The Chamber Works Series features highly acclaimed faculty and guests performing in smaller ensembles and presenting a broad repertoire. Be inspired, informed, and engaged by music research at the Conservatorium with the About Music Series. Our free public lectures feature new angles on the endlessly fascinating phenomenon of human musicality.

Eduardo Diazmuñoz conductor Commissioned by the Houston Grand Opera for its opera studio, Little Women premiered on 13 March 1998 and is the first opera by American composer Mark Adamo. With music and libretto by Adamo and additional text by Louisa May Alcott, John Bunyon and Goethe, Little Women is adapted from Alcott s classic novel of the same name and tells a tale of growing up in New England after the American Civil War. 6 7

Lunchbreak concerts at 1.10pm and free chamber music in the evening offer you a chance to explore our students diverse musical interests. 8 RISING STARS SHORT COURSES Hear the best and brightest of our school-age Rising Stars students as they present works they have been preparing with their teachers. The concerts feature a broad repertoire and variety of instruments. We encourage children of all ages to attend. There are two performances each Saturday, at 11am and 2pm. Why not combine your concert with a guided tour of the Conservatorium? For information about tours see page 18. The concert dates are as follows: 6 September 1 November 13 September 8 November 11 October 15 November 18 October 22 November 25 October 29 November The Open Academy s Short Courses program provide adults with entertaining, challenging and inspiring ways into the world of music and the Sydney Conservatorium s vibrant culture. Courses are held in collaborative groups over eight weeks (the Spring term is six weeks) for two hours per week. Courses are available in music theory, composition, improvisation, instrumental and vocal performance and aspects of music technology. Enrol early and receive a 15 percent early bird discount. 9 PLAY AT THE CON CONSERVATORIUM HIGH SCHOOL Have you ever wished you could play an instrument? Do you know of someone who stopped learning, but wants to start again? Or do you have a child begging you for music lessons? The Open Academy s new program, Play at the Con, gives everyone the opportunity to learn music one on one at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Music lessons are available across a wide variety of instruments, as well as lessons in voice, theory and composition. Whether you re just starting your musical journey or looking for a refresher course, all are welcome. Term 4 starts on Monday 13 October. The Conservatorium High School is the secondary education arm of the Conservatorium of Music and the only specialist music high school in New South Wales. 10 MUSIC AND HERITAGE TOURS There s more than meets the ear at the Con. Take a one-hour guided tour and find out how the Conservatorium of Music has become the prestigious international school of music it is today. Gain access to areas usually off limits to the public. Walk the corridors underneath the Royal Botanic Gardens while listening to your guide s insightful stories about musicians past and present. Dates and times Tours are available before or after a free classical music performance on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Wednesday: 11am and 2pm (concert at 1.10pm) Saturday: 10am and 1pm (concerts at 11am and 2pm) Prices $25 (adult), $18 (concession), $15 (child 5-15) Concessions are available to holders of an Australian Seniors Card, Australian pensioners, and full-time students older than 16. Children younger than five are free. 12 TICKETING AND BOOKING INFO Free events do not require bookings or reservations unless specified. Tickets for most concerts can be purchased in advance from City Recital Hall, Angel Place, Sydney. Advance bookings are recommended to ensure availability. Advance bookings, including online bookings, are accepted until 3pm on the last business day before the concert. Seats are only available for sale at the Conservatorium from one hour before the concert. By bus Any bus that goes to Circular Quay or along George, Pitt or Macquarie Streets will get you close to the Conservatorium. By ferry Circular Quay is a five-minute walk from the Conservatorium
