2 Junior-Harmony and the cheeky Tiger Wind choir for the very young Oboes clarinets bassoons (mini-bassoons) are attractive because the small size, light weight and easy response are so appropriate for children. By Junior-Harmony we mean a wind-ensemble fully equipped with children s instruments, which can be arranged in different combinations as appropriate. For example one could combine a wind choir for the very young (with model K1, C1 and Fg 8) with a wind choir for older children (models K2, C2 and also Fg 5 and Fg 4). And of course these smaller instruments will fit perfectly with their full-size cousins in ensemble combinations of your choice be creative! Wind choir for older children

3 Oboe Our oboes are made from lightweight, hardy maple wood; the bore is lined with ebonite. They are appealing because they respond so easily and can be played with standard reeds. We offer models suitable for every teaching style. Clarinet Our clarinets are also made from lightweight, hardy maple wood; the bore is lined with ebonite. Their attractive sound allows them to blend well in any ensemble. All clarinets, even the smallest, are played using soft standard Bb reeds. Mini-Bassoons We have long experience with mini-bassoons, and this has made it possible for us to offer a new model with ideal playing qualities. Our mini-bassoons are made from mountain maple with an ebonite lining exactly like the full-size bassoon. They are attractive because of the even response and full sound that is possible over the whole range using a relaxed embouchure. The tuning is stable in all registers using standard fingerings (models Fg4 and Fg5). For your health! Our instruments mechanisms are always silver-plated to protect against the rising number of allergies.

4 Oboe model F1 model K1 / Tiger The K1 oboe is pitched in F, with no keys. The fingering is similar to the recorder to make it easier for beginners. It is played with standard soft oboe reeds. The F1 model is an oboe in French conservatoire system with covered toneholes. The mechanic has been reduced to the essentials. Its excellent playing quality in all registers and its very light weight make it the perfect instrument for beginners. model F2 model K2/4 / Tiger The K2/4 oboe is pitched in C with 4 keys (C, Eb, C# top plate, octave key). It has a Viennese bore to help it speak easily. The fingerings are similar to those for recorders or like historical instruments. This instrument is like a classical oboe, and works well for repertoire from the C17/18 and some of the C19. It uses reeds with a longer scrape e.g. Viennese reeds or English horn reeds. The F2 model is a standard but very lightweight conservatoire system oboe, with a simplified mechanism (without bell key) adapted to suit smaller hands. It has semi-automatic octaves. The advantages are an easy response especially in the low register and a sound that blends well. It is played with standard oboe reeds. model F2 A K1 K1 T model K2/2 / Tiger This model is the economic alternative to the K 2/4 model. It is like the K 2/4, but has only 2 keys (C, Eb). This model is like the F2 with fully automatic octaves. model W2 / W2 A The W2 model is a Viennese oboe with a French key system and semi-automatic octaves. The Viennese bore, Viennese reeds and lightweight wood give it a special character. It is particularly well-suited to Romantic music from the C19. The W2A model is like the W2 with fully automatic K2/4 F1 octaves. F2 W2

5 Clarinet model C1 / Tiger The C1 model is a clarinet pitched in C (low register) with 3 keys, developed from the chalumeau in C. The fingering is similar to the recorder to make it easier for beginners. It comes with a special mouthpiece for a shortened Bb reed. model C1 B / Tiger The C1 B model is like the C 1 with approached Boehm fingering model C2 plus / Tiger The C2 plus model clarinet is pitched in C with a German-system mechanism adapted for children. The easy response, full sound and good tuning across the twelfths make it appealing to players. It comes with a Zinner C mouthpiece and uses a standard Bb reed. C1 C1T model C2 B / Tiger The C2 B is like the C2 model with a Boehm system. C2+ C2+T C2B

6 Mini-Bassoons model Fg 4 / Tiger model Fg 4 / Tiger (length: 92.5cm, weight 1.2 kg) The quart bassoon, also known as the tenoroon, survived in limited numbers into the C19, for example in military music. Solo and ensemble repertoire from the C18 exists, and there are also modern compositions (written specially for our instruments). It is pitched a fourth higher than the standard bassoon. It works very well for teaching primary age children, and also for normal wind ensembles when it is played with no transposition from a treble clef Bb part. When played from a bass clef part (transposed) it uses normal bassoon fingerings. model Fg 4 plus / Tiger with complete whisper mechanism. model Fg 5 / Tiger model Fg 5 / Tiger (length: 84.5cm, weight 0.95 kg) The quint bassoon (mini-bassoon) has its origins in the tenor curtal (dulcian). It is pitched a fifth higher than the standard bassoon. It works very well for teaching primary age children at music schools. Treble clef parts in C can be played untransposed. For this reason it is well suited to take the middle parts in any kind of ensemble. It uses standard modern bassoon fingerings for bass clef parts (transposed) and tenor clef parts can be read untransposed as bass clef parts. model Fg 5 plus / Tiger with complete whisper mechanism. 7 model Fg 8 / Tiger model Fg 8 / Tiger (length: 63cm, weight 0.35 kg) The octave bassoon is the smallest of our bassoons; it is supplied in a simple version with only 5 keys. It is pitched an octave higher than the standard bassoon. The fingerings are similar to those for recorders or like historical bassoons. It is well suited as a bass line instrument with a recorder ensemble with a range down to low Bb. model Fg 8 plus / Tiger The Fg 8 model is available in an advanced version as the Fg 8 plus model with 9 keys (additional keys: octave key, C#, Bb, F#). The fingerings are closer to those of the modern bassoon. Fg8T Our mini-bassoons can be used in many different circumstances: as alto or tenor instruments in ensembles as a new timbre in wind music as bass line for recorder ensembles as solo instrument for historical and modern repertoire as a musical special effect both optical and acoustical and of course as a children s instrument for primary age teaching (the youngest mini-bassoon student we know was 3½ years old). 8 Your country needs you musicians! Our concern has always been to familiarise young children as early as possible with reed instruments, the oboe, clarinet and bassoon. Because there were no other examples to follow, we started to develop instruments ourselves that are appropriate in all respects to the needs of small children. As well as being easy to play, it is important that they reflect the latest developments in medical knowledge and research. Why is this of importance? because we need a rising generation of woodwind players especially to help sustain amateur orchestras and ensembles, and because children up to the age of years old absorb things quickly and retain what they learn so much better.
