3 Box Office Art Gallery Exhibitions Little Black Dress 10 December 26 February Admission Free In 1926, Coco Chanel launched her Ford dress, the first definitive Little Black Dress (LBD) onto the haute couture scene. Both practical and chic, the LBD has since become a staple in every woman s wardrobe. Using the ullie House costume collection as well as designer garments loaned-in, this exhibition shows the evolution of the little black dress, both preceding the launch of Chanel s Ford dress and over the successive eight decades, exploring how it has been adapted to suit wildly changing fashion styles and cultural climates from the raunchy cocktail dress of the prohibition-era to the modest and practical dress of wartime and the mini of the 1960s, up to the present day. he costumes are contextualised by film footage, studio photography and dress patterns from each of the respective eras. Little Black Dress has been curated by Pollyanna Clayton- Stamm, with contributions from David Sinclair. he tour is based on the original exhibition at Urbis, Manchester and he Civic, Barnsley. Femme Fatale: What makes the Little Black Dress so iconic? hursday 16 February at 7.00pm A special evening exploring the LBD as a style statement in 20th century costume history and including an illustrated talk by Dr. Maggi oner- Edgar, fashion designer and director of a Creative Style consultancy in Cumbria. here will be the opportunity to learn about the museum s costume collection as well as to get an exclusive tour of the exhibition. ickets cost ( concessions) and can be booked on Image courtesy of Amilia Hrustic

4 04 Box Office Secret Egypt: Unravelling ruth from Myth 10 March 10 June Admission charges apply Is there a mummy s curse? Were the Egyptians obsessed with death? Did aliens build the pyramids? Such questions are addressed in Secret Egypt, a major exhibition which examines popular modern ideas about the ancient Egyptians and uses objects to suggest that the truth might be otherwise. he exhibition features around 200 artefacts on loan from major Egyptology collections throughout the UK including Manchester Museum, the Ashmolean and Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Moving through six themes, it begins by asking what is real and what is fake via an examination of funerary objects that helped Ancient Egyptians into the sacred world of death before debunking some of the more spurious myths that have grown up around them. Secret Egypt is a touring exhibition developed by the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, Coventry.
