2 New Music for Handbells from Beckenhorst Press, Inc. and Jeffers Handbell Supply, Inc. 1 Glad Tidings of Joy Lloyd Larson 3-5 octaves Level 3- MBEHB624 $4.50 $3.83 Lloyd Larson s pairing of God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen and Pat-a-Pan is a delight to listen to or play. Driving malleted rhythms underpin the melody until a brief echo section which gives way to the malleted rhythms once more. A key change introduces the Pat-a-Pan melody before a return to the original key brings the piece in to its exciting conclusion. A must-have for this Christmas season! 2 The Angels and the Shepherds Jason Krug 3-6 octaves/ Opt. Handchimes Level 2+ MBEHB612 $4.50 $3.83 Jason Krug s arrangement of this little-known Christmas tune is sure to delight ringers and audiences. The tune is introduced in an ethereal opening with chimes and malleted suspended bells before undergoing a number of variations from playful to regal and everything in between. 3 Come, Thou Almighty King Patricia Hurlbutt 2-3 octaves Level 2 MBEHB577 $3.50 $2.98 Patricia Hurlbutt s arrangement of ITALIAN HYMN is an exciting, accessible arrangement of the well-loved hymn. The tune undergoes a number of variations as the melody is passed around the entire choir. Multiple techniques keep both ringer and listener excited and engaged throughout. Key of C Major. 4 The Little Jesus Jason Krug 3-5 octaves Level 3- MBEHB611 $4.50 $3.83 Jason Krug s arrangement of this little-known Puerto Rican carol is a treat for ringer and listener alike. An impassioned opening figure gives way to the melody, underscored by full chords. A second verse, accompanied by a dance-like chordal figure, sets the stage for the return of the opening theme, which then gives way to a joyous final verse, accompanied by a malleted bass figure. 5 O Sing to the Lord a New Song! Lloyd Larson MBEBP2158 SATB $2.15 $1.83 MBEBP2158A Flute part $2.95 $2.51 MBEBP2158B 2 octave handbell part $3.50 $2.98 This is an exciting anthem of praise based on Psalm 98 and incorporating HYFRYDOL and a Robert Lowry text, scored for SATB choir and keyboard with optional flute and handbells (2 octave). It is suitable for any occasion of worship. 98 measures. Keys of F and G Major. 6 O Sanctissima Jason Krug 3-6 octaves/ Opt. Handchimes Level 3 MBEHB613 $4.50 $3.83 A haunting and melancholy accompaniment on chimes starts off this arrangement of the well-known hymn tune. Delicate and flowing sixteenth notes underpin the middle verse which leads into a triumphant and chordal final verse. Delightful and unexpected harmonies abound throughout, casting this old favorite in a new light. 7 This Joyous Celebration Patrick Meyer 3-5 octaves/ Opt. Handchimes Level 3 MBEHB570 $4.50 $3.83 Patrick Meyer makes his debut in the Beckenhorst catalog with this upbeat and bouncy original work, suitable for worship or concert use. Set in a lilting six-eight time, the melody moves throughout the ensemble, giving all ringers the chance to shine. The middle section introduces a countermelody in the high treble bells, giving ensembles a chance to work on the balance of parts and musicality. The closing verse returns to the original key for its celebratory conclusion. 86 measures. Keys of F Major and G Major. 8 del Cinco Brenda Austin 3-6 octaves/ Opt. Handchimes Level 4 MBEHB606 $5.50 $4.68 A haunting, lyrical section opens this original tune before giving way to an energetic and driving motif which once more returns to the lyricism of the opening. Though scored entirely in five-four time, the middle section is conducted in an uneven four, giving ringers the chance to practice asymmetric meters. A great choice for advanced choirs in either worship or concert. 9 O Tannenbaum Patricia Hurlbutt 3-5 octaves Level 3 MBEHB614 $4.50 $3.83 MBEHB614A Parts for shaker, guiro & claves $7.50 $6.38 Hurbutt s jaunty arrangement of this traditional German carol is sure to delight listeners this holiday season. The theme is set in four-four time instead of the usual three-four, and syncopations abound. The addition of the optional shaker, claves, and guiro add an extra air of fun to the piece. A different take on an old favorite! 10 Advent Trilogy Karen Buckwalter 3-5 octaves/ Opt. Handchimes (flute/violin part in score) Level 3- MBEHB604 $4.50 $3.83 Buckwalter expertly weaves together a trio of Advent carols in this lyrical medley appropriate for church or concert use. Flowing lines and delicate accompaniment underscore the tunes Blessed Be That Maid Marie, The Cherry Tree Carol, and Lo, How a Rose E er Blooming, and the optional flute or violin add aural interest throughout. A beautiful addition to the handbell literature. The violin or flute part are included with the handbell score JHS-BELL ( ) 8am - 6pm (est) M-F 2
3 11 English Suite Michael Helman 2-3 octaves Level 2 to 3- MBEHB622 $5.95 $ octaves Level 2 to 3 MBEHB630 $5.95 $5.06 Set of three pieces: March (processional); Air (Meditation); Giga (Rejoicing). This delightful trio of tunes from Michael Helman are great fun to play and hear, whether individually, or played together as an entire suite. The stately March throws in some exciting harmonies while maintaining a steady, forward-moving tempo. The delicate Air breathes life into a flowing, memorable melody and makes effective use of handchimes. The spirited Giga is a grand celebration in six-eight time. Each movement also has alternate subtitles, suitable for use in worship. 12 See, Amid the Winter s Snow Lloyd Larson 3-5 octaves/ Opt. Handchimes Level 3 MBEHB623 $4.50 $3.83 Lloyd Larson s lovely arrangement of this Christmas tune Humility opens with a gentle and delicate ostinato figure. A solo melody line on handchimes gives way to both a key change and a full, chordal verse of the tune. The piece returns to the opening key for one final triumphant verse before returning to the opening material to close out the piece. 69 measures. Keys of F Major and D Major. 13 Ring Out, Ye Bells Garrett/Carlton/Forrest (percussion part in the octavo) MBEBP2157 SATB $2.25 $1.91 MBEBP2157A Handbell part $3.50 $2.98 This energetic, rhythmic anthem is a wonderful, festive opener for any Christmas celebration, whether in a worship or a concert setting. It is scored for SATB choir, keyboard and optional handbell choir and drum parts. 102 measures. Key of D Major. 14 Greensleeves Rhapsody Robert James Lamb 3-5 octaves Level 3+ MBEHB600A Handbell part $4.50 $3.83 MBEHB600 full score $5.95 $5.06 MBEHB600B B-flat or C instru., bass & perc. $12.50 $10.63 Greensleeves Rhapsody is arranged for 3 to 5 octave handbell choir and optional B-flat or C solo instrument, bass, triangle and wind chimes. This interesting take on a familiar tune is sure to challenge your ringers this holiday season. An opening swing section with jazzy harmonies gives way to a more flowing iteration of the theme before returning once more to the beginning jazzy feel. Optional parts for percussion, string bass, and B-flat or C instrument round out the jazzy sound and bring a new dimension to the piece. 87 measures. Keys of c minor and g minor. 15 A Prayer for Peace Philip Young 3-5 octaves/ Opt. Handchimes Level 3- MBEHB572 $4.50 $3.83 Written in memory of the September 11 terror attacks, Philip Young s original work is a haunting piece full of aching and loss. A melodic prayer is underscored by original harmonies and a moving eighth note line that propels the piece inexorably onward. Frequent use of handchimes helps bring out various lines in the music. 54 measures. Key of C minor. 16 Lead On, O King Eternal Patricia Hurlbutt 2-3 octaves Level 2 MBEHB595 $3.50 $2.98 Bold, exciting, and approachable all describe Patricia Hurlbutt s arrangement of the hymn tune LANCASHIRE. An energetic fanfare gives way to the melody, which is underscored with enticing harmonies. The fanfare returns before the melody moves to the bass. The piece concludes with a full chordal treatment of the tune before coming to its triumphant conclusion. 51 measures. Keys of G Major and F Major. 17 Stille Nacht James E. Weber 4-7 octaves Level 3 MBEHB554 $4.50 $3.83 An exposed opening is punctuated by upper bells mimicking the chiming of a clock tower in James Weber s expressive arrangement of this Christmas mainstay. Flowing accompaniments and lush, unexpected harmonies abound. The work builds in strength and dynamic throughout before dying away to a gentle conclusion. This is a fantastic addition to both the handbell literature and any Christmas service or concert. 76 measures. Key of Db Major. 18 Canticle Matthew Compton 3-6 octaves/ Opt. Handchimes/ Opt. Percussion Level 3+ MBEHB588 $6.95 $5.91 Canticle was written for 3 to 6 octave handbell choir, optional 3 to 6 octaves of handchimes and optional tambourine and hand drum. This original work by Matthew Compton is an emotional and accessible choice for concert or worship. A flowing lyrical section opens the piece before giving way to a driving and energetic section featuring malleted bells, tambourine, and hand drum, which propel the work to a thunderous conclusion. 109 measures.
