When I m selecting music for my group, the Pikes Peak Ringers, I try to keep in mind a number of things. I want to choose music that our audience or congregation will enjoy and that will speak to them. I also want to choose music that the ringers will enjoy - after all, the more they enjoy a piece the better they will play it! And I want to choose music that I enjoy! After all, as director, I m going to live with this music for a while, so it s important to be working on music that stirs my passions and keeps me engaged. I also keep in mind the demands of the program. It is, of course, very important to challenge our ringers and help them grow, so we need to have music that takes them to the next step. At the same time, I always like to keep in mind that there is nothing wrong with doing easier music well, and most programs are pretty crowded for time, so it s important to have music that takes just a few rehearsals and will still be up to the standard of excellence. As always, Jeffers Handbell Supply, RingingWord Publications, and Fred Bock Music are delighted to bring you music for all types of groups, all worship and performance situations and music for all ability levels. Traditional music for general worship and Christmas, classics, originals, music with other instruments, and even Disney tunes are to be found in our latest offerings. From Ring Out! Press we have a wonderful setting of the majestic hymn When In Our Music God is Glorified from the talented pen of Linda Lamb. All Hail the Power of Jesus Name is a fairly easy setting of the tune DIADEM. It is being released in two versions for 2 or 3 octaves for 3, 4 or 5 octaves. It will work well for church, festivals or other concerts. Dan Edwards contributes another gem: Gathering at the River is a tasty combination of Shall We Gather at the River and Deep River. For Christmas, Linda Lamb gives us a very accessible and beautiful arrangement, One Night in Bethlehem. Composers Music offers two choice morsels:. A Tree and a Star contains two nice arrangements from Kath Wissinger ( O Christmas Tree and We Three Kings ). Jim Smith has another absolute winner as he examines musically Bingo s Travels. (Orff instrument parts are also available.) All in all we have a wide variety of strong releases. Please give them careful consideration. 3 Christmas Processional & Medley II Various/Hall This medley of O Come All Ye Faithful, He Is Born, and Angels, from the Realms of Glory begins with an optional 12-measure processional (performance ideas are included in footnotes). A straightforward rendition is augmented with the sound of 2-5 octaves of optional handchimes in select passages, working towards a big ending in measure 104! 4 pages of music omitted Music Symbol Sudoku Sudoku, the 9x9 number puzzles that swept the country almost overnight, meets notes and rests in this fun, flexible game book! The rules are simple- instead of putting numbers 1 through 9 in each place, put a different note or rest in each. Each of the 29 reproducible puzzles contained has three variations from easy to difficult, and answers are given for each. 5 Pizzicati Delibes/McChesney String players will recognize the title of this arrangement as meaning more than one pizzicato which is to simply pluck a string. That transposes into bell literature as lots of staccato techniques (pluck, thumb damp, mallet) and martellatos. After a 3-measure free-tempo introduction, the score clips along in a whimsical nature, encountering a few chromatic harmonies along the way. A fun concert piece that would make a great encore! 13 Carol of the Birds French/McChesney The tune of this French carol is set in two moods in this short, 24 measure, selection. The opening section uses staccato technique on March-like rhythms for a strong statement in a minor key. The second section puts the tune in the middle with an eighth-note accompaniment pattern overhead that mimics the dip and soar pattern of birds. 14 Spanish Dance McChesney Subtitled Baile Espanol, this original composition moves along at quarter = 100. A rhythmic figure of sixteenth-eighth-sixteenth, two-eighths dominates the entire piece and is reminiscent of the strum of a classical Spanish guitar (on which the composer is a proficient player!).
