5 Born in Heilongjiang, China, in 1978, Chen Lin received her first piano lesson when she was five years old. At the age of 13, she won the grand prix of the young children category in the second Heilongjang Youth Piano Competition. In 1993, when she was 15, she was admitted to the Junior High School of the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing, and started studying composition. In 1996, she entered the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing, where she studied conducting under Yu Feng. Lin was a finalist of the Besancon International Conductors Competition, France, in 1999, 2001, and With the recommendation of Seiji Ozawa, she has appeared in the Tanglewood Festival every year since 2000, where she was appointed fellowship conductor of the festival in Since 2003, Lin has been participating in Seiji Ozawa Ongaku-juku, where she has been an associate conductor for opera performances of Die Fledermaus, La bohème, and Il barbiere di Siviglia. In 2004, Lin was appointed professor at the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing, immediately following her graduation from the school as a master of conducting. In the following year, she was appointed assistant field service professor of ensembles and conducting at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), and music director of the CCM Concert Orchestra. Also, she was invited to the Osaka Art Festival, at the recommendation of Seiji Ozawa, and made her successful debut in Japan conducting the Osaka Century Symphony Orchestra. In 2006, she appeared in the Saito Kinen Festival in Japan and conducted the Opera for Young People and Children s Concert. Lin has conducted the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Harbin Symphony Orchestra, Anhui Symphony Orchestra, Hebei Symphony Orchestra, Tanglewood Festival Orchestra, Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Philharmonic Orchestra, Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Concert Orchestra, Seiji Ozawa Ongakujuku Orchestra, and Century Orchestra Osaka. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1985, Yuen-Suo Yang started his early musical training with Wei-Te Sung, Yi-Ting Chi, and his father, at the age of eight. During his high school years, Yang was a member of the Taipei Youth Symphonic Band. Later he was appointed principal clarinetist of the Yung-Ho Youth Concert Band/Orchestra under conductor Cheng-Hsien Kao. Yang was also the founder and student conductor of the Wan-Fang Senior High School Concert Band. His positions in the ensembles included bass clarinet, first trumpet, and solo euphonium. In March, 2003, he won first prize at the National Taiwan Clarinet Competition, and he was the winner of IU Jacobs School of Music Woodwind Concerto Competition in February Yang has also won various awards in the fields of fine arts, acting, and sports. A student of Howard Klug, Yang is currently pursuing his BM in Clarinet at the IU Jacobs School of Music.
