Fuge Alexander Meszler is a doctoral student at Arizona State University where he studies with Kimberly Marshall. This past spring, he completed a Master of Music degree in Organ Performance and Music Theory at the University of Kansas. In 2013 Alex earned a Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance from Syracuse University where he worked with Kola Owolabi. He is currently organist at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Parish in Sun City West. As a native of Waterville, New York Alex is enjoying the warmer weather as he has progressively moved southward. He is interested in a wide range of organ literature, research, and performance. He also enjoys conflicting interests of traveling and spending time with his cat, Lafeete. Peter Mahigian has enjoyed a life-long career as a musician; an active organist, vocalist, and teacher. Peter earned Bachelor of Music and Master of Science degrees in Music Education at the State University of New York in Potsdam. He taught General Music and Choir at Brunswick Central Schools in Troy, NY for over 30 years and organ lessons at the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY. Peter has held a number of organist and church choir director positions in New York including First Baptist Church, Troy, NY; St. John s Episcopal Church, Troy, NY; the Cathedral of All Saints, Albany, NY; and Trinity United Methodist Church, Albany, NY. Peter is currently active at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Phoenix as a singer in the Cathedral Chorale and as a substitute organist and choirmaster.
3 Michael Salazar began his organ studies at the age of 14 and earned his first organist position at All Saints Anglican Church in Prescott. After high school, Michael attended the University of Evansville, where he earned his Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance with a minor in Theological Studies, magna cum laude, and was the recipient of numerous awards for musical and academic achievement. He studied organ and harpsichord with Douglas Reed. Immediately following his time in Evansville, Michael went on to graduate school at Yale University through the School of Music and Institute of Sacred Music. He received his Masters of Music in Organ Performance in May of 2013, where he received instruction in organ with Martin Jean and organ improvisation with Jeffrey Brillhart. In addition, he received further study from guest teachers James David Christie, Simon Preston, Vincent DuBois, and Ken Cowan. While at Yale, Michael continued studies in harpsichord, choral conducting, and was heavily involved in numerous choral ensembles, both as singer and accompanist. Currently, Michael is the assistant minister of music at St. Barnabas on the Desert Episcopal Church in Scottsdale and works part-time in the underwriting division of Park Place Equity, a commercial real estate and finance group. Outside of music, some of Michael s interests include investment banking, capital markets, golf, and hiking. Craig J. Westendorf holds a BM in Organ Performance form the Eastman School of Music, a MM in Music and Liturgy from the University of Notre Dame, and a DMA in Choral Music from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has been on the music faculties of both the University of Notre Dame and the University of Illinois, where he taught musicology and conducted choirs. He has played organ recitals throughout his career in the Midwest, the East Coast, Arizona, California, and northern Germany. Dr. Westendorf has been active as an organist and choral director in the greater metropolitan Phoenix area for the last 25 years. He founded and directed the Central Phoenix Oratorio Choir, was artistic director of the Grand Canyon Men s Chorale and the Fountain Hills Community Chorus, Director of Music at First United Methodist Church, Phoenix, and has served as organist for the Phoenix Symphony and the Phoenix Bach Choir. He is currently on the artistic staff of the Phoenix Boys Choir and Music Associate at Central United Methodist Church. His choirs have performed at ACDA and MENC conventions, and he has published scholarly articles on 17 th century music, as well as choral and organ music. Dr. Emma Whitten is an accomplished organist and church musician specializing in early Baroque and contemporary repertoire. In 2014, Emma graduated with her Doctor of Musical Arts in Organ Performance from Arizona State University, where she studied with Kimberly Marshall. Emma has recently been appointed Organist at Mountain View Lutheran in Ahwatukee, and she also serves as Assistant Organist at Ss. Simon & Jude Cathedral in Phoenix. For more information, please visit her website at Chuck Sedgwick received his DMA in organ performance from ASU in 1999 and is the organist at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Phoenix. His teachers have included Robert Clark and Orpha Ochse. He recently retired from Cortez High School, where he has taught vocal music and piano. Gloria Lien grew up in a family that loved music. On Thanksgiving Evening, the cousins, aunts and uncles would gather in the living room and sing Christmas Carols in four parts a cappella. She received her desire as a young child to be the best musician she could be. She took piano and organ from her pastor s wife, Mrs. O.A. Olson, and then from Mrs. Grace Stoppe, becoming organist at her country church at age 12. She continued her musical education at Concordia College, Moorhead, MN and studied organ with Dr. Ruth Berge. In 2002, she and her husband moved to the Valley of the Sun, where Gloria became choir director at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City West. In approximately 2009, she became their organist. She was a participant in a committee of 12 who studied,
4 visited a number of organs (37 organs in 6 states) and recommended the Glatter-Götz Company of Germany with Manuel Rosales as the voicer. The 47-rank pipe organ is a joy to play. She currently takes lessons with Ilona Kubiaczyk-Adler. Gloria is active in the CAZAGO as a board member, the National Federation of Music Clubs as Arizona s representative and teaches both privately and also group lessons in Sun City. Jakob Forde is attending Brophy College Preparatory and is a junior this school year where he maintains an A grade point average. He is heavily involved in music and is a member of the school s Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, and Pep Band. He was voted into the band leadership team last year and again this year. He has been taking piano lessons for over ten years. Jakob was the sole qualifier from Arizona for the Meritas Academic Olympiad for two consecutive years and competed with other musicians internationally and around the country, placing in two top five finishes. Jakob has been competing annually in the National Federation of Music Clubs for eight years and has received the highest rating each year. In addition to playing the piano, he also plays the trombone. Last year, Jakob qualified individually on the trombone for the Regional Band. Jakob belongs to several volunteer groups, including Boy s Team Charity, Key Club, and National Honor Society. He is also organist/ pianist each Sunday morning at Sierra Winds, assisted living facility in Peoria. He takes organ lessons from Gloria Lien and is a scholarship recipient from Central Arizona American Guild of Organist, which he is most thankful. Mr. Jeffrey Porter holds a Bachelor of Music degree (Summa cum laude) in Organ Performance and a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance from SUNY College at Fredonia. Mr. Porter has been a church musician for over 30 years serving the Buffalo, NY area and has extensive experience performing as a vocal soloist and has premiered works by Roland E. Martin and Francis Jackson. Mr. Porter is currently the Director of Music at Orangewood Presbyterian Church in Phoenix. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Sacred Music from Lenoir-Rhyne University, where he studied organ with Florence Jowers, and he received his Master of Sacred Music degree from the University of Notre Dame, where he studied organ with Craig Cramer. He has served as Music Director at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Newton, NC and as an organist at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on Notre Dame s campus. He has also worked as an intern with both the Noack Organ Company and Taylor and Boody Organ Builders. Elizabeth Eli Arnold, age 15, is a student of Dr. Skye Hart and a CAZAGO scholarship award recipient. She is a sophomore at Saguaro High School where she very active in the music and robotics programs, placing in national robotics competitions this year. Surrounded by music from an early age, Eli sings and plays several musical instruments, and sings in her parish choir at St. Maria Goretti Church in Scottsdale. Tatiana Tawney, age 14, is a student of Dr. Skye Hart and a CAZAGO scholarship award recipient. She is in Eighth Grade at Veritas Preparatory Academy where she is active in their choirs and musical productions. Tatiana began organ study at an early age, and hopes to become a church musician, and is active in her parish community of St. Joan of Arc in Phoenix. Dr. Skye Hart is currently serving as Dean of the CAZAGO, Director of Music and Liturgy at St. Maria Goretti Church, Scottsdale, and Organist and Director of the Newman Schola at the ASU Catholic Newman Center, Tempe, AZ. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Organ Performance from Arizona State University, with teachers including, Kimberly Marshall, Russell Stinson, and Siegbert Rampe. Dr. Hart enjoys teaching his many talented students and is thrilled to share his love of classical and liturgical music with them.
6 Mark DePasquale, CAGO, is a practicing attorney who in recent years renewed his interest in organ performance after a 20-year hiatus due to the demands of his day job. He has worked on improving his technique and musical knowledge by working through the examinations offered by the AGO. He is currently tackling the Associate s examination with the coaching of Dr. Skye Hart. When work permits, he also serves as a substitute for weekend services. Ken Noble has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education (1970) and Master of Music Degree in Organ (1972) from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, where he studied organ with Dr. J.J. Keeler. He has been organist at Mesa First Christian Church since 1988 and at Christian Science Church in Tempe since 2012 and organist at Porter Park LSD ward in Mesa. He accompanied 100 voice Arizona Mormon Choir ( ), served as pianist and officer for the 7 th Army Soldiers Chorus in Heidelberg, Germany ( ) which traveled and performed extensively throughout Europe, has performed numerous organ concerts at retirement communities in the Phoenix metro area since 1976 and performed an Organ recital at Salt Lake Temple Square (1980). He served as Treasurer for the CAZAGO from He is a member of the East Valley Music Teachers Association and has instructed piano and organ since He and his wife, Janice have 6 children and 13 grandchildren. Kristin Holton Prouty fell in love with the organ at the tender age of four when her father took her to an organ concert in West Point s Cadet Chapel, and the thrill of hearing a magnificent instrument has never diminished. She has had the privilege of studying in Austria, as well as performing and competing throughout Europe, Mexico, and Egypt. Her passion is exploring the vast and often overlooked early music repertoire and sharing it with 21 st century audiences. Kristin recently completed her doctorate with Kimberly Marshall at Arizona State University. She is director of worship and music at Victory Lutheran Church, Mesa, and any spare time she has is spent with her supportive husband, spoiled pup and their two sons, Kolton and Konnor.
