The eight piece band features rap vocals out of Gil Scott Heron s book, laid back pyschedelia, turntablists, heavy funk beats, and a punchy, soulful horn section. One of the hottest club bands in the country. 10PM-MIDNIGHT RAMSAY HALL, Venue 4, 8, ( 6 conc) Anders Bergcrantz Quartet * Bergcrantz is a trumpeting phenomenon. He s got the fire and passion of Dizzy Gillespie, the chops of Freddie Hubbard, and the subtlety of Miles. He s one of the few European musicians who have cracked the New York establishment, playing bebop and beyond. He is joined by Paul Harrison (p), Aidan O Donnell (b), Alyn Cosker (d) PM BRUICHLADDICH HALL, Venue 2, 8 ( 6 conc) 4 Haftor Medbøe Mini Group High energy approach from guitarist Medbøe, trombonist Greive and a host of electronics. 3 Information: Weekender Ticket: Moishe s Bagel * Ken Peplowski Quartet * American swing/bop star saxophonist makes his Islay debut, He can play scorching clarinet like a modern Benny Goodman, sail languorously across romantic ballads like he s the son of Lester Young, and command the tenor as though Stan Getz just passed him the horn. With Brian Kellock (p), Ronnie Rae (b), Alyn Cosker (d) PM PORTNAHAVEN HALL, Venue 5, 7 plus the legendary home baking One of the most moving musical experiences of my life... the audience were completely blown away by the performance (Round And About Mull). Rip-roaring, toe-tapping jazz influenced klezmer and Balkan music from some of Scotland s finest musicians: Greg Lawson (fiddle), Pete Garnet (accordion), Phil Alexander (p), Mario Caribe (b), Guy Nicholson (perc). The bright young star of the Scottish jazz scene plays alto sax with power, intellect and aplomb. She s also writing very sophisticated and appealing music. First time in Islay! 1-3PM WHITE HART HOTEL, Venue 6, 5 light lunches available 9 11 Haftor Medbøe Mini Group 10 Ken Peplowski plays Monk featuring Anders Bergcrantz * Scottish Jazz All Stars Following in the footsteps of the great Scottish traditional jazz groups of the 50 s and 60 s like the Clyde Valley Stompers and The Clansman, Forrie Cairns and Fionna Duncan, both ex-members of those groups front an amazing assemblage of classic jazz talent playing New Orleans and traditional jazz PM BRUICHLADDICH HALL, Venue 2, 10 ( 8 conc) The American reedsman and the Swedish trumpeter celebrate the music of one of the great jazz originals: Thelonious Monk. He s a top arranger with a deep knowledge of jazz tradition, and he ll have a terrific line-up of Scottish jazz talent: Ryan Quigley (t), Konrad Wiszniewski (ts), tbc (p), Aidan O Donnell (b). NOON-2 RSPB CENTRE, Venue 9, 7 - light lunches available am bird watching walk from RSPB Centre Ken Peplowski & Brian Kellock * Sparks will fly in this sparring partnership as Kellock and Peplowski challenge each other on old song tunes, humourous asides, and international class improvising. 12:30-2:30PM ARDBEG DISTILLERY, Venue 10, 7 lunch menu available 16 Sheena Swanson * Islay s amazing songstress covers the range from belting blues to lyrical ballads. Her distinctive, husky vocals are delivered with self-deprecating humour. She is joined by Paul Harrison (p), Mario Caribe (b), Brian Palmer (d). 3-5PM IONAD CHALIUM CHILLE ILE (COLUMBA CENTRE), Venue 3, 8, ( 6 conc) Anders Bergcrantz / Konrad Wiszniewski Quintet * This is a strutting, grooving, swinging band of New York style 60 s jazz updated. Imagine Miles, Hancock, Rollins with a big swinging rhythm section. Venues We use all sorts of venues on Islay. There are generally no foyers and limited facilities some venues are even private homes but all have masses of character. Doors will open approximately 15 minutes before the concert stars and generally, there is nowhere to wait apart from outside let s hope for good weather! 18 Laura Macdonald s Haste Ye Back with special guest, Ken Peplowski * A star-studded, final night concert led by the inimitable Laura Macdonald. Expect strong solos, surprises and a large helping of fun.
