Plac Lab is a tam of profssionals from th divrs filds of law, urban planning, architctur, dsign, social work, arts administration and gndr and cultural studis. Th tam works to documnt and dmonstrat urban thical rdvlopmnt stratgis initiatd through arts and cultur. Plac Lab is th structural ngin that supports ths fforts through programmatic activation, capturing mthods and sharing its procss with othr citis. pac Fund NFP will act as th ovrarching civic asst managr during th construction and activation procss. pac Fund NFP will also own all of th assts in th CAIC ntwork xcpt th tony Island Arts Bank and th assts comprising Garfild Park Industrial Arts. 17 Asst 1: tony Island Arts Bank Built in 1923, th tony Island Arts Bank, locatd at 6760 outh tony Island Avnu, is rgistrd with th National Trust for Historic Prsrvation and, until its closur in 1978, had bn a vibrant community landmark. Throughout its history it suffrd long priods of dormancy and by 2012, th monumntal granit and trra cotta building was in svr disrpair and targtd for dmolition by th City of Chicago. To sav from dmolition, Thastr Gats purchasd th building from th City of Chicago and, to- dat, has put approximatly $5 million into th rnovation of th Bank. Civic Commons funds would allow th spac to b programmd to th scal of th building s magnitud, rflcting th prosprity of th onc thriving Chicago outh hor commrcial and ntrtainmnt district. Th radically rstord building srvs as a spac for nighborhood rsidnts to prsrv, accss, rimagin and shar thir hritag and as a dstination for artists, scholars, curators, and collctors to rsarch and ngag with outh id history. Garfild Park Industrial Arts, pairs 13 rnovatd outdoor stabls built in 1888 with th adjacnt powrhous constructd in Th formr plant was dsignd to hous massiv gnrators that would powr lighting for Garfild and Douglas Parks. It is a larg Flmish Rvival structur that is approximatly 150 ft long and 60 ft wid. Ths buildings ar nstld in th East Garfild Park nighborhood of Chicago.
