4 From the Dean, You ve all heard the expression, Happy as a clam. Well, I am happy to announce that my church, St. Paul s Lutheran Church, York has signed a contract to purchase a new organ console plus additional ranks of pipes. After many months of research, meetings with organ builders and discussing various options of adding and revoicing pipes, I am pleased that the church has made the commitment to spend money to upgrade its Casavant pipe organ. Orgues Letourneau located in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada was awarded the contract. Coincidentally, Casavant Organ Company is also located in the same town. The church will be getting a new 3 manual 100 stop moveable organ console. Additional ranks of pipes include a Terz 1 3/5, and extensions of an 8 Trumpet and 8 String made playable on the Swell, Great and Pedal. We are also having the Mixtures on the Great and Pedal divisions repitched to a brighter pitch level. All of this will happen as the church undergoes a major renovation project including redesign of the chancel area which will allow for better ease of movement and greater flexibility. At the conclusion of the building renovation project, we expect to add a Trompette en chamade to be located on the rear gallery wall along with installing a Walker digital voice system to include four 32 stops and a harp and celesta. I am excited with this project as I get to help with the overall design and layout of the organ console, something I ve always wanted to do. Finally, the organ chamber grill cloths will be replaced with new fabric which will allow for better egress of sound. Stay tuned for pictures and updates regarding our organ project. Plan now to attend the annual student/member recital on Tuesday, May 23 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 30 W. Chestnut Street in Hanover. This is one of the largest organs in the world and it has recently undergone major renovations to include a new organ console. Call for new members to join our guild!
