The Chamber Works Series (formerly the Cocktail Hour series) features highly acclaimed faculty and guests performing in smaller ensembles presenting a broad repertoire. Showcasing the best of the next generation of musical leaders, our 2014 program is diverse and vibrant. With internationally renowned performers and scholars, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music is the only place in Sydney where you can experience new works and familiar classics each and every week. The Impresario is a short, one-act comic opera written by Mozart in 1786 as part of a double-bill for Emperor Joseph II and his court in Vienna. The Old Maid and the Thief by Gian Carlo Menotti. The Old Maid and the Thief is one of the first operas written specifically for performance on the radio and premiered in Written in English, it tells a tale of moral and romantic twists and turns. The Old Maid and the Thief is by arrangement with Warner Chappell Music Limited. It combines music and spoken dialog and has been updated for modern audiences

14 LIVE AND LEARN WITH MUSIC Since 1974, the Open Academy at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music has given the public the chance to experience and cultivate a love for music through a wide range of programs, courses and workshops. Courses are held regularly at our iconic Macquarie Street location, and are designed to inspire, challenge and educate. It s never too late to experience the joys of music, so why not start today? 15 CONSERVATORIUM HIGH SCHOOL The Conservatorium High School is the secondary education arm of the Conservatorium of Music and the only specialist music high school in NSW. Established at the behest of Henri Verbrugghen, foundation director of the NSW State Conservatorium of Music, the school enrolled its first students in Tickets: Entry to most Conservatorium High School concerts is free and bookings are usually not required. Please refer to the website for event-specific details: conservat-h.schools.nsw.edu.au Friday 7 March, 6.30pm Speech night Wednesday 9 April, 6.30pm Pianists concert TOURS Join us for a tour of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with one of our knowledgeable volunteer guides. Explore the facilities and grounds and learn about the history of the area, what lies underneath the grand Verbrugghen Hall, why the building resembles a castle, and admire the handmade convict brickwork. With the Royal Botanic Gardens above and trains running below, the modern extension, completed in 2001, is an architectural marvel. Come and explore the hidden corridors where our most talented young musicians practise, learn and perform. Tour information Guided group tours are held on Saturdays at 10am and 1pm and on Wednesdays at 11am and 2pm. During the tour you will enjoy history and heritage, architecture, and artefacts from an archaeological site dig, all of which can be combined with a Rising Stars concert (Saturdays) or a lunchtime concert (Wednesdays) in Verbrugghen Hall. Tickets for most concerts can be purchased in advance from City Recital Hall, Angel Place, Sydney. Advance bookings are recommended to ensure availability. Advance bookings, including online bookings, are accepted until 3pm on the last business day before the concert. Seats are only available for sale at the Conservatorium from one hour before the concert. 18 HOW TO FIND US The Sydney Conservatorium of Music is the castle-like building on Macquarie Street, Sydney, opposite Bridge Street, next to the Royal Botanic Gardens. Please note: there is no parking available on site so public transport is the best option. By train Circular Quay and Martin Place are the closest stations. By bus Any bus that goes to Circular Quay or along George, Pitt or Macquarie Streets will get you close to the Conservatorium. By ferry Circular Quay is about five to 10 minutes walk from the Conservatorium
