4 DISPARATE We see the artists, their patchwork of colourful instruments and an extravagant mix of unusual elements in the ring. Music, the driving force for each action, starts. It is the launching pad for every act. A sequence of acrobatic, absurd, poetic or violent acts, always surprising, takes us to moments of wit and humour, at times sweet and at times sour. This unique band with its stack of instruments and devices will carry the audience to colourful worlds and changing atmospheres at a dizzying pace. A series of silly ideas and clever stupidities orchestrated by delightfully visual music. In DISPARATE, you will see no great feats nor unbelievable tricks. It is a sum of small details and big blunders where instruments, humans and objects are constantly conversing and fighting. In an instant, we will travel from the Baroque to the Far West, from a delicate manipulation to a visual and resounding earthquake. Until disaster wins... A musicrobatic experience made with circus and music.

5 Starting point The Grec- Festival de Barcelona contacted La Central del Circ because they were looking for an artist or a company able to create a contemporary circus show for the 2014 edition of the festival. The commission went to Karl Stets who, for his part, had in mind the idea of a show that would combine circus and music equally, bringing together his two artistic facets. The project has been brewing for several months in which were found the artistic complicits and supports that allowed the creation of DISPA- RATE.

6 A collective The basis of the show lies in the performers, two artistic musicians and four musical artists. Six passionate crossbreeds willing to mishandle their art for the love of creation. They count on the complicity of a melomaniac lights technician and a kamikaze soundman. Together, they make up the Cacophonic Pictures Orkestar, an orchestra with a strong tendency to the absurdity that fills the stage with visual and resounding images. Circus and music Musical circus or acrobatic concert? We have sought a confluence of the two languages and we would like you to be unable to tell which came first: the music or the action. All DISPARATE s tunes, except one, have been composed during the three and a half month creation process.

12 THE CAST Six artists who share the capacity to stray away from the discipline in which they excel and who are supported by a sensitive lighting design, a brave sound technician and the collaboration of a tamer of all sorts of beasts. Karl Stets Tuba, trumpet, manipulation, one-man-orchestra. A Denmark native, Karl started his career in He worked with, to name a few, the company Cirkus Cirkor in Sweden, as well as with Kitt Jonhson X-act in Denmark. In 2002, he settled in Barcelona where he still lives. He founded then his own company Lice De Luxe with which he travelled Europe. In 2008, he created Cuerdo, his first solo show, which has since then never stopped touring. He worked with Leandre Ribera in the show Rodo (National Circus Award of Catalonia in 2006) and he participated to the creation of Plecs, with Manolo Alcantara, Claudio Inferno and Xabi Eliçagaray. He also played the tuba and the trumpet with the bands Gadjo and Always Drinking Marching Band, and on occasion he takes part in cabarets as a musician.

13 Sasha Agranov Cello, bass, percussion Xabi Eliçagaray Accordion, piano, guitar, banjo, double bass, drums, one-man-orchestra. He was born and raised in the French Basque country, where he studied classical piano at the conservatory. Soon enough, he discovered jazz with a trio. As a teenager he took part in the Théâtre du Rivage, and then left for Paris to study architecture. His studies brought him to Barcelona in 2004 where he encountered the circus world, the city became his home and the circus the object of his studies. He still works as an architect and set designer, among many other things. Since 2004, he has toured most of the year with music, theatre and circus shows, such as Gadjo and Plecs. He also takes part in cabarets as a musician, actor, or as anything else that can be invented to mesmerize an audience. He was born in St-Petersburg in He studied cello with Hilel Zorig at the academy of Tel-Aviv in Israel. From 1999, he studied baroque music for 6 years at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. He played at the Early Music Festival in Brezice and at the San Sebastian Music Festival. Nowadays, he is part of the company Circus Delirium, and of the music groups Selva de Mar and Piccola Orchestra Gagarin. He is the co-founder of the music label Accoustic Delicatessen.

14 Ruth Steinthal Tight wire, tuba, violin She was born in Germany in Passionate for music, theatre and sports, she was already close to the circus world as a child. After having performed in Germany, Hungary and Russia, she moved to France where she studied for 2 years at the Centre des Arts du Cirque Lido in Toulouse. She discovered the universe of puppetry and manipulation with the company Boustrophedon where she has been performing in several shows since In the meantime, she has been developing the creation and improvisation of a clown character with Eric Blouet as a teacher. She gives life to her visions on stage dancing on a wire, oscillating between theatre, clown, circus and music. Jose Luis Redondo Hand stand, eccentric bicycle, clown, manipulation After a diploma in physical education, Jose Luis Redondo switched to circus. He studied different circus techniques such as aerial, hand balancing, acrobatics and clown at the circus School Carampa in Madrid and he deepened his learning at the circus school Criollo of Buenos Aires. He worked for different shows such as productions of Teatro Circo Price in Madrid, El circo de los Horrores or el Circo Sensaciones. He received the Special Audience Award in the 5th international festival of Albacete in 2012 as well as the award granted by the «Spanish Clowns and Circus Artists Cub» in the same festival.

15 Jade Morin Aerial rope, bassoon Born in Chicoutimi, Canada, Jade spent a good part of her younger years playing the bassoon in youth orchestras. After that, she attended the national circus school of Montreal. Since then, she s been travelling around the world in a permanent search for new circus adventures. Going from street theatre to the stage with Cirque Du Soleil, performing on cruise ships, in musicals, operas, with independent companies, on a sailboat and with an African caravan in the desert. She is dedicated to the exploration of aerial movement in all its forms and to sharing her experience with the audience. Iván Tomasevic Vucasovic Lighting design He was born in Chile where he started working as a lights technician in 2002, designing lights for dance, theatre and circus. At the same time, he took performing and music classes. He is currently a lights technician for Karl Stets Cuerdo and for Otradnoie.

16 Jordi Salvadó Isern Sound design After his studies of industrial electronics, robotics and telecommunications, he began working in the field of sound. He has 20 years of experience in various fields: film, recording studios, education, live sound and sound experimentation.
