Teachers: supply the students with good recording tools. RECORD THE AUDITION IN YOUR BAND ROOM. In order for this to be the best experience for your student, please do not put pressure on them to record themselves at home- even if a parent will voluntarily record them. The band room is more professional!

The quotas for each district are determined by the IBA JH/MS Affairs Committee. Each district has its own specific requirements for selection into the All-Iowa 8th Grade Honor Band. The auditions for the students from the NWIBA district are held in conjunction with the NWIBA MS/JH Honor Band auditions. The audition requirements are the same. The highest seated 8th grade students are chosen for the All-Iowa 8th Grade Honor Band, if they are of All Iowa Honor Band caliber. It is possible for 7th grade students to be seated ahead of an 8th grade student in the NWIBA Honor Bands. The identification of 8th grade students is not done until after the seating order of the NWIBA MS/JH Honor Bands is determined. If a judge feels there is no 8th grade student of All-Iowa 8th Grade Honor Band caliber, no student is chosen for that instrument. Students who are selected from each IBA district meet in May at the IBA Conference for a one-day rehearsal and concert.
