4 Animation Club Summer workshop by MAAC About MAAC MAAC is the high-end 3D Animation & VFX education brand of Aptech. MAAC prepared students for Animation, VFX, Filmmaking, Gaming, Web and Graphics Design. The Academy provided quality education through IIT Kanpur students-oriented courses, leading to top-notch workshop. A workshop was conducted during the summer. It was taken by the professionals from the MAAC institute, which is a prominent institute dedicated to 3D animation. The numbers of students attending the workshop were around sixty. The workshop was of 40 days. Everything was taught from the grass root level covering all basic and advance features of 3D modeling and animation. Students who completed the final project were given a certificate from MAAC. Autodesk 3DS Max Workshop A two day workshop (24th and 25th, August, 2013) mainly for first year students was conducted in Computer Centre s Windows Lab. 25 students attended the workshop. Main topics covered in the workshop were modeling and texturing. On the Spot Competition An on-the spot animation competition was conducted on Oct (Thursday). The competition was open for all and was held at Windows Lab in Computer Centre from 8:30 pm to 12:30 am. A total of around 20 registrations were received for which the theme was declared one day before the event. Project Motion : Tracking A project on motion tracking is in progress in which all the secretaries along with the coordinators are working together. The new software introduced in the club for this is BOJOU. The club is planning to make short videos using this technique. Recommendations Last year, Animation Club faced several problems during the summer workshop due to miscommunication of terms with MAAC. Workshop was delayed three days by MAAC and even certificates of the last workshop arrived 8 months later. For this year, we made our terms clear that we will 50% of the fee before the workshop and other 50% in August after we receive the certificates. 4

6 Design Club Festivals Antaragni Design Team - Vibhu M. Bajpai, coordinator of design club is currently serving as Design Head of Antaragni. Other members of Design Club are part of design team headed by him. - Other coordinators of Design Club often assist Antaragni design team in their work. Udghosh - A four-member design team was headed by Mr. Manas Singh, design head of Udghosh 13. Executives of the design team were also the member of Design Club. Techkriti - Same is the case for Techkriti 13 Office of International Relations Brochure - MOSAIC Opportunity for designing the brochure of OIR was given to design club by Himanshu Pandey, President Students Gymkhana. Our team worked closely with Prof. Anupam Saxena (Advisor) and Miss Bharti Sharma, Office of International Relations. Previously, some companies approached for designing brochure and were charging hefty amounts. Due to high quality of work done, Mr. Nitin Prakash Mahour was rewarded for the work. 6

8 Film Club Insight 360 Insight 360 is a sister club to film club. It mainly deals with the video journalism of all the activities at IITK and surroundings. This is an attempt to revive the club. We have done with all the standards and we assure you that there is a lot more fun to come. Campus Coverage Video Production 8

9 Film Club Summer Workshop Organized a workshop on video editing and effects, in which tutorials were held on using the software Adobe Premier Pro, along with the camera handling and its techniques. Pre-production of the first movie to be produced exclusively by IITK students based on a social issue was completed, the shooting of which is scheduled for December 13. Completed the commercial project by and produced 15 videos as a part of the project. Initiated the video type Behind the Scenes in the institute by making this video for fresh mentors project. Came up with a new logo for the club and incorporated it in all the videos produced by the club. With this we also initiated the idea of a moving logo in the institute. Produced a convocation video for the passing out batch of 2013 which was gifted in form of CDs to all the passing out students. More than 50 students were involved in these two summer projects for the first time in the history of film club. Semester Ι, Initiated a new video journalism series Insight 360 and have released its three episodes till now. Covered all the events of Udghosh 13, musical extravaganza, Dramatics Eve and other events during the semester. Produced five promotional videos for Udghosh 13 including an exclusive interview with national Olympic badminton player Ashwini Ponappa. Produced promotional video for the DUGC/DPGC and By-Elections in the first semester. Produced two inspirational videos for the institute teams for Udghosh 13 and Inter-IIT Swimming Championship. Participated in national level ad-making competition in Antaragni 13 with our entry Quit Smoking or Die. Results yet to be announced. Produced the most popular video by IITK students Engineering Ka Frustnama with about 2 Lakhs views and 2 thousand likes on YouTube. Established a new YouTube channel Films and Media Council, IITK which has more than one thousand subscribers by now. 9

10 LifeStyle Hobby Group Freshers 13 saw participation some really enthusiast to spread glamour and dazzle people with their modeling skills. It encouraged us to lay foundation of this group. Increasing the purview of this group, we included various other things like restaurant reviews (brilliant idea given Mr. Anant Mundra), travel guides, lifestyle magazine and many more. We have already started off with restaurant reviews and plan to release a small booklet serving foreign students visiting faculty, new students and even others. 11 Photography Club Campus Exhibitions Celebrating Life As the world observed World Suicide Prevention Day, Counseling Service planned to bring more awareness amidst the campus community with regard to this sensitive issue. Orientation Exhibition A mini exhibition to display all the photographs clicked by photography club was put near the SnT pavilion.this had given a very good first impression of club works to freshers just after presentation during orientation. Competitions Campus Photography Celebrating Life in collaboration with Counseling service Eye - Spy hall level Photography Competition (hall 2,3,5 and 10 ) A hall level inter-wing competition in collaboration with Counseling Service was conducted during orientation program. Lectures & Workshops First introductory Lecture - An Introductory lecture was conducted in the first week of August which was intended to introduce the club to the campus society and to make them acquainted with some basics of photography. We had a very good reception with about 150 people turning up. Lecture cum workshop Light painting by Shamik Ghosh. - As a new initiative a weekly meeting of club members was organized out of which first was taken by Mr. Shamik Ghosh on Light Painting. After that the club meets on a regular basis for to click photographs of various domains of photography like product photography,fashion photography. Regular Work and Projects Projects - Fortefotos : Colors - Emotion : Expression : Reaction Gate Exam photographs - Around 275 people turned for the photography sessions. People were really happy for the quality of photographs delivered - We recommend that same facility must be used during orientation such that quality of the photographs are good. 11

12 Radio 90.4FM Summer Workshop This workshop was mainly a Rj ing summer course but we tried to include some extra things like: A day was devoted for understanding music and its different notes and pitches etc. We included some part of our workshop in improving the communication skills of an individual and their body postures during communication. Script writing and Voice editing were also included in the workshop. Professional Details Mr. Vijay Banerjee - He has a great experience in the radio communication sector which stems from his having worked with All India Radio unit for many years. He is Assistant director of All India Radio, Lucknow. - Facebook - Mr. Anurag Dixit - A big big name in the field of Pop music. But don't get overwhelm by his music career. Actually he is a top class RJ too and has hosted many shows on several Radio too. - Homepage - Ms. Garima Tripathi -The bubbly anchor of 98.3 Radio Mirchi will be here these summers to interact with the students and throw light on the dynamics of RJing, along with the personality traits that make a perfect RJ. - Profile - Mr. Mihir Swaroop - He has a great experience in communication and oratory skills and currently works at AIR Lucknow. Mr. Amit Tripathi and Om Prakash Sharma - They are specialist in Radio Audio editing and mixing and has a lot of experience in this field. They currently works as a project associate in Media center IIT Kanpur. Other Features We organized a trip to Radio Mirchi Kanpur next weekend for all the participants in the workshop. Snacks were provided each and every day during the workshop and Heavy Snacks were provided on the Inaugural and Closing ceremony of the workshop. Important statistics Total Number of students registered 48 Total number of students attended every day Challenges Faced NO Recording Equipments - Radio hobby group don t have any facility for recording interviews and episodes. Always they have to request Media Centre for facilities which is not available all the time. - We are getting RøDE mic, USB Podcaster and smart Lav, and Sony recorder. Limited Air Time - Air time for student shows is very less. Even considering the fact audience for radio is falling exponentially. - We have planned to use sound cloud for purpose of content delivering and live streaming through student server. 12

13 Show-M & Archive Club Movie & Match Screenings Movie Reviews After receiving great feedback from the first movie review, we received mails from people who are also interested. Vinay Kamawalat, resident of Hall X contacted LDG group for the same. Including Mrs. Suchitra Mathur mam, we have planned movie screenings & discussions and review writing in FMC room for the group.
