1 XAVIER SERRA CV Xavier Serra is Fu Professor of the Department of Information and Communication Technoogies and Director of the Music Technoogy Group at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barceona. After a mutidiscipinary academic education, he obtained a PhD in Computer Music from Stanford University in 1989 with a dissertation on the spectra processing of musica sounds that is considered a key reference in the fied. His research interests cover the computationa anaysis, description and synthesis of sound and music signas, with a baance between basic and appied research and approaches from both scientific/technoogica and humanistic/artistic discipines. Dr. Serra is very active in fieds of Audio Signa Processing, Sound and Music Computing, Music Information Retrieva and Computation Musicoogy at the oca and internationa eves, being invoved in the editoria board of a number of journas and conferences and giving ectures on current and future chaenges of these fieds. He was awarded an Advanced Grant of the European Research Counci to carry out the project CompMusic aimed at promoting muticutura approaches in music information research.
