Karen Henneck Shadow in the Woods Pastel Karen Henneck Anticipation of Fall Pastel The inspiration for Karen Henneck s art is God s diverse palette. She loves the color, light and shadows that cause incredible, often unexpected beauty in Wyoming s scenery. With the spontaneity of pastel, Henneck hopes to bring the magnificent views and excitement of nature to the viewer. Her concern with what the growing population is doing to the landscape is the motivation for imitating nature in her art, in the hope that future generations will be able to see what was once the uncluttered West. 2

(Dave) True, Jr. Atrium The Helios Trio is a dynamic new piano trio comprised of artist faculty from the University of Wyoming. Their rich and diverse backgrounds as performers combine to produce probing, and passionate interpretations of the great repertoire for violin, cello and piano. First performing together only three years ago, they recognized that indescribable spark from the start, and have never looked back. In 2015, the Trio served as Artists in Residence for the Music for a Great Space series in North Carolina, performing concerts and working with talented young musicians. Pianist (and forte pianist) Chi-Chen Wu is a native of Taiwan, and prizewinner in several Taiwanese national piano competitions. Praised by World Journal, Chicago for her amazing playing, and by Early Music America for her Schumann performance, in which the music comes to life in a new way, pianist Wu has appeared as recitalist, chamber musician and concerto soloist in the United States, Canada, France, Spain, Japan, Taiwan, China, the Aspen Music Festival, Monadnock Music Festival, Mayfest, and Chamber Music Festival among others. Wu has recorded Haydn Lieder on a replica of a Walter fortepiano, with soprano Andrea Folan, for the Musica Omnia label; and her recital and discussion on piano collaboration are featured in Malcom Bilson s DVD Performing the Score released in Her recording of The Complete Schumann Sonatas for Violin and Piano with Nicholas DiEugenio was released on Musica Omnia in June

5 5 Visual Artist Cellist Beth Vanderborgh also maintains a vigorous performing and recording career. She was top prizewinner of the Washing Society for Arts and Letters Cello Competition, as well as the Baltimore Chamber Awards. The Strad Magazine (London) praised her recent recording of the music of August Nölck as Lyrical and technically accomplished eloquent and persuasive, and the Classical Voice of North Carolina describes her playing as Impeccable musicianship, rhythmic precision, technical expertise, and expansive, passionate musicianship. Gorgeous music, exquisitely performed, and I do not believe I have overdone the superlatives. Vanderborgh s recent recordings include discs of the Chamber Music of Gwyneth Walker for the Albany Label, and Chamber Music of Jennifer Higdon (in collaboration with the Pulitzer prizewinning composer) also for Albany. Vanderborgh has performed with the Washington Concert Opera and the Pittsburgh Symphony. She continues to enjoy her activities as artist faculty of the Eastern Music Festival, principal cellist of the Greensboro Symphony, and has been newly appointed as principal cellist of the Cheyenne Symphony. Violinist John Fadial is concertmaster of the Greensboro Symphony, and assistant concertmaster of the Eastern Festival Orchestra. He has performed, taught and recorded internationally. His performances of the Chamber Music of Samuel Colleridge-Taylor (Centaur) was deemed not to be missed by American Record Guide, and his recording of Jennifer Higdon s Legacy (Albany) was described as heart rending by Fanfare Magazine. The Washington Post described his performances with Vanderborgh and the Stanislas Sextet Wow! Great Stuff. A champion of new music, Fadial has recently performed violin concertos by Arthur Gottshalk and Lee Actor. He also enjoys a collaboration with the Denver based Extasis Tango. Fadial, Vanderborgh, and Wu are dedicated to education and building audiences for the future. In addition to maintaining large classes of talented students at the University of Wyoming, they are highly involved in musical outreach, bringing great music to rural areas, and into the schools. Karen Henneck, PSA, is an impressionistic pastel artist living in Casper, Wyoming. She is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, and is also a member of the Pastel Society of New Mexico and Casper Artists Guild. She is represented by galleries in Wyoming and Colorado. Henneck was a floral designer for 21 years before attending Casper College. After graduation, she was a substitute teacher for three years. Since 2001 she has devoted her time to her art career. In addition to her pastel landscapes, she has created numerous murals and life-sized fiberglass animals for fundraising events in Wyoming and South Dakota. She also has three children s books being published at this time. She has written and illustrated Something s Fishy. She also illustrated This Skin I m In and Ben and Pirate Moon, which are authored by Courtney Crane. Henneck has written 13 other books she is illustrating.
