP 1 SEPT 21 30, 2018 No individual pushed me harder or taught me more than Jerome Robbins. Jerome Robbins PNB CELEBRATES THE ROBBINS CENTENNIAL WITH A FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND JEROME ROBBINS FESTIVAL. Artistic Director Peter Boal s selection of seven iconic works fills PNB s stage for two weeks in alternating repertory. This unique performance schedule was designed to give audiences the opportunity to immerse themselves in the genius of Jerome Robbins*. A legendary choreographer for both stage and screen, the Festival demonstrates Robbins remarkable gift for illuminating relationships, from love at first sight to hilarious encounters. *Subscribers will be issued tickets to program A or B, depending on their series, but will receive ½ off the price to the alternate program if added by June 15, Festival add-ons, educational events, and more to be announced. Seth Orza in Jerome Robbins' The Concert. Angela Sterling.

5 He was brilliant at infusing his work with subtle emotion, poignancy, humor, and memory. I'm thrilled to bring this Festival dream to fruition. All is resolved by Act II, which opens with Mendelssohn s familiar Wedding March. The ballet is crowned by the magnificent Divertissement pas de deux, which endures as one of Balanchine s most beautiful creations.
