8 Enclosure 2 - Recital Hall Use Policy ) Please wash your hands before playing pianos. 2) Both Steinway concert grand pianos must stay on the stage of the Recital Hall at all times. Any requests for exceptions to this rule must be presented to the piano technician for consideration and approval by the department head. 3) Steinway model D serial # (Robert) is the default instrument for music events in the Recital Hall requiring a piano. 4) Steinway model D serial # (Clara) is reserved for special music events in the recital hall. Such events would include junior and graduation piano recitals, Music At Noon piano performances, and concert series piano performances. Use of this piano requires prior approval by the department chair. Requests are to be submitted through the piano technician. 5) Clara will be secured with a locking cover to encourage compliance with guideline #3. Keys will be distributed to the department head, the piano instructors, the theatre staff and the piano technician. 6) Robert will be available for selection by any performer who is entitled to use Clara. The piano technician should be notified to ensure Robert is prepared for the event. 7) Clara s humidity control system must be kept plugged in at all times except for actual performances. Please take care of the power cord when moving Clara around on the stage: unplug the cord prior to moving, plug back in when moving completed. 8) The adjustable piano chairs and concert benches are not to be removed from the Recital Hall for any reason other than to accompany one of the Steinways for an approved move. These assets have been marked for identification purposes. Music stands must also remain in the Recital Hall. 9) Please do not place anything on the lids of the pianos, whether the cover is on or not. Please take care when moving the pianos or objects near the pianos to prevent impact damage to the pianos. 10) As per current Recital Hall regulations, no food or drink is permitted in the Recital Hall. 11) For music events taking place outside the Recital Hall that require a U of L concert piano, the 7 6 Bosendorfer (stored in the University Theatre) will be made available. All requests must be submitted to the piano technician for department chair approval at least 1 week in advance for on-campus events, and at least 4 weeks in advance for off-campus events to allow sufficient time to make moving arrangements. 12) If you notice a problem with one of the concert grands or a chair/bench, please notify the piano technician. Practice Room Use Policy 1) Please wash hands before playing pianos. 2) No food of any kind in practice rooms. Drink is restricted to water bottles only. Water bottles must be kept closed when not drinking, and must be placed on the floor. 3) Personal belongings are not to be left in practice rooms before or after practice sessions; they do not reserve a practice room for you. If a practice room is vacant for more than 15 minutes, it becomes available for use by others. 4) Practice room doors should be kept locked (if possible) and closed at all times. 5) Piano chairs, benches and music stands are not to be removed from practice rooms for any reason. 6) Please do not place anything on the top of upright or grand pianos. 7) If you notice a problem with a piano or chair/bench, please notify the piano technician.
9 Enclosure 3 - LIFE CYCLE ASSET REPLACEMENT PROPOSALS August 29-30, 2012 #1 Item for information: Replacement of drums on loan from Faculty of Education (not originally on life cycle list) #2 Ewe drums (A. Mason) Rationale: While in Japan, the West African drumming I taught was a big hit with the performers and the audience. Most of the dances I know are West African since that is where I studied (University of Accra). However, most of the authentic African drums we own can only be played with hands. The West African drumming that I plan to focus on the next few years requires playing with sticks which is not possible on our current African drums. It would be much more effective and advantageous to use the requested authentic instruments in place of our current assembly line produced elementary school instruments for our West African studies. This set of drums would serve us well in the next several years for: -U of L Global Drums performances and concerts. -the many school/public presentations that we do. -hands-on experience for the History of World Music Course (which focuses on West African drumming for the Africa Unit.) Storage: The drums would not take up any additional space as they would rotate shelf space with the Brazilian Samba drums in the new cabinets and the existing shelves in W470. Request: I propose replacing some of the the Remo Tubanos (which are classroom-type drums) with authentic Ewe drums of Ghana. The replacement set would be: EWE SET 5 - Kagan (carved, polished) 5 - Kidi (carved, polished) 5 - Sogo (carved, polished) 1 - Boba (carved, polished) 8 - Axatse (shakers-medium size) 4 - Gankogui (large-double bells) 8 - Toke (large-single bells) 16 soft side cases Cost: $8,339 plus shipping Vendor: Motherland Music, 601 N. Eucalyptus Ave., Inglewood, CA 90302, USA (301) , dan@motherlandmusic.com #3 Alto flute (S. Gieck) I would prefer if the alto flute purchased came with both curved and straight head joints. The straight head joint makes the flute too long for smaller people, the curved one is much easier on the body. If there is no option I would prefer curved as most the students are female and on the smaller side and larger people can just as easily play the curved. The flutes I suggest are as follows (prices in US dollars): Altus 921SE $ Both Headjoints *preferred option Altus 919SE - $ Curved Headjoint only #4 Bari Sax (Mezei/Gray) A Selmer Series II or a Yamaha YBS-62
